If anyone was saying "just shut up and let wins do the talking" it was the club in 2022-23. Can almost guarantee if we didnt have the year we had last year they'd still be denying any issues. 

There was certainly contradiction from Goodwin last night and another good lesson why you take everything he says now with a grain of salt.

We heard him and Pert say in a SEN interview in October 2023 that we have the best culture in 40 years, but yet last night he admitted that we were dealing with internal player issues around that time.

In a press conference last year after the GWS defeat towards the back end of the year there was a question posed to Goodwin regarding Oliver trade speculation. He openly said this:

 "He's a Melbourne person through and through. He's not going anywhere. "He's a proud Melbourne person, we love him, we love the work that he's done.

"We'll get his footy right, and he's going to be here for a long, long time playing some great footy."

Then last night he admitted there was discussions around Oliver in whether he would be best suited elsewhere and other options be assessed but unfortunately that got out to the press before it actually got to Oliver first.

I'm not sure it was going to eventuate but clearly the club had circled his name around trade discussions.

But we really only had three internal issues at the end of ‘23, No.13,29, Gus and of course a chronically injured No.50. Club wasn’t allowed to mention 29 and 13 couldn’t be openly discussed. What are you referring to exactly?

Stretching a long bow there Dazzle your views on Simon are very heavily slanted against him, no one outside the FD know what shenanigans went on late ‘23 - early ‘24.

I haven’t been an advocate of changing coaches, but things seem to be getting more and more bizarre with Simon. Lots of talk of love and culture: of course you need to create a great work environment, but I start to get the feeling that Goody is ensuring the love of the players to cover his own back. 
 

Start winning, with clear attacking football and this will go a long way to creating the love, happiness and passion in the players (and supporters) that he talks about. I feel that the ‘feel good’ messaging is a bit of smokescreen to disguise a generally underwhelming performance on the field over the last three years.

There was no contradiction at all.

Listen to the actual interview, rather than doing a Tom Morris and creating a separate narrative based entirely on the isolated "best culture in 40 years" sound byte. 

From the 15 min mark onwards, having previously discussed Goodwin rumours, Smith, Oliver... etc, the "isolated behavioral issues/incidents" were specifically addressed within the overall culture discussion. 

It was literally said in the preceding 30 seconds before the "best in 40 years" statement that everyone has run with was made, so it was not a new admission from Goodwin whatsoever.

They also specifically talk about the Oliver trade period situation from the 25 minute mark onwards and how that all played out, so that's not a new admission/contradiction either.

Claptrap, I'm afraid. It's so vague and cliched, that it makes it impossible to measure success against it, which in turn makes players and coaches unaccountable.

I fear the 'love' mantra is the club's 2025 buzzword that 'culture' was last year.

I'm already tired of hearing it.  Its being overplayed and pretty soon the 'love' talk will be ridiculed by fans and the media just as the 'culture' narrative was ridiculed last year.

Time for football to do the talking.

i don’t dislike any of my colleagues, i actually quite like some of them but talking of love in a work environment situation is just cringe

I've worked on the factory floor, in hospitality and professional services. And I've been part of Gaelic football teams and clubs.

They're not that different either TU

Footy clubs and maybe some other sports clubs are different. When you succeed you likely stick together for years on end and you grow to love your team mates and their differences. 

That's why footy is so great. l have 12 friends l have an annual trip with and watch our 1990/2000s matches l have digitised together over a few drinks. Nothing beats those memories and the trust and bond you have with them. Let there be more love at MFC

Paul Roos is of the view that any player is tradeable which I agree with. The club had stated it would leave no stone unturned to get better and this includes trading out star players.

I wouldn't put it past Geelong to have indicated an interest in Oliver and when Melbourne discussed a potential trade that Geelong leaked this to the media in order to turn Oliver against the us and into their arms.

For what it's worth I'm bullish about what we can achieve this year and excited to see how far love can take us.

Don Scott and Leigh Matthews did not speak to each other for years at Hawthorn 

Didn’t stop them winning multiple Premierships together. 
 

Just do your F$&@ job to the best of your ability….

Well IMV Goody admited he got it wrong regarding the Max Gawn statement and ALL CREDIT to him for that!! But BUT I strongly believe that unless a miracle happens and there is SEISMIC turnaround and we make the 8 NO DOUBT in my mind he should not coach MFC in 2026. IF it all goes pear shaped and we are 0-6 then slithera city awaits in the snakes and ladders of success vs failure and he should be extremely concerned about HIS coaching future beyond round 6! INTERESTING TIMES!

At @Tony Tea would say “footy is lies”. No one is out there telling the truth about everything going on at their club.

I agree with the mass of what you said, but

1. the instability right now and for the last several years has been reinforced by Goodwin. 

2. our premiership was coming - with the list we had it was almost inevitable, once we started with those breakthrough wins against Hawthorn in 2016 etc. Goodwin might have had very little to do with it when you consider the stature of Gawn Petracca and Oliver and May and Lever.

3. A new coach doesnt have to take long to succeed (see Mcrae and Chris Scott)- 24 months, sometimes less.

4. Much as we love Goody and want it to work, we need to use our reason over our emotions on this one. Goody just selected Billings again - the guy can't play football.

I have to agree, just cut the life coach talk. You don’t here Kingsley talk about love, he talks about winning 

The continue noise the club brings upon itself just want stop! Strong clubs keep this stuff in house & deal with it! We just seem to always come out wth a story around adversity to achieve what recognition?? What’s concerning is allowing Oliver to play in the seniors without a preseason, imagine what the other 43 players who busted their rear ends must of though? That’s your  culture issue! Sure help Oliver but still needed to earn his spot

    For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

    In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
