Geelong to be fined over 3rd party payments

I just saw a ZeroHanger headline saying they have a massive fine and went on there to find it's less than 100k and has no draft or trade sanctions. Pathetic. But we knew that would happen.

Less than $100k?

$40k of it suspended, total fine being $77.5k so less than $40k of actual fine if we want to talk round numbers.

Their players don't even get out of their Cotten-on sheeted beds for that!

We just need Bailey Smith to come out and talk about his Cotton On deal and farm deal. He doesn't seem the brightest spark, so fingers crossed.

Nigel Austin has already paid the bill in cash and threw AFL house a few tshirts

The Geeeeeelong equivalent of doing a Brock McLean. Lol.

So let me get this straight, Cats found guilty of salary cap discrepancies & fined $75k …………..meanwhile we’re found not guilty of tanking yet fined $500k 😤

The real reason Geelong suspended Mad Monday were the players taking the mickey out of the Cotton On payments, nothing to do with BS and Caro etc.

Imagine if they were tanking

Even worse, if they were not.

Scott blamed it on the accounts team having the flu

It may not have gone away....

But the close relationship between Geelong’s benefactors and its players has rankled executives from rival clubs.

“There’s just so much smoke around Geelong, and every time the AFL puts out a fire, there’s more smoke coming from somewhere else,” said a senior figure from a Melbourne-based club who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

“It will be interesting to see what they [the AFL] do now. Surely, they can’t ignore it … you have to wonder why the recent audit only went back to 2019,” the club manager said.

One of Geelong's old sponsors has been accused of a very large fraud.

A former Geelong Football Club sponsor who is accused in court documents of defrauding up to $14.5 million from registered charity genU paid more than $3300 towards the luxury accommodation of Cats stars Joel Selwood and Mitch Duncan at a German hotel in 2018.

I do so want Geelong to be exposed and brought to significant account (tanking-level- or, even better, salary-cap-breach levels).

However, that level of off-books support (accommodation, etc) I'm pretty sure every club is guilty of.

Careful what we wish for...

Yup.

Also hope Kingy isn’t wrapped up in any of it from his time there.. Last thing we need is for more drama and it being our coach of all things

Think all that stuff would be left to the skullduggery section of the list management teams at most clubs.

Yeah, maybe we shouldnt wish for that.

Or... And i'm just throwing it out there...

We could wish for Geelong to be investigated for players receiving generous donations from club sponsors who ripped off charities and partied with them in vegas?

nothing to see here, move along, no ex geelong COO's investigating their past potential salary cap indescretions, no cottoning on to anything or farming anything out, move along

It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
