Plug-in-and-play is this bloke.  Looks ready to go

Got a bit of toughness about him with a Steely resolve (Luke Hodge like)

Excellent left foot kick and can take a mark (in front and up forward)

And he's elusive with the ability to side step opponents.  2 or 3 quick steps then steadies before delivering up field

Langford will be a real asset

I glad the club went with best talent and not position as I think a bit more depth in the midfield is essential.

I didn’t think that Dixon’s interviews with Langdon or Lindsay were much chop, he didn’t talk us up like he did the Tiges, Blues, etc.

It was weird not asking something like "how excited are you to play alongside Trac and Oliver" 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was expecting us taking a KPD with the ninth pick. I guess Petty is really here to stay and take over May when he retires.

Has a gigantic head

Lego style

He will break people

Don’t ker if he dun talk gud

I love this selection: big body, consistent, one touch marking, good through traffic, really good kick. But I am not expecting too much from him in 2025.  He looks to be one of the most AFL ready first year players we have seen in a while at the Dees, but I also remember the first pre season of Petracca who really struggled prior to the Christmas break. The step up is a BIG step so I watch with huge interest but little expectation.

I feel more confident now because our development program is so good. Tholstrup, Windsor, McVee, Kozzie, Luke Jackson all played in their first season. I will watch closely to see if Langford can do the same.

Not sure that's correct about McVee. Nevertheless, the point you make is sound.

He's a serious weapon and will drive our engine room for years to come. He's adept inside, outside, defending and in the air. Ultra consistent and no-one can stop him. If they get their hands on him, he either just breaks through it or has the Clarry like ability to get hands free and fire the handball off. He's super fit too, had one of the best 2km times at the combine, so will be able to step in straight away.

Pair him with Windsor, Rivers, Lindsey and our midfield is set for the next generation after Viney, Trac and Clarry wind down. Others like Tholstrup, Kozzie and McVee will also contribute there too. We've managed to draft these kids all while being in premiership contention. Huge tick for our recruitment and list management teams!

Midfields win premierships, and we've rejuvenated ours nicely.

Id like to see all of them used during the season to allow a break for the oldies and introduce the newbies to the pressure etc of AFL.

Also it allows for a few  diferent patterns with the different features of the players keeps the opposition guessing and they dont just roll out  formula to beat us.

Again thanks to all reporters it is fantastic and i hope I can get down to join you some time.

I was lucky enough to attend a function last week re the draft and the scouting report on the kid was exceptional. The club that was hosting the function had:

O’Sullivan & Ashcroft grouped.

Langford & Smith the next 2.

Draper, Lalor & Lombard.

Travaglia, Tauru, Lindsay & Kako

They said Langford is the meanest player in the draft. Super competitive, good skills, great hands, very clean with the ball but by far the best quote was when they said he’d rip the arms off his opponent to get the footy back. Bit like Megatron ripping Jazz to pieces (awful film).

They would’ve picked him at 2.

Didn’t have a lot to say about Lindsay other than he was very evasive, highly skilled, deceptively tough and took ground when in possession.

Tauru in the tier below Draper, but we would have selected Tauru with pick 5 over Draper 🤔

The poster didn’t say it was our club that was hosting the function.

Very pleased with the selection, but can I just say… what a horrendous haircut. Good lord!

I am glad someone else thinks this - I was "too polite" to say so, but will happily join you watchtheeyes

But if the boy can play, I really don't care about his hairstyle - after all I loved Nathan Jones

Christian had the extra problem of coming back from his 12 month leg injury and debuted in about Round 5/6 vs Saints at Marvel in 2015 I think.

To be fair Trac did not really hit his straps and become elite until the 2020 season after starting in a practice game vs Crows at Casey Fields kicking a goal or two to put the competition on notice.

I am not like you Maldon Boy I have the feeling HL will be playing from Round1 on. Also that Xavier Lindsay may also make it instead of say Chandler. Obviously practice match and pre season form are the guides here but both players look elite with special skills.
Time will tell no doubt.

It was a club picking late on the first night of the draft. Hence they were pretty happy to talk about 8-10 players in detail.

We were told that the amount of trade offers for teams to either get back into the 1st round this year or move up was unprecedented. All the way from the end of trade period to the draft.

They were happy to take players up until picks in the mid 50’s as the pool of talent is deep.

They were hoping that Hotton was still on the board when they picked. Richmond went way early at 12 compared to where they had him.

There were a couple of players that weren’t in their top 30 which was interesting. Reid and Armstrong were the most easily identified.

The other thing they talked about was the poor performance of WA in developing players recently. Reflected in the downturn in indigenous players.

Somebody asked about the testing of players and they basically said the speed and jumping measurements weren’t much use when compared to agility and endurance.

It was pretty good. Ive been to a lot of post draft MFC events and thought that this event was better.

I'd like to see that!

Paul Roos during his coaching stint memorably had Dave Hughes come in during the pre-season and address the boys. Hughes referred to Bernie Vince’s haircut as not been unlike that of a tennis ball buzz. The funny part was where he’d end up, as the Australian Open was in progress nearby. Somewhere in a women’s single match in the knickers of an attractive star. Bought the house down.

The second image recalls this guy.

Who appears overly amorous with the Collingwood crowd. (Sylvester is pleading mistaken identity). Haircut is colloquially known as “the Shunk” for good reason.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
