Dogs must be making some decent coin playing in Ballarat if they're happy to see 15,000 supporters miss out on attending today's game. Capacity must have been around 5,000.

City of Ballarat subsidise the game. The usual rate is $1M but Dogs are getting under $500k for a couple of games per year.

My guess is that they are trying to turn it into a break even mini stadium longer term.

Makes sense but definitely a gamble

The new partnership between the City of Ballarat and the Western Bulldogs will see two AFL games, one AFLW game, Sons & Daughters of the West Health Program, Youth Leadership Program and Bulldogs Read Program. The three-year partnership contribution from the City of Ballarat totals $1.375 million.

State govt is separately pumping in over $30M to upgrade the ground and surrounding Event space

Adelaide are so good to watch when they’re on

yep - their slingshot from the back half run-and-gun game into three big forwards with swooping smalls is basically the modern game

we wanted to go with that at the start of the year, but the triumvirate of jvr / el jefe / aj ain't no fogarty / tex / thilthorpe, and only lasted one week to start the year!

Yeah, slightly less potent attack in our team, haha

Crows really nothing to lose this year, it’s no surprise to anyone that their backline is lacking badly. Finals is just a free hit for them. Could do some damage if they just play their game

So at a pub with Collingwood mates and mostly watched the Pies Cats game with our game on my phone. Wow what a game at the G. pies almost stole it.

Feel for Crisp and don’t at the same time. He is going to want that moment back for the rest of his life.

And it’s also official. Bailey Smith is a complete [censored] taking a dig at his old club on live TV. Say what you want about your old club behind closed doors but to air it out in the public eye just makes you look like a complete [censored] … just shows you the arrogance of Geelong.

Jim said you can take my record but I won't let you win.

I didn’t catch all of the interview before the game started, but Crisp mentioned something about a donation going to the Reach Foundation, which I thought was a terrific recognition of Jimmy’s contribution to more than just the game! Not sure if it was maybe his match fee, or something else, but I think it speaks volumes for him as a person.

I've not got the game on but heard the roar of the crowd (since I live within walking distance to the SCG and near a local pub that always cheers for the Swans). Checked the score... slaughter! Giants asleep at the wheel??

I reckon most interstate sides would bring more supporters to the SCG than GWS. I don't care how lauded their social media is they are still a plastic entity.

Sydney derby hidden in a 1:10 Sunday game time slot is a surprise/shame. 2 top 5 sides from last year also.

who ever does the fixtures needs to be given the chair, especially after thurs and friday this game should have been on one of those nights

I heartily disagree with you on this, HT.

Jack Crisp is a bottom feeder. It’s easy to forget his past indiscretions: he was busted sexting underage girls. Granted, it was years ago and he was young but for mine that’s what speaks volumes about him as a person.

He made a donation to Reach…. and publicly told everyone. I’ve made donations to Reach, we (the DA) make donations to Reach on a regular basis, many people make donations to Reach, but we don’t feel the need to inform everyone of such.

This is my appraisal of Jack Crisp. I don’t expect everyone else to agree.

This morning I got home at 7am having not slept for 30 hours, eight of which were on a plane, several hours at the prematch function and of course a gruelling sesh of front row flogging.

Before slipping into a coma I did one thing and one thing only: I watched the Kayo Mini of the Geel/Coll match, including three encores of the final 60 seconds, and as far as understatements go, here’s a whopper… I was happy 😃

strange that the only players who do this seem to play for geelong collingwood and carlton, mmmm coincidence

Imagine how good Stringer would have been if he popped into the gym every now and then

Reflecting on the drive-by-shooting words from Bailey Smith. He is a terrific footballer in great form, but that was appalling. No reason, no excuse, and when he needed his post-millennial psycho hug, the bulldogs helped him get to the club of his choice. Kudos to the Bulldogs - really poor form from Smith.

I loved the response from Bontempelli.

And although I despise football thuggery in any form, I hope Libba tears him apart in a legal tackle next week and he gets subbed out. And as he walks off I hope he flips the bird (again) and gets suspended.

I thought it was cute that he so publicly cheated on his wife but got her front & centre of all the photos 🤮

So many [censored] in this Hawthorn team.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
