From South Fremantle - a strong 179cm tall midfielder.

”“South Fremantle’s Molly O’Hehir is one of those players with a glass ceiling. For a player of her size and athleticism, it is rare that she can also be a potent user of the ball and do so much damage on-field wherever she plays.”

Kind of sad we didn’t take Zippy Fish because it’s the best name of all time, but we wouldn’t be Melbourne if we didn’t draft the super athletic big bodied mid.

Welcome to Molly!

Zippy Fish is a name for the ages, but it's pretty great to have such an old-school-made-new-again name like Molly running around.

Loved her words in her post-draft interview, to the effect of, "anyone can be a leader no matter their age".

Reading further, she's been playing in the WAFLW for two seasons already, so even though the quality of that competition is perhaps not great (my speculation only), she has been playing against older players for a while already.

Zipporah Zippy Fish. Dad must have been a fan of Kate Fischer (as we all were in the late 80s/90s - changing  her name to Tziporah Malkeh in the aftermath of James Packer marriage break up...)

Excellent choice and as Molly said in her immediate post draft interview  “couldn’t be happier to go to the Dees”

This highlights reel is exceptional.

Kicking 45m+, hitting targets on leads, ball winning ability, clean pick ups of bouncing ball on the run, smart positioning around the contest to be first receiver, followed by power and speed to get away from the contest.

I know it's a highlights reel, not a complete summary, but it's exciting to see just how high the standard is for this draft crop.

It is weird to me how language loses meaning when people pick up a catchphrase or expression without actually knowing the meaning, and then just... use it when it feels good? I guess?

'One of those players with a glass ceiling' must be the weirdest description of a draftee I've ever heard.

I looked at it and thought the same thing. A glass ceiling is a barrier to growth that can't be seen, indicating that O'Hehir has very limited in terms of potential growth. This is, of course, the complete opposite of what was intended.

I'm guessing they meant 'high ceiling' but completely bungled it. Maybe they thought a glass ceiling was even higher than a high ceiling.

A high glass ceiling perhaps

Possibly an autocorrect trip, or the writer was using Grammarly so it just assumed everything was middle-manager-speak?

She is fantastic. Love the loyalty comment at the end of the vid.
Also an interesting comment from Todd Patterson about her, “one of the most compelling personality profiles I've come across in my time doing it”

A lot of talk on the other side of the board about the club's social media efforts and the improved content of late. Great to see it carried through for both sets of draftees.

Molly handled it all really well. Plus it showed what we already know about the quality of our coaches and leaders. The welcome by the players at the end of the night was a random end to a bit of whirlwind!

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
