The problem was that the finish to our 2023 season was the beginning of our woes… the media pundits were looking for something to get their teeth stuck into, and what better than a premiership team going out in straight sets, two years on the trot. Then almost immediately, they got to feast on the Joel Smith issue, Clarrie’s off off-season, Brayshaw’s forced retirement…and that was just for starters.

I’m not sure that too many of the 17 other clubs had problems that outstripped those at our club.

Collingwood have not made finals after a flag, the president has been away for half the year and has a law suit against him.

Not much being said there though.

Every year there are 17 losers. We have been consistently finished higher among the losers than most. Look n the bright side: our problems aren't as bad as most teams these past years.....

Gee I'm really happy we were good enough to lose "Get a grip"

We didn't finish top 4. The season doesn't end after round 22.

It's been a successful few years relative to the 57 that came before but when you're talking highly  successful you're talking Geelong 2007-2011, Hawks 2012-2015, Richmond 2017-2020. Those are highly successful periods.

Who cares about the other clubs. This "pat on the back" mentality is what leads to decades of mediocrity.

I agree.  I wonder who seriously believes Hawthorn had a better 2018 season than us.  Finals changes everything.

I agree also that the Hawks highly successful era finished in 2015.  The 2016 and 2018 seasons were not successful seasons for them. They went out in straight sets twice.

Go Peter Lawrence - you have the full support of lots of Demons supporters as well as MFC members.

More power to you.

Wow Cranky, that is the most positive thing you have ever written on this site. 😊

When did we turn into BomberBlitz?

Some Dees fans are so terrified of the past that they are happy with close enough is good enough. With this list close enough is not good enough. Its the same nonsense we are hearing out of the club right now. Pert and Roffey saying we didnt play finals so therefore thats not good enough, how about instead of just playing finals you [censored] win a couple????

And as if not playing finals is our only issue. Smh.

Stop thinking about 2013 and being happy with the club just coz we arent 2013 Melbourne. Adjust your standards.

Yes, and it’s significant that those three “highly successful” recent eras were overseen by outstanding CEOs and quality boards.

It does matter.

I wish Peter Jackson had have stuck around a while longer. I was against Mahoney being given the job as his successor but seems it may have been the right move after all.

We need a review of the club and Alan Jackson would be the ideal man to do it

Not sure a country music singer is the best person for the review.

Now that the Power Of the Rings season 2 is completed, he might find some time?

I think an independent review would clear the air and shut the media up.

Given current lawsuits if the MFC has been named as a respondent i am not sure whether a review right now would be or could be prejudicial?? I do not know enough to be certain either way..

No wonder someone wanted to shake up the board, maybe that someone knew something that we didn’t.

They should report on the meeting between the five members of the AFLW leadership group with the CEO at the Pies in 2023. A year later four of the five were no longer at the club, I wonder if their concerns about culture were taken seriously?

Good suggestion, would love to know what that entailed. Will never happen

A lot of issues that have been swept under the rug at Melbourne and I think we should thank Deemocracy for helping to expose these issues. Peter Lawrence is one member that has put his reputation on the line to advocate for change.

We can rise up the ladder because of good selections and fall just as quickly because of poor administration, get the right people in the right positions and we will have a better chance of sustained success.

I have no connections with the club, I have explained my views about a review did you read it, all I ask is show proof of mismanagement and then I will have no problem having  a review of the board I just don't don't go believing in heresy.

You might want to check the wording or rephrase that remark.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
