Steve Smith: all the right credentials, ex MFC player, ex MCC president, good with media, good negotiator.

He would be perfect.

Vote 1: Mach 5!

I can’t seem to find the thumbs down reaction.

In all honesty, I think the hardest part of filling this position is akin to finding a good politician; the problem is the type of personal the role generally attracts.

I actually think Garry has the capability to be a very good president and brings with him credibility and respect in the media and AFL world in general.

I'd suspect he probably doesn't have the time / energy to spare that would be required to do it well.

Andy, I think it’s time we had some sort of learner / probationary system for creating new threads.

I don’t start threads too often but I reckon it’s time I got into it properly. I think a “trade max Gawn” thread is the go. Or perhaps a “bring back neeld” thread?

Could well make a good Pert replacement.

No ex-football players for President.

Simples!

I reckon Maxy could make a decent president down the track.

I have it on authority that Nathan Carroll is about to run a no confidence ticket.

what’s your thoughts on this? On the surface, and that’s all I have access to, it seems necessary.

Travis Johnston perfectly credentialed.

Etiquette would suggest that if you are going to pull the [censored] about him, you spell his name right.

I’d have loved it if Leoncelli stayed on the board because I reckon he’d have made a great President.

After about 10 years as MCC president Steve Smith is more than an ex-player. Eminently qualified if he could be persuaded.

Andrew Leoncelli would be another I'd back but Brad Green's place on the board is all about player input and relations. He doesn't have the right stuff for president, and nor does G Lyon.

But Smith would be great in maintaining good ties with the MCC as well as bringing playing and administrative experience. He would get instant respect from the media as well, something we lack.

Yeah- nah.

Too many skeletons.

Too much media/ conflict.

Agree regarding Smith. Someone please convince him.

I don't feel like the current leadership has understood the depths that this club has been to. One flag was a gift to leadership to help accelerate us on the path to respect and relevance. It feels like everyone thought the job was done and this pervaded all the way down to the playing group.

As a club we are sitting right back where we were prior to 2021, which is completely unforgivable. Agree with everyone who has said they are sick to their guts of all the self congratulatory rubbish about the great culture that they've built. The evidence just doesn't stack up.

Could do a lot worse. I'd rather have Trump for President than Lyon.

Sorry. Upon reflection...

Hold that thought.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
