Stu 1,073 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Heat is also different in Perth. It gets very hot very early but begins to cool down around 2:30/3 pm. It’s not like Melbourne where the heat peaks at 4/5 pm. By the second half it will be pretty comfortable. 4 2

Why wouldn’t they change the time to either later or earlier. Playing at 2pm in 36 degrees is dangerous 1

But no one will care long-term about the result a few months .... weeks ... down the track. Look how Melbourne and others dropped away last year and Hawthorn and Brisbane had almost perfect 'half-seasons' after worrying starts.
DubDee 26,674 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Playing in the hottest part of the day when no other practice matches are on make perfect sense wtf glad we don’t play next week

leave it to deever 17,618 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 The forward line doesn't look like one to amass over a hundred points. Jvr didn't make the step up I thought he would last year. Fritta went a little backwards and Disco is still unproven. I don't want Petty anywhere near it this year. Sparrow there is a better call than him in the midfield. He's had a long time to prove himself in the centre and hasn't. Billings didn't show anywhere near enough last year. And Chin usually starts off on fire and fizzles out to an ember. So it's probably another year of depending upon our backline to win games for us. I thought Jvr may be the fwd saviour we were looking for but I'm not sure now. Who will kick the most goals for us this year? The floor is open......... 1

Please lift your game. Don’t blame her Neil, she thought it was Jed Adams. 1 1

Supreme_Demon 4,141 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I am sure the Demons membership department would like a win. However, I am just hoping there are no injuries. Getting the team cherry ripe for the Round 1 game against the Giants needs to be the priority.
At the break of Gawn 4,513 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Freo are our kryptonite so I think there's no better team to play to finish our preparation for 2025. It will be a great test for the coaches and players to put into practice some of the tweaks over the off season My first wish for today is no injuries. My second wish is to stay with Freo the whole time and even a win would be nice to show we've closed the gap on Freo. If we get smashed in clearance and lose by 6-7 goals, I feel like we might be heading into a disappointing 2025. 3

If we get smashed in clearance and lose by 6-7 goals, I feel like we might be heading into a disappointing 2025. We have def struggled against freo in the last few seasons, though the timing of the games hasn't helped as most have been just before or just after our mid season bye. I think our biggest challenge against freo is their leg speed. I'll be interested to see how we go on that front today. Improvement in leg speed won't really come from our new draftees or trades though Sharp is, well, pretty Sharp (but so was nibbla). It will come from their training regime - whether they have they had a focus on building leg speed, if yes has it been successful and how fit are they (critical because it's about ability to maintain speed over the whole match). That said, having koz as a mid helps as he we can utilise his speed all over the ground, and the same is probably true of langdon. Anf Windsor at half back means he will be in the game more and be better placed to use his speed to provide defensive cover on turnover (something we struggled with in the back half of last year). I thought Jvr may be the fwd saviour we were looking for but I'm not sure now. Who will kick the most goals for us this year? The floor is open......... Your forward line is only as good as what's happening up the ground. Watching our games we are going to congestion constantly. We kick and hope. Zero space. Teams play to this knowing the forward entry is what it is. We got away with it in 2021 and most of 22 and 23 but still struggled. We were 5th for Points For in 2021. Sixth in 22. Fourth in 23. 14th last year. I just refuse to admit that what we have in the forward line is the problem. Not a coincidence that when we move Petty forward, lose Petracca, underdone Oliver, and a struggling midfield last year that our scores drop off. If we start winning more up the ground like we did in our top 4 years we'll find a way to score. Fritsch is a 60+ goal forward. JVR needs to hit the scoreboard more but couldn't because he was second hitter in the ruck. Losing Jackson set us back so much because we lost a forward as a backup ruck. This explains the obsessive focus on getting another ruck to compliment Gawn (and why I've been such a huge critic of how we handled the Grundy situation). Hopefully Jefferson and Johnson address that issue.
