I'm not sure the changes make our team better.

Instead of naming Sharp on field... why not Windsor take his role?

Instead of dropping JVR for Tholstrup... why not keep two talls in the forward line in Jefferson and JVR?

Bye bye Lever, don't come back. Windsor is down on form and confidence, mostly because he has been played out of position all year. Hopefully a run at Casey does him some good.

Goodwin needs to make his mind up re Van Rooyen - either play him in the AFL or play him in the VFL for a month. This back and forth business is ridiculous, and does nobody any good.

As for the inclusions, we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. How do Sharp and Tholstrup possibly deserve a recall before Brown or Culley get a chance?

driving up a few hours to the game and looking forward to a kick on the people's first after a few beers and (hopefully) some straight kicking by the dees.. went up last year and it was a great win (Disco and Kolt both played great).

Where you coming from? We’re coming from northern rivers. Looking fwd to taking my 10 yo to his first game - on the boundary - kick on the ground after, Maccas on way home, I might load the 2021 GF onto a usb and play it on the BYD screen on the way up!🤣

No, it's just that selection is based on criteria that none of us are privy to. Just because you don't agree with it or don't understand it, it doesn't mean that these aren't considered choices, and it's relatively easy to come up with arguments as to why the selections are what they are.

e.g. Tom is old and on his way out, better to play younger players. You may not agree with that, but it's a valid argument.

FWIW, I'd love to see Tom in the team. But I'd rather see Turner, and at the end of the day how many big tall blokes do you really need, it's not as if GC have three gorilla forwards?

Not sold on the changes. Not sure what Sharp brings, Tholstrup has no form, Jefferson is vanilla but the cheap type.

I’d of kept JVR, dropped Viney and Lever and bought in Jefferson and Laurie, who surely deserves a run. Melksham as sub.

If May gets flogged then it’s Adam’s time.

I am not a big fan of H. Petty but the decision to drop JVR is way too late. He has become a liability and shows no forward skill at all. Hopefully he will not be recalled.

I would also have dropped Viney - he is out of his depth now and has become a liability.

Lever is overrated these days and it is good to see him out.

We will now get to see what MJ can do and it is not before time.

Yeah well where to start???

My son was over the other day and we spoke about the Dees, now here is my Imprimatur, my son is a very learned man and better than me at at Footy analysis I won't go into details but he said several things

May to Full Forward and play Jeffo alongside, Petty goes BACK FOR GOOD!

Windsor BACK TO THE WING!

JVR hnmm Jury is out but kicked 2 and then Rucked ??

Petty backline or bust... Not a Forwards Bootlace

ANYWAY my 2 cents worth...

JVR..For Caaaaaryst sake Goody u are Killing him! Still kicked 2 !

Petty,: ???????? Plays defence or not at all

Windsor: Goody u have killed him playing HB

Salem: Lucky to be still getting a game!

Viney: Better have a Blinder!

T. Mac Surely better than some?

But well done Jeffo, Deserved a game so hope he does well!!

Who plays ruck when Gawn rests?

Indeed.

JVR is being crucified by the match committee - in, out, in.

No thought of planning for the future. Wouldn’t blame him if he asked for a trade back to WA.

Now is the time to bring in new players. Finals are done

Play Viney forward, Petty Back

Why bring in Laurie, we know what he will provide

Used the bye week to get a break from Demonland and glad I’ve come back to the same stupendous content I’ve missed so much.

In the past hour we’ve hit all the highlights of the weekly selection takes, including:

-these selections are bad because we aren’t playing enough of the young players, even though we’re playing a bunch of young players

-these selections are bad because we’re not playing an older player in a position where we have promising young players

-these selections are bad because they don’t put us in a position to win rn even though we’re out of finals contention

-these selections are bad because they don’t do enough to set us up to win next year

-the vice captain, who had a bad game after a month off, should be dropped

-the coach, who apparently has the only say in who plays any given week, has made these selections because they’re his pals

Demonland is a really good microcosm of why it’s so difficult to run a functional democracy.

Question remains... Who gives MAX a chop out??? Surely Petty??

Baffling .. Jvr is the whipping boy yet the guilty mids etc who bomb away & butcher the ball going fwd are not dropped! Maybe if Jvr was left in the fwd line & not played ruck he may develop! Winsor was on fire on the wing in 24 go figure , Lever was never ready.. Goodwin has destroyed the team!

I can't see the method in these changes.

It brings back memories of revolving interchange players but worse.

I very much hope Windsor and Lever don't play VFL. They both need a re-set

Tholstrup and Sharp... good luck

Jefferson...??

It's not so much the changes but the lack of method and planning

Dropping Windsor and JVR was not on my bingo card this season. Prior to Langford and X those two were my long term hopes. My emotional re-build has been set back years.

I agree with much of this, especially now that the season is done. Let’s do some experimenting.

May goes forward to provide someone who can use his body to get the advantage and take a grab and I believe he can kick straight at goal. And could going forward extend May’s career for a season or two? Petty back or bring TMac back in as a KPB (and back up ruck). He was in good form then dropped for what reason?

Yes Windsor to the wing, move Langford to the midfield, Viney to play as a defensive forward. Fingers crossed that Jeffo clicks up forward and we can run with Jeffo, May, Fritsch as targets, Viney, Chandler, Pickett at ground level.

Of course no matter who you have up forward is irrelevant if the ball movement stays predictable with long bombs to the same spot. Rule 1 - Oliver to handball at all costs, not kick. Rule 2 Max to handball at all costs when forward of centre, especially if he is within goal kicking distance.

Tracc, at a loss, any suggestions?

Test run JVR as a KPB at Casey for a few games. Give Seston a run at it when he is back fit and has played a few at Casey.

Loved all the selections until I saw Sharps name..

Good lord......

I was reading the Training thread and Kevin Martin mentioned that Windsor hurt his foot during one of the training drills, so that may explain why he isn’t playing. The Casey team will tell the story.

If we somehow get up and win, there will be some red faces on this thread.

They won’t be embarrassed. They’ll be angry and disappointed because a win will temporarily pause the sch!tt-slinging party they’re currently enjoying. Then what will they have to make them feel better about themselves?! A bunch of personal shortcomings doesn’t just go away, y’ know.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
