I'd probably agree. Judd is the closest thing we have to Quaynor IMO.

Not the way he played this year!

Judd had a poor year!

I'm going on his 2023-2024, non-injury exposed for. He's a gun and people can downplay it as much as they like, but he's a loss.

Not to say we can't replace him though. Let's hope so.

We are gonna lose Trac and Judd for very little and get Heath Derksen and Mihocek aren’t we, I’ll spew

What pi$$e$ me off is that he has told an absolute whopper of a lie to one of our most committed and loyal supporters. Not because she posts on a fan forum, but because she clearly has a level of care for him which blind Freddy could see, yet he still saw no problem lying through his teeth with that he has signed and wait for the announcement.

Don’t want him to stay now, he has done his dash. If it was me he lied to, I’d happily pack his bags, take him to the terminal and tell him to PO at the gate as he gets on the plane.

@Ghostwriter might be a tad more forgiving I suspect.

I agree with some he was always going… I could tell with the way he played his season out. Like a spud…! I would have dropped him to Casey.

I want and expect Melbourne to demand at a minimum Pick 11 or Freos 1st Pick next year… If Freo don’t come to play I would be prepared to let Eagles take him in the Preseason draft.

Freo play hard when trading out their own players. Remember Weller to GC for Pick 2 (Brayshaw)…? They were overly demanding.

Spewing with his decision. He’s the right age bracket and skill set of players we need more of so losing him hurts us.

No chance we get pick 13 but hoping we get more than just pick 29. We will have a decent hand of second round picks and might be able to get GC to part with pick 6.

That’s actually not a bad option, if we get enough and GC do want to get a pile of seconds and thirds we might be well placed.

Mines better. You should join the cult of Abbath! Many a great profile he has given us.

Not sure he wants to be a midfielder. He wants to play an attacking role. Doesn’t want to defend hard. Doesn’t want to play last line of defense.

It actually annoys me how hard Howes had to work to get senior games down back this year, while McVee had such a poor year and was never once dropped.

I’d care if Judd on his worst day wasn’t twice the player of Howes on his best day. If Howes could actually play like a proper footballer rather than a deer in the headlights that would fill some of the void Judd leaves but I doubt it.

you lost me at “according to Caro” . I stopped listening to her after the tanking fiasco … as she has her own agendas. A lot of “in the know” posters here say he’s staying. Let’s see.

Caro was right eh?

Well you have already said that he's signed and yet not one announcement anywhere and that while contract talks are still ongoing,he's not telling you what he is doing

You know what Judd tells me, do you? LOL.

Just because I don’t share some conversations on here doesn’t mean they don’t take place.

When I read this its clear Judd and his management clearly attempted to use the club as leverage.

They also kept this incredibly private.

Wow, so much outrage for a guy who even if he played all 23 games wouldn't have finished top 10 or top 15 in our BnF this year.

Let him go to Freo. I would be surprised if he starts in their 22 by round 1. He's not a dashing half back, his decision making is too slow as a midfielder, and as a small defender I've seen him be toweled up by Rankine and Higgins far too many times

See ya Judd.

Well I’ve got tickets for January sooo……

The problem isn’t players asking to leave. The problem is the clubs getting locked into one trading partner. If Judd had any care for MFC he would allow us to deal with WC and Freo to extract the best deal possible for us. If this is truly about “going home” then there’s two teams there.

All this talk about fans “growing up” and being more “professional” with player movement but then the players pick one club and hold their own club to ransom to get there no matter how bad the deal. If a player asks for a trade the club should be able to send them wherever they get the best deal. That would be the league “growing up and being professional”, this is a farce.

I would be less angry if he just responded to fans and others: Don't know what will happen at the end of the year; homesick at times.

Would be disappointed, he would always be a fave ala Hunt and I would wish him well.

Clearly, I don't deal well with deception!!!

No one wanted to go to the lions a decade ago now they have won back to back with a 3 peat possibly , players requesting trades to them!

Our club needs to become this or we will never attract any one decent

McVee. Disappointing but not the end of the world. For a player we picked when everyone else passed (WA clubs chose 10 players before we took him in 2021) and developed into a quality role player. To repay the club by demanding the role you want to play and by the looks of it taking them for a ride all year with little intent but to return home is poor. His small runs in a higher productive half back and midfield role did not show me he is a given to be better than the quality stopper with good skills he had shown. Lets do our best to maximise the return and move on.

Thanks to those who shared information throughout the year on how this was progressing. Always appreciated even though its never fact and over until the contract is signed or the trade period closed.

Lions are the only team in Brisbane and one of only two teams in QLD. We will always be in competition with 9 other teams pushing up deals and making us pay a premium. Especially that mob that gives players farms, cars and cotton on deals outside the cap. Us being a destination club is so much harder than Brisbane.

Ok but you guys realise this is not always simply about a player wanting to go home though right?

It's a player getting offered a better role, money, years, whatever it is and pursuing that opportunity. The fact that Judd is from WA means that Fremantle gets considered and it becomes a narrative of "he's homesick, he wants to go home" when that isn't the case.

It's not a Jackson situation where he wants back in WA. It's he specifically wants to play at Fremantle. If they weren't interested he wouldn't still be going back to WA.

No loyalty to the club that took a punt on him as a rookie and developed to play at an AFL level. Disappointing result.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
