Fakois got 5 frees for out of 29. There’s no equality in umpiring these days. He can’t be breathed on.

Anyone else see him step over the mark which should have been 50 and not called?

I’ve seen toddlers take bigger hits at the playground and cry less than Nicky.

Goes down as easily as an OF star.

Hats off to Langdon for showing that Faicos crumbles under pressure, even with lots of soft frees.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but did Howes shadow Bobby Hill? If so, he deserves applause too 👏👏👏

Do you want odds on the MRO looking at Daicos dropping his knees into Langdon’s chest, when Ed was flat on his back on the ground?

I thought it was disgusting and if it was Kozzie it would be 2-3 weeks.

You won’t hear it even mentioned.

Moore also slid both of his knees into Melksham I think in the first quarter when Jale took a mark. Nuffin.

What was the free kick count in the end?

As with most on here I also was pleased with the effort. Fantastic stuff but boy oh boy do we have a few Jim Carrey's out there on the field. Dumb and Dumber was the order of the day. Same old culprits it is sad to say, and you all know them. Yes, umpires didn't help but to get up there with the big clubs we have to play smarter footy and win these games then the AFL, media and umpires will show some respect, and we will win the 50/50 calls.

Also, it seems to me that the young kids are starting to show signs of tiredness and are lacking zip. Maybe one or two of them need a rest.

One thing that stands out since 2021 is we cannot win close games. We seem to panic and cannot close out games

@Gorgoroth pretty much summed it up all well in one post.

My positives: Young players in Bowey, Langford, Howes, Tholstrup, McVee, Turner all showing a bit.

I think with Howes and Tholstrup, you just leave them in for the rest of the year. Get as much game time into them as possible. I started celebrating Koltyns set shot in the last because it was gun barrel straight, only to then fall shot.

Between Howes and McVee, they both Completely shut Hill down for the game.

I actually thought Lindsay was still to be subbed? BTW he has all the traits to be our Sidebottom in years to come. Hes definitely composed and clean with the footy.

Turner is officially in our best 22 line up.

What do we do moving forward with our veterans in the midfield? JV, Petracca and Clarry.

I think the way the game is going we need better users of the ball there. None of those 3 are unfortunately.

Now with the likes of XL, Langford, McVee in our best 22. Can we realistically keep the 3 before mentioned for the long term?

I watched Fritsch in isolation. For a good chunk of the game.

  1. He gets lost in our zone. Stands in no mans land defending absolutely nothing.

  2. Applies next no no pressure unless the camera is on him.

  3. His opponents show him no respect because he is not punishing them.

A ruthless club would move him on and build a forward line around genuine competitors that take their chances and want to be involved in the game.

I think your first point is him zoning as part of given directive.

The second two points are spot on. He tackles like a shirt on the clothes line on a windy day

I thought Langford made some uncharacteristic mistakes early on. Looked a bit overawed by the occasion. But he worked his way into the game.

It’s an enormous responsibility that we have given both him and Lindsay in playing the wings. It’s a big ask, especially in big games. And it’s going to reap the rewards down the line, but it does come with risks.

Sidebottom had a monster game, because he’s got 5000 more years on those two. But imagine what Langford learnt today playing on one of the best wingers in the game.

The sooner we get more of the footy in the hands of these two, along with Bowey, Howes, Turner, Chin and Windsor, the better. They are all very good ball users with a lot of composure, and unfortunately that’s something we lack in our very best players right now.

Gawn, Trac and Oliver are some of the best players in the league at winning the footy. In fact, we smashed them in clearances and contested possessions, and that’s why we were able to stay in the contest. But unfortunately these guys are also not great ball users, and their lack of skills can really hurt you in a really tight game where every mistake matters.

Couple that with Pies missing like one set shot to our 10 or so, and that’s the game.

So why didn't the coaches do something about it that's the problem right there.

Been saying that since 22 but some posters don't agree with that analogy....

Who knew Langdon had it in him to be so annoying 😂 He’s usually so chill & was really giving it to stumpy legs both on and off the ball

I know people aren't sold on AJ but he would have crashed those packs & bought the ball down to ground today & probably would have been a bit stronger to go with Cameron or mcstay

If the concussion symptoms continue the Viney decision might be made for us

Both he and McVee was on him,McVee was on Daicos when Daicos went forward

Ed was having an easy day with only 87% TOG tagging sooky lala.

He is probably cycling all over Melbourne to burn off all that extra energy.

May played a ripper of a game, but he has form with sort of behavior.

Gawn on the other hand has been reminded time and time again to be aware of his limitations with his kicking, yet decides to do a torp and inevitable turns it over

I'm sort of in both camps here, but May needs to say this at the team review. Not out on the field

Before the game Max was hitting torps from the 50 and badly miskicking all of them. He should've been practicing his set shots from 20m out instead of practicing torps in the wet.

Chandler could play more through the middle. He's gone up a level this year.

We need to change our 6 6 6 set up forward of the ball. The amount of times Kosi or Trac or Oliver break free from a centre clearances and doesnt hit up (or even try) to hit up a leading target is on the coaches. What's the point of getting it out the front if you're going to bomb it anyway?? We're going to win 4 or 5 of these a games, have a plan. Have we had even one leading mark in 2 weeks with 100 forward 50 entries. Can barely think of one. Its appalling

49 minutes ago, At the break of Gawn said:

Of the game itself, I thought we were far better with contest and clearance, but as expected, Collingwood's defence was just too good and our forward entries not dangerous enough.

I'm a firm believer that we're never going to have the wood over Collingwood until both Pendles and Sidebottom retire.

Their on-field leadership and footy IQ is too far above ours.

Instead of bombing it inside 50 we should hit low flat kicks in or grubbers, limits their ability to intercept mark and gives our small/pressure forwards a chance.

Turner is on our list. . Switch him and Petty or JVR for 2 months. I dont care if he's dominating down back. So would any gun forward. The kid can play, has dash and takes the game on. Also he can take a hanger. Right now we need a 14 disposal 6 mark 3 goal game way more than we need 8 intercepts in the backline. Tmac is an AFL level backman and him sitting watching is a total waste of resource.

Exactly, no point having the best defence if you can't score.

Brown should shut his mouth. McCreery is very very fast and Kosi was chasing him for 40 goddamn meters!

Kosi was completely correct to expect a free for him running too far.

Just as in the last Pies were paid marks that travelled at best 10m.

In a game decided by a bloody point, a side having nearly 30% more free kicks is diabolical.

No he shouldn’t, you continue the chase until your opponent is out of the play or the umpire blows the whistle it’s one of the many moments which the FD will show the players in the review.

And the review will have no moments of umpires decisions nor should it. In a 1 point game we cost ourselves that game with a lack of composure in pressure moments.

FD got so many match ups right, boys played their hearts out but will rue moments where they didn’t control what they can control and it cost them

Glad we dropped Spargo.

We didn't drop Spargo, he's got a fractured shoulder blade.

His kicking inside 50 might have been useful today.

We lost when we failed to convert this set shots and some stupid mistakes in front of goal.

But how many goals did the pies get from some iffy free kicks and 50's!!

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
