Some of the efforts to ight were deplorable, many of them when the game was still alive early. They were not the only culprits but Bowey and Fritsch were two notable ones who just [censored] themselves at the thought of contact.

It's actually embarassing the way we continue to have our pants pulled down by this mob. We've beaten them twice since 2017 and one of those games was at the Gabba. What does it take for us to say "no more" we will not let this mob roll over us anymore!?

It has nothing to do with gameplan, footskills, turnovers etc and has everything to do with mindset and aggression at the opposition and the contest.

A lot of clubs have bogey sides.

Right now Collingwood and Fremantle are that for us.

It'll be partly in our heads, I'm sure. It's also talent. Collingwood are smarter and faster than us, whilst Fremantle match us at contest and are too strong defensively for us to score against.

There was a thread going around the other week asking when we know our season was shot. For mine, it was King's Birthday. Losing to a half-strength Collingwood by 6 goals told me we were no good.

I’m 65 years old and so sick of Melbourne losing to these Collingwood scum with their smug faces. Please couldn’t we get a decent training ground and some top line players who don’t desert us (Jesse Hogan, Brodie Grundy and Luke Jackson say hello) and actually become a force to be reckoned with again?

I found our losses interesting this year.

They were either close games, which we largely botched, or they were large scale losses.

From 6-2 onwards, when we went 5-10, our losses were by 1, 2, 5 and 5, and then by 35, 38, 56, 50, 51 and 92.

Six times we couldn't keep the margin below 6 goals. The other four were botched close games. Nothing in between after Round 5.

Edit: so were our wins, too. After Round 5, our wins were by 3 and 8, then 17 to Essendon (but that was 40+ with 10 minutes to go), and otherwise were 38, 43, 54 and 54.

One game after Round 5 that wasn't decided by a single digit or by 6+ goals.

Yes that's a good point Earl.  Saying we should try and change / improve our system is probably a lazy statement that infers we know what we're trying to do.

I still recall the comversation i had with Sparrow earlier in the year after he returned to the mid field role after a few horror games in a row.

When i asked him what role / position he was supposed to be playing in those earlier poor games he said "no idea really".

I just hope the right decisions are made. We need new Coaches with strong ideas, we need to replace a high number of players, who then need to be a lot fitter in both mind and body than they were in 2024.
Our running and spread over a ground is what is killing us, opposition players are unguarded all over the ground, far too often this year.
Goodwin has to take some blame for the drop off, and needs to adapt more to yearly trends in the game. 
 

A Huge offseason awaits the MFC, they better plan it well and get it right or we will be in serious trouble

Jon Ralph was right on first crack tonight. When we're attempting to recruit players to the club they're legitimately turning away due to the Trac issue and obviously his silence. 

It's no wonder some of the players wouldn't have issue if he did in fact leave because they know its always been about him and his brand.

The Melbourne Football Club isn't high on Petracca priority list.

He may not be psychologically ready/able/willing enough to do a live interview?

He went through a life threatening situation about 3 months ago. That can really affect a person. It has nothing to do with being a maturing man or a leader. Mental health issues can be crippling and can happen to anyone. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is immune from mental health issues.

I don't buy it. It's not about gameplan or execution, our players actually play timid against the filth. There is no intent behind their movement, they should be tackling to hurt the opposition, swarming them etc

The club must put their footy down and say, regardless of what happens moving forward we will not lose to Collingwood again. Play with some ferociousness and they don't like it, they only like it when they can bully other sides. Turn the tables and they go to water.

Gee, it was a bloody ordinary performance.

I know there was some experimentation, but I thought it in the Port game and I thought it all night, not sure Judd is a mid. Maybe he needs more exposure in there, so he doesn't rush his disposals, because I reckon 3 or 4 of his kicks resulted in turnover goals against. Some players (like Salem) are just better when the play is in front of them.

Maybe it's more about releasing McVee to play that Rivers 2023 role of pinging off half back and allowing AMW to play the deep 1v1 on the dangerous small?

Thought Kozzy was superb early, but as soon as he sort of got Moore, it was like it played on his mind, and he was never as electric as he was in the first half.

I hope Viney had a huge tag, because he was nowhere. 

Aside from that KB game last year where we had their measure, we've become their bunnies. And they are scum. Need to turn the tables on them next year.

Collingwood play with the arrogance that McRae has as a coach. Almost as if he has instructed them to toy with us. And we let them tonight. 

That forward half needs more x factor and I'm afraid to say it, but the Petty forward experiment, I think, should be put in the bin.

I'm being selective but I can remember in the 2018 EF against Geelong (a side that had bullied us for years) we were absolutely ruthless and it was obvious from the opening bounce that they were the ones who were spooked. 

It would be great if we could bring that sort of mongrel next time we play Collingwood.

Many times Jaded.  The black dog's paid me many a visit over the years and suffering one of the worst episodes of late.

I'm well versed unfortunately.

In today's world though you just have to soldier on one day at a time and try to dig your way out.

You have no choice, especially when you know your kids / family's welfare depends on you getting up each day, facing the music and bringing in the $$ to feed, keep roof over head etc.

At least from a $$ perspective, most footballers don't have that awful worry hanging over them.  They at least have that to be thankful for in that most will be set for life if they last about 8 to 10 years in the circus and use their coin wisely.

Tracc's appearance was built up all day.  It was even on 7 news pre-match, it was one of the upcoming highlights.  "We'll be speaking with Petracca pre-match blah blah blah".

So he must have agreed to do so i assume yes?

If you're that far out of it, surely better not to commit at all?  Pulling out just means even more speculation and more pressure on himself surely?

I'm not questioning that he hasn't experienced massive physical or mental trauma and a huge cathartic type experience.  I get where he's coming from.

I'm just saying, from where i sat, the body language and no show on 7 might not auger well in terms of where his future lies as a footballer be it with us or wherever.  Time will tell of course and hope i'm wrong.
