It would be good to end the season with a win & go into the pre season on a winning note & building into a better  2025

If the Filth beat us, they can still make if Port can get over Freo in Perth and the Blues lose to both the WCE and the Saints, which given all the Blues outs and the way they are playing is a strong chance.

Yes, you are right. Go Blues! (Can't believe I am saying this).

Blues win today pies are out of finals. Pies poor % will get them in any other circumstances

Unless you have Carlton beating West Coast, a 1 point win over us and a Fremantle loss to Port puts Collingwood in the 8.

Carlton winning tonight pretty much ends them but the Blues’ injury list means that’s unlikely.

Correct. Today's the day. Saints will beat blues next week.

Fingers crossed. Go Crippa.

Currently the four required outcomes for Collingwood to make it are all favourites (WC and St K over Carlton, Port over Fremantle, them over us).

It’s increasingly frustrating that this would be us if we had held on last week. Just that one game changes, all the rest stay the same (ie keep the Freo and Dogs floggings, the other three close losses etc), and next Friday is almost a playoff for 8th.

During the offseason, there was plenty of talk around Hunter and his off field standards and behaviour. Him playing or not won't make any difference to us IMO, but the context around it is extremely intriguing to me.

With the timing around the Petracca noise and the culture question being raised yet again, and with Hunter on 199 games and uncontracted for next year, this makes for a really interesting decision from the outside.

Which part of culture wins out? Do we get a player who may very well retire to 200 games, or do we act so ruthlessly that we don't select him off the back of standards behind the scenes? I don't claim to know if there's been significant issues of course, but his non-selection this year says a lot.

Without all the facts, I don't know where I sit on the decision, but it is interesting nonetheless.

If they didn’t get JJ on in the GF when we were 60 points up, there’s no way Hunter will be gifted a 200th game.

I would give Hunter his 200th and farewell game next week, on the strict proviso he makes Maynard and Moore know he was out there and if possible legally of course, fixes up Maynard.

If he had that in him I’d extend his contract

but he doesn’t

Earlier today I thought BBB might get a final goodbye game after kicking 6 in the VFL.

After this afternoon's result I'm not sure there's a spot for him - perhaps as sub? But given we probably have to replace Sparrow, it's not exactly like for like.

I must admit that I have a fantasy of Benny coming on at the 10 min mark of the last quarter and kicking the goal after the siren to beat the Filth.

Nonetheless, it will definately be Nibblers last game. It would also be good to get some clarity on Melksham and McDonald too because they both deserve good send-offs if this is their last game (though tbc I think they should both get 1 more year).

Yep I’d go one more year with Melky and TMac. Need the depth and experience / leadership anyway.

Looks like this game will likely be a dead rubber now, given Carlton & Hawthorn’s percentage.

The thought of potentially denying Collingwood a finals run is extremely arousing

They can't make finals.

Even with finals out of the question, finishing the season on the back of back to back wins and seeing this game plan start to work could really set us up for a pre season! i hope we attack this game with as close to our best side as we can and beat the Pies.

Quite frankly, Carlton winning was the best result possible. Means, win, lose or draw, Dees fans can sit there with a smugness about them knowing Collingwood couldn’t even make the finals to defend their premiership.

I'm feeling a bit better about next Friday night knowing the pies are now out of the finals.

It would be great to win & leapfrog both Collingwood and essendon

Why legally? It’ll be his last game. Why not go out with a bang.

Instead of giving Hunter his 200th to honour him players could just do underground handballs all day 😂

Pretty funny how excited the Pies were beating the Lions

Exactly. I think it's funny how Collingwood have not only missed finals after being premiers, but it was carlton that have kept them out.

This will be a good finals series, apart from Geelong I don't care who wins it

I would have preferred them to be a chance so that we get a bigger home game attendance and so that we could be the ones to end the finals chance. Mathematically they can still make it if they have a huge win and other results fall their way. Does anyone know if they have a mathematical chances post like we do here?

The huge Season Over banner in the crowd from QB 2004 needs to make a comeback. Worst. Premiers. Ever.

I agree; while it’s frustrating to have missed finals, finishing the home and away season with a win (over Collingwood no less) would surely inject a better energy, hunger and belief into the pre-season than another consecutive straight sets exit.

THE HEADLINE YOU WILL NOT SEE !!!!

Does Colingwood's failure to make the finals signify that the culture at Collingwood is not conducive to success. As such the Club should be conducting a grass roots analysis of all facets of the CLub's operations.

As a consequence of the failure ot follow up on their KO win in 2023 , the Coaches position must be a subject of scrutiny.

Some senior players may have to change their game plan by going for the ball rather than the man as has been part of their game style. Furthermore the Draw must reflect the position of the team

The culture at Collingwood must come under great scrutiny.

The AFL are currently forming an investigative group including the AFL Head of Fixturing,Tom Morris, Cane Kornes,Tim Watson and the MCG Trust   to investigate how Collingwood can play ALL their games at the MCG and also train exclusively on the ground.

Collingwood can only make it be appealing against Carlton beating WCE and by demanding that Freemantle forfeit to PORT

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
