  • Demonland changed the title to 5 Young Dees Re-Sign

Looks like they all signed 1 year deals. Happy to give all of them 1 more year. Makes sense to me. All five of them are young and have a bit of 'project player' about them.

Gives us stacks of list flexibility if we suck in 2025 and need to rebuild at the end of next year.

MELBOURNE has locked in a quintet of young talent, with Andy Moniz-Wakefield, Kynan Brown, Will Verrall, Oliver Sestan and Luker Kentfield all signing new deals with the club.

The five players put pen to paper this week, extending their time in the red and blue until at least the end of 2025.

Great news Daz thanks for sharing

Surprised to see Sestan given another year.  Gradual improvement and is smart around goals.  But hard to see where he fits in. Had 3-4 good games but went missing in another 8-9 games.  Injured across 5-6 for the year.  Have to back in the club who sees him as one of those project players !!!

I really hope Kentfield develops. Has some serious mongrel about him

this was the first year that sestan has been given significant game time in the middle at vfl level - he deserves at least a full year to get up to the required fitness levels to go from a deep forward to a midfielder

from watching a lot of the casey streams in the last few years, what's clear is that the talent and skill is there but the tank and the consistency needs significant improvement

i'm confident that sestan has attributes to compete at afl level - i see him as similar to a player like harmes who was far fitter yet still took his time to establish himself in a significantly poorer side, first as a forward who could play a bit as a mid, then as a tagger, then eventually as a second rotation mid in his own right

Needs to get AFL fit.

If he can/does I think he has the tools to make it.

An excellent kick, but simply does not have the tank to get enough of the pill.

He has a pretty good attitude so I expect he’ll take this opportunity to continue his physical evolution.

His ability to find the footy needs to improve along with his fitness. He’ll never be prolific but getting involved in more strings of play would help him and Casey/Melbourne as he is pretty good with ball in hand.

Yeah but so did Tappscott

Kynan Brown looked good in the 4 seconds we were able to see him at level.

kynan will make it. he got that dog in him and some talent. just needs a tank.

I agree, Kynan will make it, but he has some things to work on. He was careless with disposal in the latter rounds at Casey this year leading to some silly turnovers. He gets the ball, and that's a big plus. Also tackles hard!

Does Sestan have any leg speed? We need more players who can kick and can spread.

Huge news for Casey!

Verrall’s worth more time. Sestan and AMW have talent but I’d have been in no rush to sign them, if they can’t improve their running they won’t make it.

So you mean AMW was gifted AFL games this year?

All of heard about Sestan is “he’ll be great when he gets the tank” How long does that take?

When you’re coming off no base, a while.
He might not make it, but if the club has seen improvements, which you presume they have, then that’s a good sign.
He surely knows he has to show something in 2025 or it’s the end of the road.

I'd rather these 5 getting extended for a year than Hunter, Hore and JS.

Is Jed Adams still under contract?

Yes. Fun first half in Brisbane but after that it was clear he’s a mile off

Good luck young men. Congratulations on the extensions!

I believe we can keep AMW as a cat B for 1 more season if he agrees?

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
