Andy Moniz-Wakefield is a Cat A-Rookie.

We have one Cat-B Rookie Spot.

About time we kept things close to our chests (hidden intents).

That's a bit harsh on the kid, we could've at least got him a cabin.

That would explain not going for Riak Andrew with a bid

No it doesn't if we bid on Andrew he would have been on the senior list. Johnson is more regarded than him at Melbourne.

The original report (sorry forgot who it was) said permission to train, nothing about him actually getting a spot.

If the afl are serious about increasing indigenous numbers they should allow it regardless of spot.

Anyway, hope he can train, but even if we did have a spot I wouldn’t imagine he’s a lock. Looked super classy with the ball at Casey but didn’t do much without it.

That’s what you go to an AFL Club to learn. 18/20 yo’s are not the full product.

We put the training and playing habits into raw talented or potentially talented prospects.

Might get D/L ers off Frittas back if he succeeds.

I'm not getting too far ahead of myself with regards to having him on the list.

The 'paperwork' referred to may just be insurance paperwork to allow him to participate in training.

But seriously any other info on him?

Thanks for the info so far…

Kozzi type small fwd?

NTFL on Youtube

Southern Districts is his local team up in Darwin.

Looks very much like there's been some miscommunication about George's status. The likely scenario is that he's on the Casey list and just as in the past, can train with us but I have strong doubts that we can simply include him on our list as a Category B rookie under current rules.

The next Aaron Davey????

He has ability and pace. What is more interesting to me is that he has Davey's smarts, deceptive moves and an ability to mess up the thoughts of opponents and defenders with agility and immediate assessments of place and opportunities upfield.

This guy played a few games for Casey last year so we were well aware of his talent.

It seems odd that if we wanted him we didn't keep a list spot.

I would guess a talented, small fwd with X factor would be a more valuable A-Rookie than some others we have.

Footnote:  we have a B-Rookie spot available but he isn't eligible.

Talents never been an issue for Roy, he's an excitement machine. Let's see how he settles into AFL standards, hopefully he's ready to give it his all and take the opportunity.

Yes agree. Talent was on show.  It’s how he can fit into the demands of footy at a higher level.  It’s not all just enjoying games with your mates.  Although it should be. Hopefully Dees can uncover another excitement machine … “Royball” !!!

I think it’s indicative of our interest really.

So for 2024 it would just be injury replacement through SSP?

Yes, a LTI based SSP is our only option for a list spot.  Final SSP recruiting is Feb.

If there is a LTI between then and MSD (May/June) we would have a list spot.  But teams below us on the ladder could draft him, should he enter.

Otherwise, 2025/2026 SSP next year if everyone is prepared to wait.

That sidestep of his is something special.  He's going to break some ankles.

Nearly as good as the ordinary sidesteps that Stanley Alves used to do. Not yet up to Stan's standard on the really good ones but then, no-one ever was and never will be able to do what Stan did...

Pickett’s uncle to train with Dees amid AFL interest

Confirmation in the Herald Sun that Kozzy Pickett’s uncle Roy George will train with us despite us not having a list spot and him not being eligible to join as a category B rookie.

The club is “open minded” about giving him a list spot if a long term injury occurs over preseason.

There was at some stage a suggestion that Shane McAdam may decide to retire.   Haven’t heard anything about that for a while.

Not saying that he should, but IF he did then I would hope it wouldn’t be anything like Angus’ forced retirement after list finalisation.

News of McAdam’s retirement was a bit like the news that Uncle Roy is Cat B eligible or that Mark Twain had died when he had not - all greatly exaggerated!

Who does Twain play for and what’s his position?

Too bad he can't slot in for Koz everytime he is suspended for multiple weeks after a player slides in to take out his legs (still fuming a bit from last season)

Hope we can keep him with the club somehow.

He's great to watch.

Mark Twains not dead?!

“Unlike fellow indigenous talent and Demons newcomer Ricky Mentha, he is not eligible to join Melbourne as a Category B rookie.

“The Demons do not have a vacancy on their list so officially they are not auditioning him as summer rookie despite his obvious ability.”

Pickett’s uncle to train with Dees amid AFL interest

If other clubs that he could train with for an SSP spot are interested it is a good sign he is training with us instead.

Perhaps we expect a spot to come up or he will forgo the SSP and MSD and wait to join us via next year's SSP.  Wishful thinking ... ?

But other clubs could offer him an SSP contract before the Feb cut off date without he training with them.

I wonder if he is part of a 'keep Kozzie at the Dees' campaign ...

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
