It wouldn’t surprise me if Lindsey is closer to 185cm rather than 183. Same higher as trac. He should have some real size on him in a few years

True Oxdee he looks closer to 185 than 183, looks about the Dukes height, how good do Lindsay and Windsor look in full stride.

Never forget you can make up 2cm in height through sheer mongrel.

A mongrel can add quite a bit of extra size.

And don't forget a mongrel with mongrel.

Serious question, has anyone seen Xavier Lindsay's kicking in person? Not just in videos.

Is his kicking elite? Is he hitting players "lace out" on the chest with his kicks?

Check with Whispering Jack, Son of Norm Smith or Dazzle Davey 36, they all have a good handle on the U16 & U18 competition, Coates League. I have seen Lindsay mentioned a lot during ‘24 on here.

If the Dees can trade in “pick 9” off the bombers, then I’d be keen on drafting Xavier Lindsay with this pick.  If we got either Lalor or Langford at pick “5” (inside mid bulls), Lindsay would be the perfect addition as a highly skilled left footer who can play half back or midfield. He captained the Gippsland Power team.  As previously written, he plays like Josh Kelly (GWS) offering the ability to win the ball in close as well as run and spread. Undoubtedly injury ended his year early and he didn’t test at the combine. He’s got class and skills to add a lot to our future.

Good stuff Normie

I definitely think Xavier Lindsay could play on the half back flank for the Demons in the near future.

However, I think he is still working on his fitness levels after his knee injury last year.

I don't have too high of an expectation on him for just his first year. So I will just wait and see when he gets to earn a spot in the AFL side for the Demons.

Nevertheless, it's great that we have another elite kick in the team.

The more elite kicks and excellent decision makers we have at the Demons the better!

He plays on ball at Gippsland, was a winger in the champs.

We're also wasting Windsor if we pigeon hole him as a winger long term. He should be spending plenty of his training time with the inside mids and half backs over summer no matter who we pick. Even if I think he's a few years away from a permanent on ball role, if at all.

But back on Lindsay. He has similar attributes to Josh Kelly, who we passed over twice because of doubts about his toughness under the highest of pressure but is undoubtedly a good player.

And whilst I like my midfielders big and beefy there's no doubt the league has shifted to valuing quick and skilled mids. Naicos, Gulden (playes overwhelmingly on ball), Butters, Serong were all Aus. Merrett should've been. We've just lost the one player we have who can run with those guys in ANB.

Lindsay's also 183cm and has at least some size on his frame, he's not totally skinny. Who's to say he doesn't end up a better inside ball winner and stronger than Jagga Smith, Finn O'Sullivan, Draper and Murphy Reid who are all in contention for top 5 picks.

He had 11 disposals and 5 clearances in just over a quarter in this clip and looked comfortable in traffic.

I hadn't opened this thread, so started post from last September. Some interesting takes.

This post will age a lot better than some of the other takes - you nailed DS.

Great comment about the similarities to Kelly, I hadn't thought of that comparison - it's a good one

I love this kid, and think he has huge upside. As you note can play mutiple roles, is tough, and is exactly the sort of player we have been crying our for.

And seems like he is a natural leader.

Xavier Lindsay had a wonderful first game for the Demons!

Well done young fella! ❤️💙😎👍🏻

Garry Lyon was also very impressed and said Xavier Lindsay reminded him of Nigel Lappin.

Here's the article about it: https://www.sen.com.au/news/2025/03/18/the-dees-draftee-who-reminded-lyon-of-early-2000s-superstar-in-round-1-debut

Lappin was a great player, if he's anywhere near him we've got a good one.

I think we have...

Real mongrels become hunched with anger so not sure about that.

This bloke looked a class above, had time, great footy thinking and the disposal we desperately need.

Best debut since Clarrie.

Clarry's first game was against GWS and at the MCG too 😉 good omen!

A very good debut.

Showed the level of maturity Matty Whelan showed in his first game all those years ago.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
