The club really needs to make some sort of statement on the umpiring.

Our coaches are unable to coach technique and skill when our players are frustrated by inconsistent umpiring decisions.

I believe the goal kicking is a result of the lack of confidence in their ability caused by the lack of confidence created by inconsistent application of rules by umpoires.

Of course we could also practice kicking the football and not he round soccer ball in training. The bounce of the oval shaped ball is also an unknown to our players who fumble and drop the ball. maybe cos its not round. Get rid of the soccer ball and train with AFL footballs

God so much need to vent

Another season wasted when we have uch a good list of playing stock

Coached bear responsible.

Blaming the umps because professional footy players can't kick a 25m goal directly in front, that's a new one.

At the risk of offending Werridee, here is a team i'd like to see that takes Tracc, Oliver and Viney out of our mids for the main - although occasional spurts through the middle would be ok - as long as its only one of them at a time.

B. McVee May Lever

HB. Rivers Petty Sestan

Mid. Windsor Langford Langdon

HF. Tracc Turner Chandler

F. Viney Jeffo JVR

R. Max Bowie Kossie

Bench. Oliver, Fritsch, Lindsay, Laurie - Salem.

Any of them in Byron? Very happy to head over with a Premiership Sherrin for some practice. Threading them through the hoop pines at the Beach Hotel

Not that I know of, Super. Plenty on the Gold Coast. Noosa is also popular.

They’ll know they’re alive when they’re back in Melb for training on Sunday morning, a sunny and warm 6 degrees to welcome them back 😅

Jefferson, McDonald, Verall, Laurie Thorstrup.

Our Petty, May, Salem, Rivers, Chandler

Finally at least someone agrees with me about Chandler - [censored] irrelevant player.

Rivers is the one there you’ve been unfair on - he is constantly being thrown around and doesn’t have consistency - goodwins fault (for playing Viney last week)

Agree in Rivers. I thought more as a one week thing to freshen him up.

Since the Brisbane game we’ve generated 26 scoring shots (including rushes) per game which is more than what Collingwood are managing on the season. I’d love to know what would happen if we kick a scoreline of 14.12.96 against GC. I’d suggest we’re winning that game.

Last year the bye rejuvenated us as we went 3-1 the next month and the loss was a terrific performance against Brisbane at the GABBA. Hopefully we see a similar effect this year.

I want there to be serious conversations about our mix in the midfield because right now it is definitely not balanced with bulls and finesse. Viney's time attending bounces should be halved, and he should be played more as a pressure forward/tagger than a midfielder. Trac and Oliver can attend bounces together but only when we have the likes of Langford, Lindsay, and Koz around them to be the designated kickers inside. They also need to be told, "if you can't spot a direct pass, look for a lateral kick".

Oh and the way we used Rivers last week set him backwards in development, play him as a midfielder.

We should be doing everything we can to avoid seeing Viney, Trac, and Oliver in the centre at the same time.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
