This should put to bed for good the excuse that in the past our lack of efficiency came from having shots from 'lower percentage areas' like the pockets. Sure that could be factored in.

But.

The overarching reason we are so poor in this area and bottom of this particular list is down to having a a large group of players who lack composure overall. And it'd be fair to say most of that comes from open play shots on goal. And it's been this way for years.

Kicking ourselves out of games, literally. All over the ground but especially going inside 50 and at having shots on goal.

Our manic bombing it in is so counterintuitive given our lack of players who can take a pack mark.

We are also missing players who used to crumb well in Spargo and Nibbler. Chin has dropped off in this area too so it's so frustrating.

I hope we try something different with our fwd line but I have no idea what that could be. Maybe isolating Kozzie at ff for a few cameos

It's only in the last 2 games that we've had more scoring shots but lost.

We have had another 6 games where we kicked from between 1 (twice) and 7 more behinds than goals, but we still had less scoring shots. Of the 5 we lost, we had between 4 and 9 (twice) less scoring shots.

So, season 2025 has been about much more than accuracy.

2022 to 2024 on the other hand?...

Our last place on the (in)accuracy ladder is skewed by just 3 of our 13 results. Had we matched the scoring accuracy of our opponents in those 3 games we would be placing second, on 163 goals 145 behinds, or 52.9%

So it looks like out putrid performance in goal Kicking has no father, so to speak.

We hear from the HC they keep working on that, but nothing changes.

Surely someone's position in the FD of Coaching staff should be shaky?

It's the result of drafting and trading for players who are competitors and/or runners. It's honestly as simple as that. Composure, decision making and kicking have never been the number 1 priority since the 'Melbourne player' tag-line was introduced. When you have that many players on your list who all share the same weakness, this is the result. Kicking yourself out of the game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

If we don't want to be left behind in a big way, Goody simply has to make some difficult but necessary calls on moving some senior players on in the off-season.

Oliver, Viney, Trac, Rivers. Their inability to execute skills at important times is unbelievably bad. Oliver was just wild today when he got the ball. No care. Viney, same story. Trac, same story. Rivers lacks serious composure too.

We need to make some hard calls at the end of the year, Oliver needs to go. I'd be willing to let Fritsch go and I hope May retires so Petty never plays forward again. Plus I think May is just not a great team mate.

Hard calls. Make them Simon.

Any chance someone at the club could explain to Max that he ALWAYS kicks to the left when shooting for goal ? No point playing him forward till he understands this basic principle. Don’t worry about trying to kick straight - aim to the right of desired flight path and all else will take care of itself!

Does my head in, everyone knows what is going to happen when he lines up except for Max - doing the same thing over and over and expecting the result to be different , we all know what that is.

Can’t disagree. That was schoolboy stuff today. In the end though if we kick straight in the third we probably win that.

Yeah pretty simple lost us a game against Cats a few years back and been the same ever since. Love Gawny but it unforgivable for a professional.

And a regular psychologist isn't going to be near enough, they need to go to Vienna or something and get a team of the best psychiatrists watching these guys round the clock. How they sleep, how they eat, how they put one foot in front of the other. WE NEED A TEAM.

It’s because we need cleaner ball use at half back and as a mid he just bombs it like the rest of our experienced mids. It’s a huge concern.

Or Davd Neitz. PLEASE get somebody into Melbourne that will teach the fundamental skill of SET SHOT GOAL KICKING.

Everybody knows Melbourne suck at this. The current coaches know it. They've tried. The players know it. They've tried. All have failed.

We have dominated so many games since winning the flag in 21. So many games we've smashed the opposition with inside 50 counts and shots at goal. Only to lose through inaccurate kicking. A major component of this is set shot goal kicking. Melbourne's has been atrocious over the last 4 years. This year I hear it is the worst in the AFL.

Get Lloyd. Get Neitz. Or Get F@#*ed....

Time for Greeny to roll up his sleeves and teach the lads how to kick for goal.

He was a pretty straight kick back in the day.

Except I don’t believe it was an accident. But yes it won’t likely happen again.

It’s a skill. Probably now the most important skill for the Melbourne footy club

Today’s 3rd quarter was the prime example The Dees had all the momentum Dees got within 5 points and had 3 goals in a row But had butchered opportunities to get in front

The misses … Gawn (hooked it again, 2.13 so far , and a miss from 25 metrs out), Gawn a running shot from 20 metrs out, Petty miss from 20 metres dead in front, Clarry left foot snap from 15 metre out (no score) , Trac a snap from 20 metre out (no score), Sparrow a miss from on the behind line that is a goal probably scored 85% of the time … such basic errors SIX chances … four behinds … no excuses … none !!! No breeze , no moisture !!!

(Sure Ports two goals were umpiring favourable to Rioli & Georgiades)

Zero scoreboard impact is DEMORALIZING for players and supporters It’s depressing !!

The retched luck this club has had with Gus, Trac and Oliver. I mean the odds of one player being retired vs losing the engine room over two seasons is just unfathomable.
