I just don't whinge incessantly without backing it up. SWYL usual input to any topic  is 1 or two lines of whiny negativity.

It's tiresome.

Was I happy with how the year went, definitely not.

Did I discuss it face to face with some in the Club at the B&F last night, sure did, never one to hide behind a nickname on a forum.

Do I want to see improvement this year, hopefully yes.

Do I believe the [censored] pushed by journalists and pundits, definitely not.

Do I think some of the young kids at the club are going to lead the way, after speaking to some last night, definitely.

Good to see you back Saty!

The majority of your posts are complaining about what posters post on here

Contributing very little

Whinging quite a lot

Can you not see the irony?

Wrong, I ask them to back up their opinion, which they are entitled to, but most don't as they find it easier to incessantly whine, demanding others follow their opinion, because that is the only one that is right.

If other posters disagree they are told they are delusional, looking through rose coloured glasses etc.

Forums are for discussion, except for Demonland of course, home of the disgruntled supporter who craves agreement to their opinion

Opinion which is usually based on what some highly paid click baiter has written, and we must agree mustn't we, don't want to be seen as a nuffy.

That was the bit that made me think maybe the all the talk about is terrible culture is BS,  as Ben Brown doesn't strike me as the sort of guy would want to stay if he thought our culture sucked.

Without jumping to any other conclusions, Ben stated that he was particularly attracted to the strong culture of our AFLW team. I can testify to that, and it no doubt that stems from the continuity provided by Mick Stinear (who Ben praised) and the list management of Todd Paterson - both having been in their roles from the foundation of our women's team.

I respect your opinions and stoic defence of the club but what puzzles me you mostly only appear here when there is turbulence at the club like the old dark days and the now. I don’t recall you posting here at all during our premiership year and very rarely up until this disastrous season started falling apart. Why is it that you went missing in our greatest season for 6 decades?

Not at all, I thought that he was realistic, realises that there is a lot of work to do to get back in contention and urged the players to love the process required to put themselves into a position to contend. Overstated process a bit for mine, Gus described the grind and hard work required as enjoyable a little more eloquently than Goody but Gus is a brilliant wordsmith.❤️💙😁

I can see how people could interpret the content of his speech in a few different ways, and tbh, the content was the least of my concerns.
If ever there was a time to not have a number of crownies before making the most important speech in his time at the Club, it was then.  Might seem old fashioned, but I also believe it was the time to shave, to not go with the trendy 3 day growth.
I’d be rather confident that Sam Mitchell, McRae & Fagan won’t be slurring their words during their speeches.
Was the absolute occasion where he had to take the totally conservative & professional leader type approach, and unfortunately he didn’t.

Yes it is a fact that we finised 14th and we must accept that, but the point I was making that focussing negatively on the number 14 may not be reflective of the actual situation.  Feel free to feel as miserable as you like about things. Each to their own.

Your wasting your breath there sue, I’d not bother

Agree wholeheartedly and made the exact same comment last night when I was tuning in live.

His was slurring his speech. Some said it was nerves but it wasn't. I've seen him nervous at a press conference and it was nothing like last night.

His introduction of Max Gawn as runner up was just plain weird and bizarre. Some odd pauses and not even a mention of a well deserved recognition for a 7th All Australian jumper.

Yep, either clueless, or very stressed/nervous/anxious and needed a coping mechanism. The players seem to love Goody. Just hope it’s for the right reasons.

I can tell you, that very question of, “why do the players love Goody so much” is definitely included in the review.

Succinctly, I got  bored s******s with the constant negativity and the same bullying minority who demanded everybody agree with them

Unfortunately they still rule the forum to an extent, but I was asked by a few supporters and posters in person, as I don't feel the need to hide, to post again.

I started on this topic as I knew the bullies would be out in force sniping at anything they could about the B&F.

The disgusting comments about Goody supposedly slurring words, didn't seem that way live or the good conversation I had with him.

I think a lot of the negativity these days comes from the team on match days spoiling a 'supporter's multi.

The last two pages of this thread have [censored] me off for a number of reasons. I agree that it's pathetic to hang [censored] on the club at every opportunity but it's also pathetic to get on your high horse and tell someone that they're not a supporter when they critique the club's performances. We've seen the worst of these two extremes in this thread alone.

Fwiw, the vast majority of my posts are positive but this is a football forum ffs.

Agree.

407 is the lowest winner’s vote count, excluding the shorter 2020 season, since 2016 when, funnily enough, Viney won with 407.

We played finals the previous three seasons but the winner each year polled 600+ (in 2022 Clarry won with 608 and just one extra game played, given the additional H&A game this year).

Amazing to think that Clarry scored 608 votes while competing against the likes of Tracc.

I know of a premiership coach (within the last decade) who shared privately (not to me, admittedly) that he was astonished Goody had kept his job, something along the lines of ‘he’s just too close to his players’… whilst he didn’t elaborate, the feeling was he was saying ‘fun guy’ who doesn’t know the line between coach/boss and friend.

Separately, I have heard from a player (directly) that goody is only the ‘much-loved coach’ to select players. If you’re a fringe player, you’re probably not one of goody’s ‘favs’ and you also then end up on the outer socially with him.

I believe he said “we don’t boo at Collingwood” when the crowd started booing in response to another club being mentioned

The much publicised booing of Horne-Francis originated from an early season 2023 game between Collingwood and Port at the MCG.

A couple of random Collingwood supporters at the Filth goal end booed him for absolutely no reason and it took off from there. I was at the game and remember asking myself why the heck were they booing a player that had absolutely nothing to with the Pies, but all to do with his departure from North.

That’s a BS claim from McRae.

I don’t see the irony. The man is trying to change the culture of a fanbase. That’s admirable. Don’t think he’ll be successful though, that fan base has been full of bad eggs forever.

Agree.
Reckon he finds the disrespectful behaviour of their supporter base distasteful.
Which it is.
But he won't change it.

I felt the same when I watched it too but on reflection I think it was more a comment intended to educate/curb their future actions than it was a misguided belief of how they actually act.

Come to think of it I guess it all comes down to whether you are pro Simon Goodwin or anti Simon Goodwin, it’s very easy to find fault when you dislike someone, even the old gossip snippets you only hear the damaging ones trotted out to support your stance.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
