We are down 20 in contested possession against kids and old blokes

That shows we are just not tough enough or putting in

No game plan works when you don’t get the ball

Soft half of footy

So many issues, some of it personnel (May at one end, Picket at the other), but could be a long season at this rate. While some teams are going backwards, there aren't really many easy-beats any more.

This week's "Learnings" should be a good listen

Did feel like our ball pressure was way off, very reactive and often falling off tackles. The ease with which they’ve been able to transition the ball needs to be addressed.

Conversely, our D50 transition is shocking. Will be a hard slog all game if we can’t start getting some run off the back.

Really missing the likes of Pickett, Windsor and McVee

Soft maybe.. but certainly lacking the defensive intensity, or intent.

So I guess all the reporting of the forward line movement pre season was just fiction back to being witches hats.

I really don't know what people expect. North is on the way up, we are lingering in neutral. You just knew that this was going to he a season of unknowns based on how the club spoke about the season. It was all pretty low-key, timid stuff. People need to temper their expectations.

We will bounce back and win.

Big time.

But it will be hard to forget some of that really bad footy.

Playing group isn’t good enough and our coach isn’t good enough to get the most out of an average list.

Nothing will change with Simon at the helm. Wasting another season.

Thanks to Chin otherwise we would be down five goals

There is literally nothing to back this up,

Agree.  We are a poor kicking team for years now, with ongoing deficiencies in forward connection.  Doesn't matter who we play, we're going to be giving them a lot of chances.

The selfish bugger needs to dish it off. He had a team mate off to his left with a paddock then.

Gawn is not a goal kicker and keeps fancying himself that he is. Not good leadership

Very selfish.  They're mostly playing individual footy with only a sprinkling of players truly invested.

The confidence, spirit, flair, selfless team work and skill of the 2021 premiership team is a distant memory now.

Watching most games this year 1 thing has stuck out and that’s speed and skills is the way now the game has changed, problem is we have none of that so I can’t see us doing much this year even if we win today

At this stage most supporters expect us to be in the mix for finals contention. At this stage we look like an early write off.

If we execute our handballs, I.e. hit simple targets from a few meters away, we’d be winning. We put ourselves under so much bloody pressure from basic skill errors.

Reckon we are in trouble in this game big time, we just can’t cover 4-5 key outs of the moment no depth in the list

Powell has been excellent for North. The grim reality is for us is that you can see that he’s positioned around the contest with time and space. We need to find a way to shut these types of players down.

Poor decision making. Skill execution terrible.

I think people expect us to beat a bottom 4 team as most of the footy world would

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
