I'll be very disappointed if we dont win this, Sydney still have half their side out and look very short all over the ground where we are at full strength

Viney in Sharp out Spargo out Brown in

i really like Sharp he competes and get into great positons and chases

could have kicked 3 unfortunately a serial offender in front of goals

agree 100%, he just lacks alot of polish with the ball

I'm surprised this isn't well known. The centre square is 50m by 50m. That's a policy.

The 50m arc is a guideline. I believe it is under 45m at SCG.

As I tell newbies at work a policy is just a posted guideline that has been laminated.

if turner gets dropped we riot, was in our best 3 on sunday

It would be unacceptable and getting way too cute at selection if we drop Turner. He’s already harshly been dropped once this year.

either:

1) rest one of T Mac or May and retain Turner down back.

2) drop AJ and send Turner forward. I would have a second ruck committee of Turner and Petty and concede a few hit outs to Ladhams which won’t be the end of the world.

Prefer option 2.

Sharp the other player to be dropped.

Spargo would struggle to get a game at any other club including Richmond, Norf and West Coast!

this reminds when most of when demonland were giving it to chandler early this year after a couple of poor performances. not taking into account any injury concerns, game plan etc. they have shut up now.

no Melksham is up the top of that list. his asset is our biggest weakness.

According to Mr Google this was perhaps one of those urban myths but I do agree that unlike some other lines it can have a little give and take

You know how dimensions work, yeah?

I do. 155 metres is only five metres shorter than 160 metres.

That's a difference of a mere 2.5 metres in each direction from the centre circle. (Imagine Max Gawn with his arms up ... about that distance)

The SCG is almost the same length as the MCG. Any further queries should be directed to my Captain.

If you go back to my original rebuttal, it was to be debunk the idea that Charlie was a poor kick.

Agree. Not sure how anyone thinks he is a poor kick. Spargo is not back to his 2018-23 kicking level yet but he will get there. His kicking is as good as anyone playing in the forward half. His career goal average is 0.6 v Miers at 0.7. Miers has spent 17% more time on ground in his career as well. He needs more kicks but maybe we just need to accept he will be 7 kicks a game and they will be impactful. As long as he combines that with pressure he shouldn’t be dropped.

Get your Captain to measure it on google maps with their handy distance measuring tool and report back. Looks more like 150m (which would mean an honest 50m arc would touch the mandated centre square.)

I note the ABC stated that they had lengthened the ground since 2007. Not sure how they did that.

Agree we need more goals from Spargs, but worth noting there's only 5 players at the club with more Goal Assists. So wouldn't crucify him for that one too much.
Chuck also 3rd highest tackles inside F50 for the Dees.
He's never going to light a match on fire, so the spot is his until someone comes along with better attributes. Uncertain if that is K.Brown or not.
Would like us to draft/trade another small forward who has more 'elite' stats than 'average'.

Would prefer Spargo, who some excuse as coming back from injury, playing a few weeks at Casey with K Brown herring a decent seniors run in the same role.

Come list management time we will have the likes of Brown and Woey without sufficient exposure from which to make a hard call.

So tmac then?

or May (managed)?

so does that mean that every player in a chain from deep defence to a goal of uninterrupted would get a goal assist? Just asking.

Recovering from a long injury layoff with half a dozen senior games doesn’t seem logical to me. Lever came back (or will be coming back) via Casey so why not Spargo?

Maybe the usual ABC “fact checker”?🤔

I think your missing drevs point ds - as I noted it's also 5 metres narrower.

Which means there's less area.

Which us why over the last 10 seasons the average score there is aprox 10 points less than at the g, which statistically is very significant.

It's a [censored] ground that's too small for modern AFL footy.

Ditto kardinia Park for exactly the same reason.

I do wonder if Tmac is not in better shape than May .

Perhaps it's Lever and May who need managing.

Leave Disco and Tommy alone unless otherwise.. .

I'm not Spargypants greatest fan but he does have footy smarts. Certainly an enigma to me. Goody has mucho faith in him 🤔🤷‍♂️

My Captain sent me to see Private Parts who referred me up the chain to Corporal Punishment and I eventually ended up with a Major Headache.

A smaller ground (with shorter distances to cover) should result in higher scores.

Sure.

If it was 1977 and zones weren't a thing.

Kittylitter Park is the most offensive ground. Practically missing a wing ffs ( Moorabool St side ), that peatfield is an abomination. Refuse to go there.

I truly think the SCG thing is more a mental thing imo. Get a tape measure and mark off 5m and 9m .. ( resp len and width diff ) ..it's not that much. I don't think so anyways.

Other grounds have greater discrepancies.

Ours perfect..... of course 😉

Who totally lost the plot with the ensuring General Mayhem.

@D Rev is clearly talking about going straight to goal from the centre bounce. Nothing to do with the width of the ground or overall dimensions.

No Vines is a right shame, must not have passed the latest concussion test.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
