Cameron Bruce , a longtime friend of Brad Green would make a suitable right hand man for Goody.Bruce has great experience as a coach.

The article is insightful as it flies in the face of what some supporters would like to see us play - entertaining, Hollywood type football. He argues this type of game plan will not win you a Grand Final. "Sydney are so talented but not hard to play against"

Since his retirement in may, spent the remainder of the year helping out coaching. If he wished to make this his future could easily have had the time to complete the minimum certificates in coaching to get in. 

Highly admired him as a player, if he can instil his on field values into any of our players it would be great for the club.
 

Always wondered about the ‘what if’ when we told him we’d take him in the draft if available but couldn’t pass up Jamie Bennell when he was still an option. 

found a lengthy interview from his retirement with 7 news way back when he retired where he states that his house in Adelaide would probably cost 4 times as much in Melbourne so i speculate he’d want a proper job and not just a toe in the water role.

Apparently our recruiting team went over to Mr and Mrs Sloane's house and promised them that we'd pick him up at pick 17 or 19 depending on how the draft board was looking.

Sam Blease, James Strauss, Jamie Bennell and 27 picks later and Sloane was drafted interstate.

I don't know how true that is, but we did not do football good in the late 2000's.

Yep.

It takes a special recruiting team to pick up all of Scully, Trengove, Gysberts and Tapscott before Fyfe.

Luckily they did select Gawn in the 30's which totally redeemed the above, and probably represent the best value pick of all time behind Hird and Chris Grant.

He can argue all he wants on a contested game style or being hard to play against however times change and Brisbane played an entertaining game style with lightening speed mixed with contested football which would have beaten most, if not all teams last Saturday. Regardless of game style, be it contested or fast-paced, foot skills and decision making is a key component to winning and Brisbane have that in spades.

Great player and should be a good coach. Not sure why we’re talking about Roos, but bringing maximum effort is obviously a non-negotiable - which we did not do this year.
Not turning the ball over is another.

If we can do those 2 things, we’ll get somewhere.

It was later scientifically proven that Sam Blease was the worst top 20 draft pick in the history of any sport. Ever.

Jamie was pick 35 and played 87 games of AFL, more than most at that pick.  Rory was pick 44. Just about every club had a couple of picks before he was selected. Were all those clubs pathetic?

Very true - the knock on Brisbane was that despite their elite skills and transition game they didn’t apply enough pressure around the ball and their defensive structure wouldn’t hold up when teams got on top of them in the contest 

In the last couple of years they’ve managed to address both of these issues while retaining their elite skills and ability to transition the ball, and that’s why they’re now the reigning premiers  

The fact is that while we might be able to be the best contest and defence team, we’re going to continue to find it difficult to score and transition the ball while we have (relatively) unskilled players as our major ball winners 

I don’t envy Goody and the coaching staff this off season that’s for sure

True, but the beef most people have is that we told Sloane that we would draft him.

Sloane was a much better youngster than Blease and Strauss.  It was obvious in the draft year.  It was sadly obvious from year 1.  It should have been Sloane. It was bizarre to miss on him.  One of Prendergast’s many many many mistakes.

Happy for the Demons to recruit good quality football people.

I definitely think Rory Sloane could bring a wealth of knowledge to help our players.

Unless we make some tough decisions with number 13 and number 5.

A broken leg wrote off most of his first year.

Beyond that, btw, Rising Star nominee twice, capable of a 5-goal game, but when Roos was Mr Defence First, then, one of the early head-knock retirees.

Shae is assistant coach at present. Also works for the club. Forging her own career - nothing to do with Rory.

Cool, so Goody wants one of his mates to come aboard. No coaching experience? Who cares, they can figure it out. The important thing is Goody and Sloane have lots of shared learnings to get nostalgic about  

Oh and number one defender of “the camp”. Keep him away. 

I reckon that anyone with a good footy brain who Goody wants onboard should be given serious consideration. Yeah, get him in.
