Got to give him a month.

Give the lad some confidence.

Nobody gets a month given to you. Needs to compete hard and play a role and go from there

l think some are making the mistake of seeing Fullarton as JVRs replacement.

So JVRs role is as the big forward and the lesser role as the back up. Petty is the replacement for the former while Fullarton is the replacement for the later. He is also the Fritch replacement.

Our main targets going forward todsy were Petty, Melksham and Kozzie.

I thought he showed us a bit today. He wasn't amazing by any means, but he had a hard role, basically warming the bench for Max with some time spent forward here and there. He got in good positions, took a couple of good marks and had some absolutely terrible kicks flying at him when he was deep forward that killed any chance of him actually scoring. One absolute shank that should have been a goal. He wasn't outstanding, but he played his role, broke even with some really good defenders and held up in the ruck. I think he did enough to earn another week.

He'll get a month if he does what he did yesterday.

He will get better, won't be as nervous as yesterday and grow into his performances.

Got to consider the human element of his 1st run for the year.

How good was Max with him in the side yesterday? Getting proper rest periods in, and a decent 2nd ruck actually showing ruck craft taping to our mids.

That was absolutely Max's best game for ages, which is saying something.

I thought Fullarton was good, did his job. Not everyone in the team is going to be Kozzy, you need role players and he certainly played his. Wish him all the best going forward.

If everyone in the team was Kozzie we wouldn't lose a game for 8 years.

Especially if we want to persevere with a proper 2nd ruck ... Tom stays in the side

And it wasn't so much Tom's contribution yesterday, it was more about being able to manage Max in terms of Max being at his max when we needed him most

Previously, this season, there's have been comments that Gawn was looking a bit tired and listless. Yesterday, he dominated and looked fresh throughout

But Tom held his ground when rucking and when up forward. And you'd reckon he'll get better at it too

I thought Tom Fullarton played his role.

Hopefully, he can begin impacting the score board with a few goals.

But I think he definitely helps in the ruck giving a nice chop out for Max Gawn.

Um no not better than jeffo, who um kicked 2 in his first game!!! How many did Fullo kick again??? But agree, played a role!

How many did Jefferson kick in the reserves yesterday? Has he ever kick 5 in a game? Obviously the FD did not think much of Jefferson . Back from injury only 2 games out and back into the reserves.

Please do u homework old dee....a bag of 5 and two bags of 4 in 2024. I maintain a BETTER player than Fullo, but on yesterdays performance needs to do more. HAS the tools but was poor yesterday but NOT helped by throwing him behind the ball to defence at stages yesterday. As iterated not great for his confidence IMO

Jefferson should plead for a go in the ruck plus a chance to play up the ground. If Petty becomes a full time forward Jefferson will always be behind JVR and/or Fullarton.

I don't think he is better than Fullarton. Imo Fullarton can play 2nd ruck as he did yesterday. Jefferson forward only. I think the guy with the most potential is Kentland. With little PS he is behind the rest. I look forward to how is playing in July.

Well said, mate. Listening to Gawn post match on 3AW, it sounded a lot like he was happy with Fullarton’s debut and appreciated the assistance he got in the ruck.

Nobody rated that dumb American and said dumb American nearly got the Pies into a GF off his own boot.

Not saying Fullarton will become a world beater, but if he gets a decent go at it and can become half as good as someone like Darcy Cameron, who I think gets underrated year in, year out, then we would be pretty happy I’d reckon.

If he does come into his own and becomes a solid contributor, it could release a lot of pressure on JVR.

If you haven't watched Jeff farmer's jumper presentation speech I highly recommend it. Absolute legend and his love for the club shines through. It's a pity his kid wasn't quite at the level.

I see what you mean but JVR is undersized to be a big forwad in the modern game.

You must be kidding. Fullerton did very little and was beaten at 2 ruck contests by Oscar McD.

He gets another chance but really showed nothing.

Why when we have almost no KPF's was Jefferson not bought in from injury? He was played at Casey for little return greatly over rated. Our future is somewhere else its not the current three.

He may get another chance CF, but if the idea is that two "pure rucks" helps Max excel then Campbell is a better option in my opinion, once he is fit again. Interesting that Campbell was rested from Casey on Saturday - hope his hamstring has recovered fully.

Tom was no world beater but I thought he played his role well and gave Max a chop out and set up that goal for Chandler, you can only beat who you are playing on. He deserves a second game and who knows.

An Excellent presentation, still has a huge fondness for the DEMONs your opportunity now Go For It

I still think Tom is a ways off being a week in week out competent second ruck. I thought he worked hard in this game and did position himself nicely at times, it was an adequate performance and for this he should get another week for sure.

We need to see a bit more but I'm willing to give him that chance.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
