Goody said Selection is based on form..

I've been overseas for a bit, however could someone please explain what Fritsch did at VFL form wise to warrant selection vs Richmond? Genuine question as was surprised to see his name called out.

Max to rest

Tom Campbell to play

He was brought in to replace the injured Melksham

Good idea.

Get Jacko to teach Van Rooyen how to lead.

Best leading full forward - Peter McKenna.

Not sure whether Mini can engineer an upset here. He knows our game plan and our players so will be interesting.

Our 46 fwd 50 tackles in the past 2 games has brought heat on the oppo. Expect that to continue. That is formidable.

Is that opinion or just what you've heard?

Hopefully opinion.

Teams that are 2-5 don't have the luxury of getting cute at selection.

Hopefully opinion 9 day break and managed ANZAC Eve to this game and 7 day break to Hawks

Can't believe some of the criteria here for selection..

They play better at their home town!!

His enthusiasm spurs others on!!

We need to get games into him!!

We could play him there to boost his confidence!!

How about every child wins a prize?

How about more DEI?

How about he has great hair?

How about form??

Pretty sure it’s that mullet keeping Tholstrup in the side 😂

To be a complete Debbie Downer I’m 💯 that we’re going to lose over there & bring that pressure right back on ourselves.

And with all due respect to Melk who has been a good player for a long time he is DONE, the problem is there’s not much in the cupboard

And if it’s a choice between Spargo & Sharp I’d go with the quick one. Not convinced Spargo’s pressure & 1%ers are enough to warrant selection

Melksham was injured with a gash on his knee. as was Turner on concussion protocols. Thats why Fritsch was selected. Now with Melksham available your question is more valid if he stays in the side.

You're not being a Debbie Downer, just exhibiting clear signs of MFCSS.

I'm not a betting man but I'll take some of what you're laying down.

d&d deal with it GIF by Hyper RPG

Thought WCE in the highlights package from last week's game really dropped their collective heads. Their first three goals which was pretty much a half of footy was based on two mistakes from Hawthorn and a long range effort from Waterman.

I'd like to think that if we learn from their past games we should be in front far enough at 3QT that our last quarter fade outs hopefully won't be a factor.

The Juddster’s 50th game this weekend!!!

I'm actually with you on this one. And it's purely to do with the venue and long road trip ahead of them.

Just not feeling it this week. I think the Eagles will go all out attack, kick some early goals, get the fans involved and I can see their maligned players in H Reid and O Allen having big ones. And being 0-7 their clearly one game closer to their first win.

And we have a massive handicap that we have seemingly put on ourselves. We get outscored by an average of 20 points in 4th quarters which logic suggests we need to have a 3 goal lead at 3 qtr time to hang on.

However If the game were at the G or at a neutral venue, I'd be in no doubt we'd be 3-5.

I can only applaud the optimism of some.

I was suspicious in earlier games we were afforded the status of favourites as we are again.

I'm not convinced that's valid.

Yes we won against a Tiger side that were still showing signs of life and out gunned us 4 goals to 1in the last. And there it is again our puesdo Achilles heel.. again just ONE goalin the final term. Sorry but that's pathetic.

Eagles still managed 4 going down to a marauding Hawthorn.. I sense some have us already triumphant , I think there's still much to do before we can consider ourselves a properly competitive outfit.

We had some poor performances in the past against this lot.

On paper I think we ought to win, if only by a paltry distance. On grass.... We need to be on the ball.... npi.

Fantastic! He will enjoy being home.

Don't let those pesky Eagles swoop and claim him for their evil nest. They already have Hunt🥹, can't have my next fave ❤️!

@Lucifers Hero , can you please stop liking McVee for a while, at least pretend.

Does it work the other way? If you really like opposition players, do we end up getting them?

If so, can you start loving Butters? 🤣

Dont be so miserable old mate.

Yes, this is a danger game, but we've won 2 in a row. 1st as rank outsiders and 2nd as favourites.

Looking forward to sitting at the cheer squad end with my son and seeing a solid win!

What an absolute disgrace on the part of AFL for tolerating this as a “support competition”!!!

Agree Mono, did you read my forum "The basket case that is"?

My demeanour toward the Dees is not of misery.

It's just a realistic (to me) appraisal of where we are.

We aren't where we could/should be

I'll be happily surprised by a win. I just have a sense that unless we are in ascendancy at 3/4 ( and by decent margin) then I think our Achilles Heel will trip us up...again.

We're the walkabout warriors.. play 3 qtrs then go missing.

That's not just my impression... that's fact.

The "Quarters" thread bears this view out.

Go Dees

I think Tom Campbell will play replacing Fullarton. I also think Tom will share more of the ruckwork with Max than perhaps Fullarton did.

There is intense media focus on the Eagles. Just in time for our game…

There was ann internal, player lead intervention with coaches and footy staff yesterday about the mounting displeasure of their performance this year.

I’d expect a massive response from the eagles, but as is with these things, if we can withstand the intial pressure and put ourselves in front, I can see them falling apart pretty quickly. If, however we give them a sniff, then we are in big trouble.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
