You'd imagine that Cerra is on good coin so his trade value is diminished even further. I wouldn't even entertain a future 1st for him.

When he’s not injured he’s a bit slow and the skills aren’t quite silky enough to make up for it. He’d provide our midfield some much needed balance but there’s a pace problem.

You’d be mad to give more than an early second. And unless Carlton heavily front loaded the contract he’ll be overpaid.

That said, he’s only the second midfielder behind Peatling that makes any sense as a genuine target and not just a bargain depth buy.

"Carlton secured Cerra on a four-year deal on what would be considered a bargain in terms of salary. Sources familiar with the contract said the Blues are paying Cerra less than $600,000 per year over the term of the deal, significantly less than the $700,000-plus that Fremantle had been willing to pay for him to remain at the Dockers."

Cripps chat turns birthday boy Cerra into a Blue on bargain deal

Also worth remembering that it's ok for us to strike while we get the higher discount for Gus' contract.

Do those figures include the paper bag cash?

Ants can carry up to 20x their own body weight you’d think their hamstrings were pretty good right

I’d be interested in Cerra but only on the basis that we’ve done medical due diligence and are satisfied his repeat soft tissue injuries can be fixed.

At any rate, even if his soft tissue problems are fixable, he’s no longer worth a first round pick IMO. Not without something else coming back.

Yeah but they've got six of them and even then they only last a few months.

Unlikely to ever get a full season out of Cerra or an ant.

On the other hand, get an ant to climb into the stitching and every shot on goal would be a rushed behind.

Seems like a reasonably even draft, so if Carlton wanted to dump his salary (as above they might be trying to renegotiate with him now to fit in Houston which could squeeze him out), we might be happy to slide from pick 5 to pick 11 and throw in our later picks (say 50 and 61) for them to match their father sons. Despite missing games this year, he played 22 last year, is very consistent in games and will 25 at the start of next season.

I've had the misfortune of attending almost as many Carlton games over the last couple of seasons as Melbourne (go with friends/family...etc).

I was keen on Cerra when he was at Freo and was looking to come back to VIC.

Now I've seen him in person multiple times at Carlton....  hard pass. Always injured, soft and regularly goes missing.

Can he hit a target @JTR?

We need to prioritise speed and spread with our draft capital.

Cerra has looked decidedly ordinary at Carlton and is coming off a year decimated by hamstring injuries.

He's just average. Nothing standout that would make him a point of difference.
He'd be a slight upgrade on the likes of Sparrow or ANB, but not by much.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
