Off to the Saints. Re-contracted but as per Clarry going to Cats last October, contracts mean stuff all.

Clarry is running around in hoops?

literally signed a new contract with gw$ in the last fortnight

going nowhere

In a sports entertainment world, this is very likely. In an honest competition, I think we can be there.

So we can’t then.

In a recent light interview Goodwin was asked who the best two players he'd played with were, and said Ricciuto  and McLeod.

So, clearly, that's who Langford and Lindsay should be compared to.

🤪

seeing as he just signed a 4 year million $$ deal with gw$ let's go with 'no'

...and turned down a $10m(?), 7-year(?) deal to leave?

Over the moon to have Harvey "The Bison" Langford at the Melbourne Demons.

Was great that he also kicked the match winning goal against Freo yesterday.

I think the young fella would have to be close to leading the Rising Star Award for this year so far?

The wing is perfect for him atm, beautiful kick, calm under heat and strong. A few seasons and he’ll be our inside bull

The best pick to have in the draft is always the one directly after Adelaide

Anyone know the lad or his family personally? I really hope he is settling in and loving the Dees?

The thing that surprises me about Langford from his draft profiles and the size of him I don't think he will end up an inside bull.

That's not a knock on him. How often have we seen Viney and Oliver crash into each other to get the same footy?

Langford is big bodied but waits his turn which is not what I expected but shows a real footy IQ

Then when he get's it he is elite with his disposal.

Don't know him but he looked super invested yesterday and cheering on almost like a fan from the bench.

On the nickname, someone referred to him as a baby bontempelli which I thought was apt. Mind immediately went to Bambi as a nickname. Not that I'm advocating bontempelli to be hunted.

Tholstrup can be thumper.

Langford seems like a young boy but is quite mature. I think the preparation through the underage system really helps and prepares these youngsters. He speaks well in interviews.

But he’s still learning. Sometimes is perhaps hesitant but I think he’s watching for the spread when we/they get it. Solid tackler too.

Important two goals v Dockers. Whilst many others missed, Langford nailed his two chances. Match winner in the end. 👏👏

Really love this guy and he looks so great with the footy and is a beautiful kick...great game all round but very happy for him that he had a good one too.

He's got leader written all over him for mine. He's not the most gregarious individual, but you can tell he's a pro, and you can never have enough of those.

Love his left foot and has good agility for a guy whose knock is pace.

Very good

With all the crazy comparisons you see on kids, I'll add another.

From what I have seen he is not Bont or Cripps like most pundits suggested.

James Hird had the body but was never a bull. He always went when it was his turn (wrecker flattened him because of it)

But he stood cleverly outside packs and just read the play so perfectly he knew where to get it and where to send it before anyone else.

If Essendon needed a goal he would just be there.

Hird lacked a yard of pace but would play anywhere because he would pop up at the right time and do damage.

So I'll add my crazy comparison but that iis where I see him over Bont or Cripps

Yes really good cool head and reminded me somewhat of Pendlebury!

I'm not sure if it's the running style and left side dominance but to me he appears to be a 2020's version of Wayne Johnston from Carlton. Johnston played in a more violent era and didn't mind the physical side of the game, but he was a very skilled ball user who didn't appear overly quick but was always a step ahead. He was also one of the best big game players of all time. Langford knows where it's going and how to get it. He's also excellent at using it.

Reminds me of a young Jordan Lewis with his left peg.

Let's not forget that Lewis at his peak was an absolute gun midfielder for the Hawks.

Going bold.

This kid will be the best player in the competition in 2 years.

So good both inside and outside

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
