I started to get nervous when Essendon’s VFL side almost beat the Lions at the Gabba. Sydney nearly lost by 100 on their home deck last night, and the Hawks are really ordinary (we lost). Form line not as good as it suggests, we’ve improved, but still pretty ordinary

This is the exact reason we can't pull crowds to games.
The same reason Melbourne supporters who do show up are reserved early game.
You just cannot trust them.

A win today and there would've been 70-80k next weekend.
Now I'll tip 65.
55 of which will be Collingwood.

Yeah. bring 'em on.

Shame on this goal kicking.

It's not Afl standard and as supporters we should tell the club it's unacceptable.

I'm wondering how the pies will crush us.

Even in the last ten mins , three goals down we looked disinterested.

Woeful.

Is he good enough to play VFL nowadays?

Probably not, he looks like a COVID top up player who has been retired for a few years

We've been playing in Alice Springs for over a decade right? I could understand how we saw more Adelaide, Port and West Coast supporters at the games. I could even understand how we saw more Freo supporters. But how do the [censored] Saints get stronger support there than a team that's spent a decade hiking out of its way to play there?

Aside from all the arguments around money, the effects on performance in games after and whether we'd have won the game if it was at the MCG, we should walk from this place simply because the locals don't get behind us. We're giving ourselves an extra away game at this point, even the seven broadcast seemed to treat it like it was the Saints home game.

Amongst all that, good to see McVee back to something like his best. Turner really consolidating himself as a first-tier key defender.

Probably a few other positives - but perhaps not the time.

Libby Birch was spot on in her analysis in The Age podcast last week. Nailed it to the ground. Pathetic performance by the Club.

Normalise context.

Message from the Melbourne Football Club: "Ha ha ha! Fooled you! All you Demons supporters out there who think we're trying to get into the finals. We are not. We are just trying to amuse all the supporters of the other clubs. We are here just to frustrate you. We play this game called football, but we don't even bother to learn the basic foot skills needed to play a game called FOOTball. Why should we? We are just the light entertainment to keep the crowds amused while the serious teams win all the spoils. Hint: every time we publish a selection list or recruit a "gun" young player, just laugh. Laugh your hardest. Because we are, too."

1. Tmac back in for Lever. He needs fitness and form

  1. Jeffo for AJ

  2. Cancel the mid season break and have a skills and goal kicking intervention. As far as I care they can practice until the team does at least 10 hammies. Not standard hammies, I’m talking off the bone type stuff.

Lever and Oliver… putrid, the game has gone past both of them.

Disappointing margin and game, but can only blame ourselves for not finishing

I'm a tour leader on a ship going through Germany that was involved in a collision last night, leaving me to deal with 150 old Americans with questions, complaints and a full program to rearrange. Only got to watch the last qtr and it was more painful than any of that.

We let Milera run on his own for most of the day, no wonder their transition game cut us up.

Lord only knows what Daicos will do to us next week.

OH AND QUIT IT WITH THIS [censored] AT ALICE SPRINGS

WHATEVER WE ARE GETTING, IT’S NOT WORTH THE LOSS.

(caps intentional)

May to his credit showed some flair after quarter time.

Lever is playing as if he's still on one ankle.

Petty is a liability in the forward line and was repeatably beaten by Caminiti (who might be one of the softer players I've seen at AFL level).

Stop selling home games up there. It’s not worth the money.

Totally agree we gave up whatever advantage is left in the AFL & made it a 50/50 game, I don’t see Collingwood doing this but hey as long as we are feeling great flying the flag of …. We are a professional football club playing on a country ground for 4 premiership points yet are willing to give up home ground advantage!

There's no way of telling anyone of importance at the club. It's a closed shop now with zero input from fans in terms of letting anyone of importance within the club know about any grievances or constructive criticism / suggestions / ideas etc.

Probably the same at most clubs i assume.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
