Rapt with not only a 4 quarter effort but the way we responded multiple times when they came at us.

Was a great atmosphere at the G. Great game of footy

It was nice to see our forwards not get in each other's way today.
Our tackling and pressure in our 50 was great. Something fritsch has to learn to do

No, but we saw two players with locked arms around the ball trying to take it off each other. Maybe a visit to Specsavers might be in order.

Anyone else thinking Sparrows having a quiet season compared to his usual?

He’s been MIA this year but I think he was better today.

2 & 1/2 quarters through the replay and faark me Freo got a good deal from the umpires today!

The umpiring was stuffed. No consistency.

What’s his usual?

Tom had a good 2021 but despite constant attempts by the coaches to make him a midfielder or wingman he just isn’t one. Ball use and awareness are both too poor.

Did an ok job tagging Holmes, got killed by Merrett last week because he just isn’t smart enough to stick with a clever mid.

Today they made Viney tag Serong and limited Sparrow to purely half forward and despite some usual fumbles and decision errors he did a great team job and took some strong marks which is a key part of his game.

But he’s a limited role player, he is what he is by now.

Another reason we need to re-sign TMac ASAP: the Filth are probably lurking in the shadows, ready to throw five years and a complimentary cheeseboard at him the moment we blink.

Anyone remember the great duo Lou and Jack arguing about the ruck position. Lou saying it’s easy , Jack saying it wasn’t.

Max is best I’ve ever seen. That said if you compete and level the contest you have done a good job. That’s exactly what Fullarton did today. Gave Max a few breathers and look at the outcome.

Isn't it amazing that with two tall forwards the opposition do not get to intercept mark and allows our smaller forwards to go to town.

Great win.

Just hope Turner can play next week. He was pivotal in defence. Not only physical but fairly quick as well.

we scored more in the first then gws did the whole game vs crows..

We equalled our highest score for the year by half time.

In transit so didn’t see the game. Was sure we would get well beaten.

Looks like we have season lift off

Need to back it up v tiges and eagles

Retain the same team also so no jvr or fritsch against Richmond

I cried.

I won’t lie, I had to put my sunnies on for the song. Had some tears in my eyes and didn’t want anyone to notice :)

Lord Edward Is God saw his first full game win today. He was singing the song loudly with his nuffy dad. Thank you, Demons.

Great to see we’re dropping 205 games of experience and replacing them with 49—courtesy of three players who wouldn’t crack the 22 at most clubs this week. And two of the three are the wrong ones. If I’m JVR, I’m calling my manager tonight.

Desperate times call for desperate measures QD

I can sniff a win but beer o'clock also started about 2 hours ago!

He brought incredible energy early and set the tone. He is going to be a 'glue' guy who brings it all together.

Made a huge difference without having many touches.

You need an enforcer or two.

We've had the old stager in Vines for so long. Now he's joined by the young Kolt.

Fighting for every scrap, jostling and flying the flag are just as important as anything else in the game.

Add to that the fierce attack on the ball and ball carrier.

Pressure pressure pressure. Something that's been missing for far too long.

The sharing of ball, running in support and more HBs forward (finally), paid dividends today.

Have to back it up though. No flukes pls.

What did you think of the game today mate? Did it look like the pre season ball movement that some have said?

Thought we were so exciting. And of course Goody and Chaplin have been there before playing that way with earlier iterations of this team. Bassett's attacking defensive set up during his time at Port will be an interesting watch for the rest of the season.

Hopefully having May, Lever and McVee back in the back 7, we'll manage to win more 1v1s back there, but it felt like the easy scores against were a midfield problem. Either from too aggressive set ups or poor set ups or poor defensive transition.

I also hope having May and Lever back doesn't slow or [censored] our bounce off half back.

Interesting: No 'first win' guys in the middle; all part of the unified circle (bit of love saved for the break-up, e.g. Tholstrup for Sharp)

I need to apologise for saying Kozzie was a late out. We had DA members at Casey and they announced it in our group WhatsApp and it spread like wildfire throughout the cheer squad. Sorry for worrying folks.

But more importantly…

HOW BLOODY GOOD WAS THAT WIN !!!

All the emotions running amok but the main one was RELIEF. So, so proud of our boys.

PS: ‘twas my lucky Melbourne socks that did it.

YOU’RE ALL WELCOME!

Needless to say I’ll be wearing them every week.

Again, you’re all welcome 😁

YEAH THE MIGHTY DEES!

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
