Thought Goodwin's press conference today was simply outstanding. Eloquent, precise, informative and measured. Put to bed any of the media nonsense in a no frills manner. Petracca and Oliver staying. What a surprise! Outlined that all footy clubs have their frustrations, debates and times of angst. It's called human nature. This is not true only in the AFL but all footy clubs in this country. Our mate Tom Morris was back pedalling at a rate of knots and was noticeably quieter throughout proceedings. For those who believed a word this 'person' said well, it's just embarrassing. Finally, the revelations re Clarry were stark. We find now he has been playing with a busted hand, knee and a cracked rib. What an awesome effort from a guy who many said would never play for the club again. To all those people in the media and those on this site who mercilessly got stuck into Oliver hang your collective heads in shame. He is a champion of the club and one of the all time greats in the history of the game. He will be back bigger and better than ever. Once again well done Simon.âī¸ One of the aÄēl time greats is pushing a bit good footballer but has a few weaknesses hopefully they will be addressed pre season.

Thanks Deelectable I heard the one you heard he was on the front foot and slightly aggressive in his responses to media, etc loved the way he handled the ANB request for transfer and Clayton and Tracc questions. His performance was exceptional.đđđ
August 14, 20241 yr Iâm so pleased to hear Simon is leaning in to so many things. Hope he doesnât fall over.

August 14, 20241 yr I thought goody spoke well and I was delighted to hear of all the issues Clayton has. Gives me a lot more confidence heâll be back to his best next year. The concern for me is that Petracca hasnât said anything publicly and the club hasnât denied it, so the fact remains that one of the people who we should all trust the most âhas lost faith in the direction of the clubâ. A player like trac doesnât say that for no reason. I hope that it is the issue with the medicos and not a reference to our culture, but it sounded like both. I do find it very very very suspicious that Anb now wants to go home. I canât help but think he wouldnât go if he thought we were a chance for another flag, so why is his confidence in us gone? Similarly, with viney. I canât help but think his dad has heard him complaining about something at Melbourne, be it culture or otherwise. Prompting his old man to let north know heâs potentially gettable. I dont blame any of the above but we need to work out whatâs going on thatâs causing three of our best leaders to want out. Whichever way you shape it, itâs a shambles. The positive is, that if we can get the underlying issues sorted, we will likely see a big jump in performance.Â
August 14, 20241 yr The great Barassi wasn't MLK! Some of his most popular quotes as orator were basic football truths... "Practice makes perfect' is [censored]. Only perfect practice makes perfect." "If we're going to fail then we will fail my way! And my way at the moment is handball!" Ron Barassi to Gary 'Crazy Horse' Cowton: "What is it with you? Is it ignorance or is it apathy?" (Cowton's response: "I don't know and I don't care") Those that harp on about Goodwin harping on are expecting their football coach to be a wordsmith. Its really about how the players receive and respond to the message. By the way... Premierships coaching Melbourne, Goodwin 1, Barassi 0 Â Edited August 14, 20241 yr by waynewussell
August 14, 20241 yr I'm very sceptical about what I read in the media. Also, public relations = propaganda, so I don't pay too much heed to what gets said at a press conference either.

I would be reading nothing into anything Goodwin/Richardson/Pert says until Petracca/Oliver/Viney are lining up for us in Round 1 next year playing good football. Thatâs true of almost everyone in the afl. They are trained to do it. I would argue goodwin isnât very good at it at all.Â

They don't and will never all see eye to eye, share the same passions for reading the bible and knitting, or agree about everything. Is our culture perfect? Obviously not. Is any club's culture perfect? Obviously not. Are we getting air time because it's easy to pick on an underperforming club? Absolutely Been a perfect storm of everything that could go wrong has. Despite several bad games and enduring controversies we have been up for the fight even up to last round.

I sincerely they have enough brains to not read/involve
August 14, 20241 yr i listened to Simonâs presser but I still am worried about the silence from Trac on this. the clubs statement yesterday was very wishy washy and didnât instill me with any great confidence on whether Trac wanted to stay just that we would enforce his contract. ditto with the Gawny interview. He didnât sound confident at all. really want to hear from Trac. Say it ainât so Trac. there are no doubt a lot of supporters unhappy with the club. Blind Freddy could tell you that. I would be worried if Trac wasnât unhappy either. this saga is far from over. Edited August 14, 20241 yr by Skrull

Trac, quite clearly, hasn't been silent on this "saga". He is simply selective about who he is sharing his view with, and at the moment it ain't you, Joe!

However, I'm not sure I'd be celebrating the above? Particularly in the recent context of the handling of both Petracca and May's injuries. There's bravery, and then there's poor management on the behalf of those responsible for such things. You wouldn't expect anything less from a courage perspective from those 3 players, but we simply must get better as a club with how we go about our player management. I find the news of what Clarry played through more concerning than anything else, and I'm generally pretty positive as a general club outlook. Given Clarry's struggles to find form given those physical ailments, it's looking a worse and worse decision that they didn't make the decision to get him to full fitness. Of course, there would be other factors, but it's a wider issue the last few years I believe, and the examples we've seen this season have been particularly bad. Where did I say 'celebrating'? Awesome effort is an entirely different thing. Interesting also that clubs and players in particular can't win. If they play through injury the club is negligent. Conversely, if they don't get on the field they're accused of being weak and not toughing it out. Kane Cornes has potted Nick Cox and Todd Marshall for being soft and not cut out for the game. Lose, lose.

Ox's best prognostication was a few weeks ago saying Charlie Curnow was due and would kick a bag. Even though he was nowhere near to best forward currently (Jesse that is) He's been taking lessons from Clickbait Cornes on how to in his case re-build a media presence.

August 14, 20241 yr Was a fantastic interview, he was the ultimate progressional especially with the little [censored] Tom Morris in the room. Handled himself fantastically and was open and honest, spoke with a real calmness and was very solution focused.  Compare that to BevoâĻ he couldnât control himself after losing a round 1 match and let loose on Morris.  Perhaps Goody is the right man to navigate use through this turbulenceÂ

I applaud his level of bravery to get out on the field , but seems really dumb for the club to allow him to play while so banged up. I was one who got stuck into Clarry at times this year due to what he has produced on field which has been way below his standard and barely AFL standard recently. He should never have been playing with such injuries I thought we learned our lesson in 2022 by selecting the effectively the same 22 every week when we have able replacements playing good footy at Casey and not manage players after the 10-0 start ,we saw what happened in finals.
