Half Baked Ideas

Featured Replies

So given we're in a bit of a holding pattern this week with only the 2 games now and the Demons hopefully out of the headlines I thought we should put the Demonland brains trust to use to see if anyone can come up or improve on some half baked ideas (no matter how big or small) to improve the club. The idea is a rip from Bill Simmons pod where he brings on Kevin Wildes to discuss random ideas. It's pretty self explanatory. Feel free to add your own, no bad ideas!

1. Demon Time (bash boost button rip off).

The big bash this year had kids come on the boundary and smash a button when teams took the batting powerplay. Not all that exciting when you've seen it 25 times but nice for the kids who get a great moment. Obviously footy has the auskick kids and the kids running through the banner, but why not make the day for 2 more kids by having them on the boundary at the end of half time?

3rd quarter is always the premiership quarter, so let's just rebrand that demon time. So they smash a light up button, bit of noise, bit of lights and animation on the scoreboard saying 'Demon Time'. Costs next to nothing but it's a great moment for 2 kids.

2. A Tracc MFC tiktok collab.

I know there's probably still some mending of relationships going on here but it remains that Tracc has 390k and the Demons 90k follows. It's frankly embarrassing. We've got a club nutritionist who could go round to Tracc's and cook with him. We've got 45 hungry players and coaches. It seems crazy that we haven't leveraged this additional social media power.

Hawthorn 290k and they turned their entire club in to a freaking tiktok machine that plays footy every now and then, Collingwood 270k by the way. Tracc has them both covered.

3. New run out song.

So we run out to Hells Bells right? Before switching to the grand old flag. And don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool, fits with the demon theme. But sometimes you need to try something different.

I've recently discovered this song: Wolf Totem by Mongolian folk metal band The HU and to me the combination of heavy and traditional instruments and throat singing, it's what we need. The other team aren't messing with wolf totem.

I thought of this idea for a pill that dissolves the poo in your body. So no more number twos. Basically, you’d sweat or wee it out (but there’s no smells).

Love the song...

Make the ground a triangle and have three teams competing at once.

... or even ... 3D footy ... with added Snakes and Ladders

Instead of the swirl-target in the DA behind goal to encourage accuracy, 10 x DA members dress up in bowling pin costumes, arrange themselves behind the goal for set shots and then all fall over dramatically as the ball sails through the middle

Hmm sounds risky - don’t wear your good pants

Patrick Dangerfield would like all 18 teams competing at once, on one day every, say, four years, first goal wins.

I mean this with the utmost respect but he doesn’t strike me as the type that has ‘good’ pants

#3 - a definite winner. Would the opposition dare to run out?

This should be the new run out song!

When you say 'song'...

Highway to Hell would be better than Hells Bells.

HtH would be a great pre-game addition, blaring across the entire MCG and into the half-time space-saver just prior to our notorious third quarter onslaughts, and much better than Port's effort of a thematic that is wearing a little thin after many seasons of  implementation - it would tear them apart!

Reserves team plays before the senior team.

Theme songs and pre/post match interviews are broadcast at a higher volume than the ads.

Multiple balls on the ground during the last five minutes of each quarter.

Membership scarf comes with years of membership printed.

I think a reserves/U19’s/development squad that plays prior to senior home games would get people invested again.

Also gives up and coming players a chance to get into senior systems earlier

Thought this thread was going to be about opening round.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
