I mean, the reality is just letting Simon go won't be enough.

But hopefully a new guy can revitalise our list and stops playing favourites. Add to that being ruthless and really shaking up the list for next season with some key trades.

favourites like Melksham T Mac Fritsch etc who have all been dropped?

Maybe our list isnโ€™t that good?

but yeah i think itโ€™s close to time for a change. Just donโ€™t assume change means getting better. it often has the opposite result

ย

Bring Petty in and drop Fritsch. There's no way Petty's ground level stuff is worse than Fritsch leaving us look too tall. North play with 3 tall defenders so it'd be a good time to try 3 talls up forward.

Dropping Jeffo after 1 game will do nothing for him.

ย
  • Let's not drop Jeffo. We have to give him a run of games together to see if he shows anything and it's only now when the season is shot that we have that chance.

  • And if we get the chance to give Adams and Sestan a game or two before before season's end then we should.

  • Fritta's best game this year was when he came on as a sub. That's where I'd put him.

  • If Tommy Mac is not going to get another contract then keep him at Casey until the Magpies game so he can have a farewell. We need to get games into other defenders.

In: Petty, Laurie, Windsor

Out: Fristch, Sharp, Tholstrup

Leave two key forwards on the ground at all times please. Keep Jeffo in the team for now until Luker forces our hand at selection.

Not sure Windsor has really earned the recall but I'd rather him as a sub than Sharp.

Now or never for Laurie. Pretty sure Simon has him in the never basket though. Realistically Spargo will be at the front of the selection committees thoughts.

Nth could start favourites let that sink in.

Northโ€™s odds are $4.20!!? Surely thatโ€™s a mistake? Am i missing something?

Nope

Fair assessment... ought to come into about 3.50 by the game.

But that's an on-paper thinking , by the numbers as it were.

More holistically.... unless we lock down our defence better and sew up the holes and if we are incapable of taking full benefit of our opportunities ( i know who am I kidding ) then in truth this is a very 50-50 game.

We can both be as useless as each other.

A difference... Clarko is a much better day/game coach and they might smell blood.

You canโ€™t not.

We only got 28K to the North game last year when we were outside the eight on percentage. We could struggle to get 20K this week unless North supporters decide to come out in force, particularly with a forecast top of 13.

Given that we fell over the line last year by 3 points when North were last on the ladder, and we were flogged in round 2 this year, this could be another tough watch.

Why do you care? You lost interest in 2025 remember.

i want to see game time for youngsters and lesser lights

bill laurie deserves a run

keep jeffo in the team for at least the next 3 games

Dunno... we know what Jeffo can ( or can't do )

Try Kentfield. See if he's competitive at AFL level.

Got to start evaluating the list in real conditions... just mo

Fully expecting an underdone Spargo coming off an injury recall over someone like Laurie.

I wouldn't be against seeing Kentfield get a run on the seniors but Jeffo needs more time to find his feet.

i'm far from convinced by jeffo but lets give him a block of games to see if he can figure out AFL.

in terms of Kentfield, why not, nothing to lose at this stage. the season is done so blooding these types of players should be the priority

I fell off my chair when I saw those odds. North have been given a 27 point head start.

Sure we may very well win as we'll enjoy being back at the G, but surely North should be no more than $2.20. They're only half a game behind us.

Reckon you could be right about Spargypants.

On the surface Jeffo looks like he should go OK... but he's all at sea out there. Never really makes me feel he's suited to the big game. Just nqr for the 1sts ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿฅด

Cold weather, haven't played in Melbourne for a month - momentum all gone, 5 losses on the trot.
I'll be there though

I think dropping Jeffo now would cause more mental harm than allowing him to hold his place in the team.

Letโ€™s temper the excitement on Kentfield for a bit. He played well yesterday but it was only the first time heโ€™d had over 10 possessions in a Casey game. He could well be a beauty but I think he needs more Casey time.

Fritsch needs to go unfortunately, but if you are not willing to go to the action and contest, then there is no place in this team for you. If fit, Petty straight back in as replacement.

Sharp needs to go and Howes needs to come back in if fit.

I think Salem is not doing enough and is too loose. He is nowhere near the player he was. But he will keep till Sestan makes a successful return from injury. Iโ€™ve been pushing his barrow for a while now and I believe heโ€™ll make that quarterback role his own once he settles in.

Develop the young and make the established players earn their right to be in this team. Thatโ€™s my motto for the rest of this horrid season.

Gotta keep Jefferson in the team.

100% agree. The only way he will learn is continuing to play in the AFL.

Eric Hipwood is a good exactly of that. He had a lot of stinkers in the AFL (still does), but the Lions persisted with him and kept getting games into him.

We need to do the same. Personally I'd like to see Fritsch dropped and play Petty, JVR and Jeffo this week. Means we can always have 2 key forwards in the F50.

I have serious doubts over Jefferson but none of us can be 100% sure if heโ€™ll make it until we see him get multiple consecutive weeks to have a go at it.

The same principle applies to Laurie - Iโ€™d rather see him in the side than Sharp, who is contributing next to nothing.

I fully expect to see Petty and Spargo replace Jeffo and Tholstrup, though.

I agree on Jefferson.

When JVR was in the ruck, Jefferson esentially became the bailout target. That's a very difficult role for any 21 year old and basically impossible for a bloke who, if he makes it, will surely be a second or third tall forward. I'd give him games, too, and I'd do anything I could to make sure he's the third banana.

Laurie is built like a forward pocket, but without much speed I wonder if he's a small-midfielder-or-bust type. I'd love to see him get three or for full games (not the sub), but play at least some time in the middle. I just don't see that happening in a system that constantly goes back to Oliver, Viney, Petracca and (rightly) Pickett.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
