No offence to anyone but so many here were sold on other options. I'd trust the club's judgement overall so hopefully Henderson turns out brilliantly. Welcome aboard

Does anybody know who the second player Jason Taylor was referring to in their briefing?

Aidan Johnson and Henderson were the two they were talking about.

Henderson would’ve been picked at our last selection if we got a tall (Tauru) instead of one of Langford/Lindsay. But they went with Johnson because they selected the two mids first up.

Worked out in the end👍🏼

Good luck Jack,    But it’s not going to be easy.

some here get carried away, if our man Jack is going to be a walk up start best 22 replacing “anyone”.
Then he would have been picked in the draft or signed by the eagles with an incentive to stay rather than come home.

I do think the highlights package is impressive. But that’s in a lower grade of football .
I hope he takes his chances to show that his ceiling is somewhat higher .

you can never have enough Jacks !

Some have said. he will be in the Round 1 team.  But skills aside, will he learn enough of our game plan etc in the few weeks remaining?

So we gave a future 2nd round pick for McAdam. Got that pick back from the Crows for ANB and now bring in a player in via SSP to replace both McAdam and ANB.
Strange the way things work out sometimes.

If we have to drop Henderson, it's gonna be tough to watch

It might be good to have someone that hasn't learnt our game plan from the last 2-3 years!

jokes but seriously...get and bomb it long to no-one?

Ah... I thought the video was new. I didn't realise it was from the draft.

I think a smart person can learn in that time.

However, let’s keep in mind that we will have 23 players learning a new gameplan in 2025…

Congratulations to Jack Henderson getting a chance at the Demons.

His former Werribee Premiership teammate in Aidan Johnson will be incredibly excited to have him join us here at the Melbourne Football Club.

Jack Henderson definitely reminds me a bit of Tom Papley from the Swans. Especially the way he moves.

Good luck to him and I hope he grabs this opportunity to play AFL at the Demons!

I hope he can be as annoying to swans supporters as that little [censored] papley has been to us.

We lost by 7 points in the end. Laurie playing nearly 3 full quarters had 1 kick, 4  handballs, 1 clanger and 2 tackles.

There were so many little things that could have happened for us to win that game and our path could have been very different.

This isnt me bagging Laurie. It was the selection decision. Laurie had only played a few games that year and had no consistency.

All spilt milk in the end.

100% agree on the Carlton game.

Super happy we got Henderson. He looks a similar player to Chandler based on highlights. Hoping he gets a crack early.

Not so much from this game, but all the talk about young Laurie being g a player going forward, I just don't see it.  Doesn't seem to have an aggressive bone in his body.  Hope I'm wrong.

Good to see we have gone back to the old way to pick recruits.

Step 1 is the kid called Jack

Step 2...............  job done

Good luck Jack.

The big clue is the very start of the video where the text says “Monday 18 November”!

I’d love to get some more goals out of our small forwards not named Kozzie - so I reckon Jack would be a great get

Hopefully he’s available at our last pick 🙏

Might team up well with Chin in the penalised absence of Kozzie - the leading and support players must defend these two at the drop of the hanky when opportunities arise.

Calmly and methodically??? Like not notifying supporters of a change in start time of a preseason game even days after the time had changed. The website’s long been a joke.

Wrong again It has been done overnight to my knowledge and may have been mooted prior but no decision (rom the organisers as such.

BTW who do you think you are demanding training reports just when you want them. Your brazen threats are simply that and I don’t

I don't think we've had much luck in "top up" and mid season draft type players. I don't recall many successes.

Will need to be a more rounded forward than Chandler.

From info here he seems to be a very confident ball handler with quick and good decision making. Finishes well and from 50m out on occasions. Could well go to another level in an AFL environment. Also a bit like Nibla is a determined opponent who can tag if required.

Yes, tragically for some on here and their training reports, we can play with only 23 players at a time…

Ghostwriter was already onto it on Monday:

NOTE: Due to expected extreme weather there’s a change to start time of the practice match vs North at Arden St this Saturday February 22nd. The match is now scheduled to start at 10am

This is going to sound negative. I don't mean it to be. I saw the video of Taylor and Lamb talking about Henderson with Goodwin and others and their comments were glowing. Now, I know a club isn't going to release footage of football department members bagging newly recruited players, but I'm still intrigued:

What's the knock on him? Why isn't a player considered to have outstanding ball-handling skills, an ability to kick goals (from long-range as well as close to goal) and excellent movement and fitness not already on a list?

There’s plenty of skilled VFL players who don’t make it onto AFL lists. The reasons are numerous but my guess with Henderson is he’s a bit small to be a modern mid and doesn’t have any standout traits to be seen as a small forward. He does however have the work rate, the clean hands and the 50m drop punt which just might get him a game on our list. Remember he’s currently behind Pickett, Chandler and Spargo so he’s got his work cut out.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
