The risk, of course, is that the bigger players can get run off their feet by smaller, speedier types.

Very wholesome and cute!

I absolutely love it when a kid who barracked for the Demons is lucky enough to play for the AFL Club he supported growing up.

Fingers crossed Jai gets to run out on the MCG sometime this year representing the Melbourne Demons! 🔴🔵👹

May and Oliver are fast. There is a misconception that if you are tall you are cumberson or slow.

Tmac wont get run off his feet by smaller players, infact, i would suggest the opposite.

Height advantage across the ground could be difficult to combat

Now Ghosty dont let me down.... who was his favourite player when he was a kid. Your mission Ghosty is to find out and report back... this tape will self distruct in 5 seconds... good luck Ghosty😁😂🤩

I accept this mission 👍🏽

Meanwhile, care to take a guess? Jai looks about 6yo in the picture so it was probably taken in 2009-2010. Ima guess Jack Watts.

Always extra special when a player ends up at the club they grew up supporting!

And it’s even more special when the club is Melbourne because I reckon there’d be fewer players running around today who barracked for Melbourne as kids as opposed to Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond, Essendon and the interstate sides (the real ones, not the franchises).

Although I'm a little worried that he's lied about his age to recruiters, and he's actually in his 40's.. going by that 80s VFL jumper he's wearing

Very true. Though if school footy days and auskick clinics I've seen in recent years are anything to go by, that might change in years to come.

More like in his 60s going by the decor in the background.

Yeah there’s nothing about that photo that screams 2009.

Every year the sucessful teams try something different and when done effectively the other teams follow.

Our backline is pretty tall  with Lever, May, Petty and T Mac.

We will likely add Langford to the midfield. If Jai plays alongside Langford and Oliver in our midfield we are pretty stacked there as well.

Could be a competetive andvantage.

It has to upset the the opposition if your opponent is bigger than you all the time.

Pace is the biggest thing in the game not necessarily height. If you have both then woopee!!

Let’s not get carried away some players with height aren’t great high marks either.

It has to be Yze, he just hasn't learned how to roll those sleeves up yet😁

Pace is measured by speed over a distance. Kolt who i love and i hope makes it has pace, his GPS speed shows he is lightning fast and hits speeds others can't.

Decision making can't be measured by a a GPS but is far more critical. Quick footy smarts is more important than pace.

Langford and Culley will lose a 20m sprint to Kolt everytime but their reaction time and awareness seems to be greater.

He did mention big Maxy in his interview and I think that's a sound choice both based on talent/player profile as a supporter perspective, but also politically for Jai to nominate his captain.

If you look at the squad we had in 2010, there are some great ones to pick from:

Top of the list for me at that time would probably be Nathan Jones, James McDonald, Aaron  Davey, Brad Green (surprised he didn't mention el presidente for good measure), Liam Jurrah, and Brent Moloney who was a fairly strong performer at the time amd although he was probably not much of a player back in 2010, I always did feel Maxy 37 hinted at that X factor even then.

Then there are the other solid performers of the time:

Jared Rivers, Kyle Cheney, Joel Macdonald (wounder how his business ended up), Cameron Bruce, Austin Wonaeamirri (a personal favourite), Stefan Martin (wish we'd been able to hold onto him), Neville Jetta (another favourite that ended up going the distance), the Russian - Mark Jamar and Chip Frawley

Those that showed potential at some points, but never quite made it big:

Lynden Dunn, Ricky Petterd, Jack Grimes, Colin Garland, Luke Tapscott, Jamie Bennell, Rohan Bail, Jack Fitzpatrick, Jordie McKenzie, Jake Spencer, Addam Maric, Clint Bartram, Jack Watts, Colin Sylvia, Brad Miller, Jack Trengove, Matthew Warnock

Lastly, Jai would have been one of the young fans that had his heart broken by that greedy deceitful $cully.

Here's a good interview that Jai Culley did a couple of years ago before he was taken in the 2022 mid-season draft.

He mentioned in the interview he did with "Into the Fire" on YouTube that he was a Demons supporter/member.

Jai also mentioned that he was doing work with a sprint coach to help his speed during football matches.

I like the fact that he is a booming kick and can easily kick goals from outside 50 metres.

Hope he gets a chance to play in the Demons AFL side sometime this season when he earns a spot.

My guess is Nathan Jones.

I'm an [censored], I thought he was the winner of The Recruit on Foxtel and recruited by the Eagles. But that was Matt Eagles another dreadlocked surfer type, but he was recruited by Brisbane 🤦‍♂️

That kid’s a great interviewer!  He leaves a lot of those so called media experts for dead.

Just wanted to say it's great to see Jai Culley back at MFC training (as shown in recent training photos).

Hope he takes it easy with his foot though.

I would strongly suggest he spends extra time in the gym to keep pumping those muscles.

Would love to see him get a senior AFL debut later in the season for the Demons.

Get well soon Jai! ❤️💙😎👍🏻

An excellent long kick for goal by Jai Culley.

Hopefully he focuses on improving his pace.

Here's your chance Jai! Good luck and all the best at the Melbourne Football Club! ❤️💙

Looking forward to the Demon's media department doing a brief 5 minute interview with Jai over the next day or so.

Jai seems strong in that run-on (with pace) to continue the chain and handball receives in a straight line towards the big sticks, backing-up with a lovely molly-duker for a ripper goal ... just like Leoncelli. Golly, we need a mid who can do that and score.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
