I think longmire is enjoying having a break from coaching. I'm not sure he's ready to deal with our team yet.

Also he has a role at Sydney still

I didn't think I would say this ever but f me the Port Boys are still playing for Ken Hinkley.

After 12 years at the helm still has the Port players ears and he's turn over Port's list a couple of times.

I havent seen one good suggestion on this thread yet. Step up and bring some better suggestions that just Longmire who fails on the big stage.

Is it Hinkley or is it Carr? Roos was "coach" in 2016, but Goody was essentially coaching then.

ย

Brett Ratten anyone?

Unceremoniously dumpled by Carlton and Saints before he had a chance to deliver on what he was building. Sat in for Clarkson when he took LOA.

Currently Head of Coaching Performance & Developmentย  at Hawthorn.

I just want to follow the trend of the new and upcoming young coach.

He won a premiership

Cameron Bruce is tactically intelligent, considered and has done his apprenticeship.

Hinkley can't take the next step, the other options seem flakey or not available.

But for mine, I don't rate the assistants. We need someone who genuinely understands forward craft.

But you can't complain about bombing it long and then not recruit better ball users.

I'm definitely interested in Bruce. Came to the Lions as a midfield coach after they'd bungled their third finals series in a row, said in an interview when he joined his major focus would be their running patterns. That year they make a prelim from 6th, the following year the make the Grand Final, then last year they win the flag. This year they are top of the ladder, undefeated after 5 games.

I remember watching the lions during 2023 thinking about how easily they seemd to be able to move the ball, always seemed to have players in space. Hope we interview him.

I'd like Longmire because (1) he's always making the finals and semi-regularly grannies, and (2) to date he plays half a year on a ground the size of a postage stamp and only gets 1-2 games on the G a year. Give him a home ground of the G which he'll then learn to play better, and I reckon he'd then have a better strike rate in grannies.

Ken can get them up for a game about once a month. Then they lose to the Saints and Bombers and get thrashed by almost 100 points by the pies

He has served up so many pathetic prelim performances at home I have no idea how he still has/had a job

I think a Cameron Bruce and Adam Simpson as senior assistant combo could be very effective

It helps that their midfield and half back is stacked with good ball users...

True, some of the best around.

The way this team has transformed their ball movement over the last 3-4 years has been quite remarkable.

Does Leppitsch have any ambition of being a senior coach again? From memory he's been an assistant at multiple premiership clubs and seems to have the respect and nous to be a senior coach if he desired. We should be sounding him out.

Still think John Longmire is the number 1# choice. At least in my opinion.

Whether or not he is genuinely interested in coaching the Demons is another matter altogether.

I just think he is the highest quality candidate. While he did lose 4 Grand Finals, I think the issue was more to do with the Swans not playing regularly on the MCG.

After John Longmire it's basically one of either Justin Leppitsch, Cameron Bruce or Adam Simpson.

However, I never thought of Brett Ratten. He could be another possibility.

Luke Beveridge is more a dark horse option.

Whoever it is, they have to be capable and up for the challenge. It took us 57 years to break our Premiership drought. We never want to have to wait that long ever again!

If it were a choice between Leppitsch, Bruce or Simpson, I'd choose the unknown in Bruce. Would love Leppa as a line coach though, maybe the senior assistant to Bruce...

ย

The coach will depend on whether the club genuinely think we are contending, or if we need another few years to challenge. Rebuild coaches do not last the journey, so if we want to rebuild might be worth getting a coach who can instill strong ethic and attacking flair, and Above all skills. I think Hird could be an option if he was keen to coach again.

If you asked me during 2023, I would've thought that either him or Fagan would lose their jobs that same year or the year after.

Now it seems that Goodwin may be out the door first. The irony.
