Just think when we were down by 19 points at 3 quarter time. Many (myself included) thought it was over and we’d blown our chance. Had we lost that game our drought would now be 60 years. Only 3 other teams  have gone that long (Sydney, St Kilda and Footscray.) We didn’t get another crack at it and our premiership window may be closed now. That was our one chance to win a flag and we did it.
Be always thankful for that.

Our 3rd quarter burst was the purest football I've ever seen. 3 goals in 47 seconds to end the quarter. We were away from home for 70 + days. Its the hardest premiership ever won.
I will never get tired of the replay.

3 goals in a minute to start the avalanche too

100-7 after trailing by 19 halfway through the 3rd. I can't imagine an onslaught like that being repeated, it was like the 84 Bombers on steroids

i feel sorry for people who can't enjoy our flag and feel the need to devalue the achievement

It’s the only football game I’ll watch for the foreseeable future

Most dominant finals series in the history of the game and the most dominant 50 minutes of grand final football in the history of the game.

No matter what way you look at it, you can't tell me the horse is a camel.

As a true 57er, will never ever underrate one of the greatest days of my life. The greatest 40 minutes of football - ever!

I’ve got a bombers mate who’s adamant the Dogs were unlucky not to win it. I still can’t understand his logic after a dozen tries. Something about Fritsch’s second goal being lucky and an unplayed free kick prior to Brayshaw’s goal. 😂

From halfway through the third quarter until the end of the game was the best, purest most exciting football I have ever seen.

I will dissent. Although that premiership was a magical moment and hard earned in its own way. It wasn’t under the pressure of the MCG and all that comes with a traditional finals series. For which I’d argue we’ve shown deficiencies.

We need to win it at the G. And we will.

I agree mate.

It was both one of the best and saddest days I've had.

Obviously very thankful and grateful it happened and I was well and healthy to see it (on the box...in lockdown), but not being able to have the week - the special, quintessential Melbourne week - that I've seen others have just sucked.

I just want that week - that the pies had, the tigers x2, the dogs, so many cats fans, so many older Hawks fans - and to attend the game with my brother in the flesh.

The MFC had the third best finals series in the AFL era from an accumulated margin perspective behind Essendon in 2000 and Geelong in 2007. For that we should be so proud of the boys.

As for the criticism that we won it in a COVID year, I think people mix up 2020 with 2021, whereby 2020 was a shortened year and had those Mickey Mouse 15 minute quarters. 2021 was a genuine 22 game season with normal length quarters.

Such a pity that 30,000 odd Melbourne club, AFL and MCC members missed out on a September to remember but it’s pointless sooking it about these days.

I think it was Williams that dropped a sitter and Fritsch turn and kicked an easy goal and probably the free kick was Pickett tackled Daniel really hard near boundary line. It may of been interpreted in the back but wasn't called. Tell your mate he's the unlucky one, they've got Stringer in their team 🤭

The Bombers on steroids…now that’s an idea to conjure with.

Yeah I find it really stupid when people put the covid tag next to the '21 flag. Port Adelaide and Brisbane were gifted home finals while we had to travel to Adelaide and Perth despite finishing on top of the ladder. If anything, I think that alone made our premiership much more impressive.

I've been as frustrated as hell by our performance since the flag but we were clearly the best team in '21 whichever way you look at it.

The criticism isn't always about shortened quarters...it's also about doing it away from the cauldron of the MCG and without the distraction and pressure that the normal week brings.

Even though we absolutely [censored] it in, I do wonder whether we would have got it done at the G. We'll never know but there's enough fragility about this group to suggest to me the forced relocation and togetherness was actually an advantage rather than a hurdle.

All the finals were played on neutral venues, 22 round season, if anything it was the most even a competition could be.

2020 was the outlier, 17 games, shorter 18 minute qtrs, games every 4 days it was a mess.

That was the asterics year.

The end of that 3rd quarter was mind blowing football.

You'll never see a minute of football like that again.

I was one of the lucky ones that saw greatness in the flesh.

Not sure how anyone could underrate that win. If not for the result but it was the attacking intent that we played with on that day. Another reason I keep watching replays of that game. Would love to see more of that on a regular basis.

It was Weightman, grabbed Pickett’s arm and tried to milk a high contact/holding the man free - correctly not paid to the little con artist

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

  • PREGAME: Geelong

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
