Posters saying we robbed the premiership of the dogs …. 74 points isn’t robbing & it’s 4 years ago a lot has changed including god knows what game plan we are trying to pay!

Posts on Trac are win poor taste, at ground level he was frustrated & trying he’s guts out, need to consider how much footy he’s missed plus a long way back physically & mentally

I can't cop this stealing a flag business. Things did line up for us but we were clearly the best team in 21.

Things almost always "line up" for the premiers. Downplaying our 2021 flag is a revisionist disgrace.

We won the minor Premiership and played three of the best finals in modern history. The Dogs finished 5th. Don't talk rubbish pal.

Spoke to an ex Dees player tonight. Doesn't know but believes something is seriously wrong internally!!

Yes, this sudden revisionist tripe is really annoying. It's like yelling at a cloud that passed 4 years ago.

The other thing I've noticed today is complaints that all the experts said we were gonna be a dynasty after that flag. They say it about every team that wins it.

Don't know about you lot but I'm off to watch us rob the Bulldogs by 13 goals again.

Like many internal problems, a good starting point is an enema

At this point in the season it has to be. How do you go from the performance in Rd1 to now?

Something has happened in the last fortnight I reckon. The lack lustre performances with our list - even though it’s not a top 4 list- it’s not 2nd last either.

People also forget that Port Adelaide and Brisbane were gifted home finals while we had to play at neutral venues despite being minor premiers.

Same. I can’t understand why a Melbourne supporter would want to water down the ‘21 flag. We finished on top of the ladder and nobody got remotely close to us in the finals, including the team we supposedly pick-pocketed. It’s almost like a form of self-loathing.

Just because we’re crap again now doesn’t mean we weren’t top notch in our flag year.

There's no problem with talking to yourself, there's not even a problem with answering either.

But when you talk to yourself, answer and then find yourself going "huh?". You got a problem.

Melbourne is that person right now..

I miss the good people we had around our club. Gus, Nibbler, Hibberd, Jetta. Bedford, Jordon.

All had flaws but guys you could rely on to crack in.

Honestly the types Tim Lamb brought in....billings...schache...Grundy...mcadam....we moved away from guys that could win contests...to guys that just have no physicality. Or weak mentality. Or weak bodies. You couldn't have managed a list more poorly if you tried.

We were such a brutal team at the peak.

Sigh

I used to love seeing them all come down the lraces/ corridor at the start of every game in 21 totally pumped excited and smiling and laughing.

Enjoying their footy and oozing the paragon of confidence.

Give Kyah Farris White our regards PF!!

Garbage, we were minor premiers and they didn't finish top 4. Outscored them 100-7 from midway thru the 3rd, dunno how you claim we "stole" it, that's just insulting.

With all the talk about ball movement and high scoring games. Watching the two games tonight - they are not really high scoring.

Yep

We had serious swagger and teams were often intimidated by our physicality.

We're now bruise free.

Not just the names above...but Lachie Hunter. Bad character - ordinary player. Who knows what impact he had on the group or some individuals.

Jayden Hunt was another good character. We shipped them all out.

Our performance against GWS is more the outlier since half way through last year.

Actually totally related in a fashion.

We had a lot of things go our way in 21, not tge least of all was we played an odd style that worked....but only then.

The same ppl haven't been able to truly create a game that works for us since. 23 was close but we were found wanting by teams that had a better game.

We are where we are . It's not an accident, we're here by design.

It's totally relatable imho

Our entries were poor in 22 and 23, but we win the 23 flag if we don't kick like absolute [censored] in those finals. The gamestyle used to work. Like all gamestyles before it, it has become obsolete due to changes in the trends of the game. Why pretend it never worked? Richmond won three flags with a similar formula.

With all the noise coming out the club its no surprise.... can someone stand up( Brad Green) at sort this sh$#t out. Even if it means pulling your mates in order!! For f#$k sake we can't be this unprofessional again.

Not sure but I think the rain on the day round 1 gave us a slow, wet track and a chance for our slow footed, bull midfield to match GWS and go close to winning. Once we have faced young quick sides on fast decks the old firm have been exposed for lack of speed big time.

We cannot run , cannot mark, do not lead , and cannot tackle and are not fit. But we can fumble, Pity about XL,

To my mind the only time we looked a side was when AJ was throwing his weight around. We have been soft cooks since 2000 when no one stood up to essenscum and last year against Mmmaynard and then they shook his hand and spoke to him like he is human.

No wonder other clubs laugh at us and are not concerned.

On the other hand I did think most of the players were trying only a couple were half hearted,

I dread seeing what happens next week.

I haven’t forgotten how they let Maynard off

Including that disgusting bum tap in the game last year by Petracca and May. The playing group lost me

I want serious mongrel

I just watched the press conference and I felt Goody gave a bit of a parting shot to N Jones at the end. Was pretty blunt when he said our set up at clearance and method is all wrong

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
