Since the Brisbane game we’ve generated 26 scoring shots (including rushes) per game which is more than what Collingwood are managing on the season. I’d love to know what would happen if we kick a scoreline of 14.12.96 against GC. I’d suggest we’re winning that game.

Last year the bye rejuvenated us as we went 3-1 the next month and the loss was a terrific performance against Brisbane at the GABBA. Hopefully we see a similar effect this year.

I want there to be serious conversations about our mix in the midfield because right now it is definitely not balanced with bulls and finesse. Viney's time attending bounces should be halved, and he should be played more as a pressure forward/tagger than a midfielder. Trac and Oliver can attend bounces together but only when we have the likes of Langford, Lindsay, and Koz around them to be the designated kickers inside. They also need to be told, "if you can't spot a direct pass, look for a lateral kick".

Oh and the way we used Rivers last week set him backwards in development, play him as a midfielder.

We should be doing everything we can to avoid seeing Viney, Trac, and Oliver in the centre at the same time.

Windsor,Langford and Langdon ........ good idea as midfielder.

Would like to see Sestan defence and perhaps give Howes a go forward.

It does not matter if people think the players in the reserves are not up to playing seniors , the club needs to send a message to senior players that they will get dropped. Surely having 9 loses you would expect something major to happen. If the young reserve players are not up to senior level after 14 rounds there is something dramatically wrong with the way we coach and train players. Mind you the reserve comp is a joke , why do the MFC put up with it.

With our list I really thought we would make eight!!! Bloody disappointed If only GWS win Pies win Hawthorn win (which we had a real chance) things would be so different Bummer !!

This is the most obvious move that should be made. As George states in the pod each week, JVR barely plays 40% game time up fwd. If we had a genuine 2nd ruck option, he might have a chance!

It's always fun to head into a game against an opponent who was a surprise loser the week prior.

They'll be primed to avenge that loss, especially at home.

Our Football Brains Trust ( i-don't) will have its work cut out. Our kicking essentially a 50/50 [censored] shoot at goal v Suns 60% on target. Ranked 4th.

So for mine, though it sounds ridiculously simplistic , and given much of our game WON'T/Can't change we have but two areas we CAN hopefully direct the outcome.

1) kick goals. I know , how has this Einsteinian element escaped use before now . Maybe because we haven't left anyone there long enough who might have this craft as key. Im no particular fan of JVR but if he's selected then ffs play him as a forward, not a wandering minstrel. Whoever lines up, leave them there and find the solution to the other problem ( ruck-relief ) elsewhere and otherwise.

2) stop them kicking goals. I know, clever huh. This is actually part of a two-fer special deal find . A bargain at the Albert-mart 😉 Tighten up the backend, not have a mare of a day letting off a leash some wally to kick 7 goals.. just sayin' 🙄

There are other things but they could fall under the realm of swings and roundabouts...i.e.. might be countered and the result not a lot different. So for now just 2 things.. More goals than points and cut down opponents shots on goal.

All jokes aside to win that's what you do.

Why do we lose ? Because we don't do it.

A lot of things you can't change , not wholesale. Some you can. Finding some stability and functionality up front is key. This is exactly what the Suns will be attempting also as at there last 3 outings they've suffered from the Demonics... the act of kicking more points than goals !! We just need to do it better.

Apparently we get it in the arc OK ( though arguably not in best parts of it...but.. ) Even if we can muster a 50/50 hit rate we will win.

So.... in summary. Stop stuffing around with forward setup and personell. Let it play out the game. And it's the two BIG sticks 😉 !!

Given where our season is at I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Taking my 10yo to his first game. On the boundary! Got some local friends also ex Viccos sitting behind us. Apprehensive about the game but pumped for a kick on the ground after.

And of course we’ve had stellar June weather in the northern rivers only for it to rain Saturday.

I think we'll have to kick at least forty behinds this week to get close to the Suns. Until we start converting some of our out on the full kicks into points and our banana attempts from 15 metres out start making the distance I can't see it happening.

I've always scoffed at suggestions of putting May forward. Why would you put a generational key backman in the forward line?

However, right now, I'm here for it. After getting his pants pulled down by Mitch Georgiades (feels weird even typing that), he is now leading the reverse Coleman for the year. We have good key defensive stocks in Turner, Lever, Petty, McDonald. Our key forwards are lacking at this stage. He would compete in the air, and make intercept defenders very nervous. Is it not worth a try?

If correct, that would be some effort given that he has missed three games. As I've said previously, May and Lever (5 losses from 6 games) should not be playing in the same side under any circumstances.

This thread has got very loose. Not long before someone earnestly suggests dropping 12 to 15 players, resuscitating the supplementary list and bringing in 17 and 35 year old from the ammos and Division 3 suburban leagues.

Here's my attempt to make it looser still:

The two players I'm keenest to see get a game as we limp to the end of the year are Brown and Sestan.

Sounds like Sestan's hamstrings will make that unlikely, which is a real pity. Interesting to see whether they keep him on for another season. In the few games I've seen him play at Casey his kicking looks really strong.

Brown looks like someone who just goes and goes and goes. Far better judges than me say his disposal is well below "the level" (as Goodwin would say), but three or four players who sit in this category are first-picked for our AFL side. If we can forgive them, can we forgive one more and just see how his intensity looks at the top level?

Not averse to Jefferson getting a good AFL run, either, but I just don't think he'll come into his own until we sort out who our number one forward is - the bloke who refuses to get pushed aside by his opponent and even takes a couple of contested marks a game.

My tip, 7.13. Loss in the 30’s. Hopeful I’ll be proven wrong but I’ve lost hope.
