It’s Game Day! Round 2 is upon us and both the Dees and the Roos are chasing their first win of the season. After a tough opener, the Demons will be desperate to bounce back. A loss will be the first time in 6 years that the Dees have started the year 0 and 2 so the stakes already feel high. It's time to dig deep and get that first win on the board. Go Demons.

Finally get to go to a game. If we play with same intensity as last week and sustain it, we should come away with the chocolates. Go Dees.

Early start for me. The bounce at 5.20 am my time. Coffee and breakfast at half-time.

Believe we should win with our defensive strength matching/beating their forward quality. Our forwards should have an easier time of it this week as the Roos defence looks to,have a few holes in it. Our midfield to have too much for the Roos and too improve with the run last week.

I look to the team to run out winners in the second half.

Oh I can do better than that timeline... The game starts in my lounge room at 12:20 am Sunday.

Sadly, I'm unable to attend to today but watching a bit of Essendon get flogged did improve my mood. I must admit, I hate Darklands  ( it's a soulless [censored] ) so that, combined with The Manor's luxuries, is a good reason to be an armchair expert today.

I expect we will (must) win this game but it won't be a pushover. Norf have some gun kids and if we allow them to get their tails up they will be difficult to rein in.

Their midfield has some class but ours is classier, although Max will likely have it a bit tougher this week. Looking for a big one from Clarrie.

We certainly have a few missing today. I really like watching Windsor's class - he's an emerging champ. However, it looks like we'v e found another one in Lindsay who looked remarkably cool and composed for a debutant. Langford is stiff and I reckon we made a poor decision in starting him as sub last week.

Missing May again hurts but with Petty back where he belongs and Tmac apparently still slurping from the fountain of youth we still look strong down back.

Norf aren't great in defence so it will give our forwards an opportunity to click. I just hope Fritsch doesn't move more than 30 metres from the goal square and that JVR clunks a few in the dry conditions and builds some confidence. The same goes for Jeffo. I noticed that Turner got some bad press on this site but I like his energy and straight kicking. I'm hoping he'll surprise his critics. Trac going forward and kicking a couple will again be crucial.

Melbourne should approach this game with caution. Underestimating North Melbourne not a good idea. I'm predicting a close one, and although a Demons supporter for 57 years, it could actually go either way.

Just get the feeling North win this won.

I have Dua Lipa after the game so don’t ruin my mood dees! Let’s goooo!

It’s game day baby. Pumped!

Heading out to Colonial stadium for the first time in over 10 years. Hope I don’t regret it.

Go Dees.

North shortening a fair bit in the betting….hope that doesn’t mean more late outs for us?

Great day for a game of footy but have been feeling a bit apprehensive about this game, hope the boys are all switched on and get a good start. Will be watching from home today and hoping for a good start and better finish than last week, expecting a bit of a step up from our up and comers today.

Dees by 27, Go Dees.

I'm taking my two younger sons today- 12yo and 8yo. They will be part of the guard of honour as the players run out.

There has been a noticeable increase and improvement in communications from the club so far this season. The invitation to be part of the guard of honour is part of this.

Does anyone have news on Mentha and whether he's a chance for a game this year? For a team crying out for small forwards the selection of Culley over George leads me to believe George is a long way off.

Hope the boys have a wonderful time and the Dees get up for them! What a great memory for them

We will find out today in the vfl game.
Here’s hoping we get good signs but not expecting too much just yet.

If there’s any such thing as a creditable loss in the AFL, last week was it ……. BUT there will be no room for faint praise this week.  A win is an absolute must!
Fortunately, we seem to have the tools to beat them, or at least break even, in most parts of the ground.  After an even first half, I expect us to prove the nay sayers wrong, and win emphatically.  Dees by 54.

Awesome to see Spargo back, all the best to him.

It may just mean degenerate gamblers thinking there is value where there probably isn’t.

North would have looked good value for most at $3. Also, there's been a couple of surprising results so far this season

Would surely be on the back of St Kilda’s win.

If we bring the same pressure and contest focus as last week, we should find it easier to score against North’s defence than GWS’.

Hopefully….but May being out last week also caused a shift in the odds the market seems to know these things

The midfield battle will be tough. But today is the day our key forwards must fire. With North's current backline, we must target Roo, Jeffo, Disco and Fritta and they must put the foot down.

I haven't been closely following where he's been training with us this preseason but he played his best footy, by far, off the half back line last year.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
