It would be tough not defending yourself that's for sure, how would Nick Smith be going reading all the comments about himself over the years.

😂😂😂

He would probably have also wondered why he wasn't getting a game like the rest of us. Then he did, and unfortunately we all then knew. ☚ī¸

You can’t explain it, can you. So you resort to the old I don’t have to explain anything to you thing.

Now Dazzledavey will applaud your post, coz Dazzledavey. Strangest bedfellows ever.

He's right.

As if young players would tell a middle age nuffy cheer squad member facts of what really goes behind the club. It's all a PR play by the club. Smile in front of the supporters, treat them well, thank them for their support and play the straight bat. They get trained to do this lol

You were only telling us just the other week how rosy everything at the club was going, and completely ridiculed Tom Morris when all this initially broke out. You just look rather foolish now.

Stephen Wells and Andrew Mackie would offer pick 85 for Trac

and ask for our second rounder LOL

Not sure that's possible.

Sam McLure - all vibes and feelings. Only in football media would that rate as a story. McLure does not so much as claim to have spoken to any senior players about Trac or to have knowledge of any conversations about or with him.

Would be laughed out of any journalism school.

I loved how McClure said "in his opinion" to kick off his segment on 'Footy Classified' tonight basically meaning it's all hypothetical. Of the five bullet points he made in his segment, I honestly couldn't buy any of it. It all sounded too wishy washy for me. It's clear to me that McClure is getting this information second hand when he couldn't answer any proper direct questions from the panel for instance when 'Cornes' asked about Goodwin and Petraccas relationship... he back peddled quickly and said he couldn't comment on it saying "he's not comfortable speaking to the heart of 1 on 1 relationships" because he knew he had nothing.

What I found interesting was Lloyd's comments having spoken to some players and they believed his services are best suited elsewhere. But what I get from that is that the players feel he needs to drop his enormous ego and start toeing the line if he wants to get some respect back from the playing group back. Unfortunately I feel now he'll never be Captain of our club which seemed almost destined for him in the next year or two. Oh how far you've fallen Christian...

Did you also notice at the end of the segment 'Hutchy' thanked Sam and Tom for breaking the news. Morris strikes again... McClure is only telling what Morris had passed on. That's why he couldn't answer any direct line of questioning.

Very hard to know what the hell is going on with this one. One of the oddest situations in recent memory and one that seems to be damaging both the club and the player as it continues. So many reports contradict themselves (e.g. giving the club a kick up the butt to improve while simultaneously fostering a situation that makes it very hard for the club to sell itself to people who might be able to help it do that).

No idea what's gone on behind close doors. If there has been pressure applied to the club that we must get better then I'm all for that. Our 3 years since the flag have delivered so much less than they could have. But if it's more of a 'you must get better' to the club then I would feel it lacks self awareness and somewhat shirks the responsibility of the club's highest paid player to both deliver when under immense pressure and to drive the standards that ultimately turn the club into what we all want it to be.

If it's simply a 'you must get better' then I'd love the club's response to be that we get the best value for him and move on. I would also not expect the club to make this public at all as it would simply hurt the negotiating position which is currently very strong.

I have no idea what is going on behind closed doors either, but where there is smoke, there is fire beneath. I agree that our admin both footy admin and Perts' side of the club seem to be weak at the knees. Honestly, I think it's time for a clean sweep of some personnel at the Club - including Goodwin if things don't straighten out soon.

I believe Gary Pert came under a lot of pressure and scrutiny at the MFC board meeting tonight and didn’t present well.   Could he be the Boards sacrificial lamb in order to repair Trac bridge?   Personally I hope Pert, Rofey and Trac all pack their bagsâ€Ļ

Pert and Roffey need to go. After Trac's last two weeks, I'm fine for him to nick off too.

Close on 650 posts in this thread since about 5pm

That's like reading a book but what was the book about?  Did we learn anything?

So Petracca wanting out was confirmed but can we facilitate a deal? (with a big club)

Or do we just stand on principle and not blink until we get the right offer

Any club that takes him may well do so without a medical clearance (has that been done before with a high profile player?)

And then there's all the salary cap room if we trade Petracca for picks only.  That might be $1.2Million next year alone

Don't clubs have to spend 100% of their salary cap these days?

Brayshaw's salary as well (who is paying that?  The League?)

That's a lot of cap space (not including the other delistments)

I still can’t believe the situation can’t be salvageable between Trac and the club. I’m not buying the Oliver thing either, I recall Trac giving a really honest and empathetic interview on AFL360 about him only a few weeks into the season.

All my mail has been around him trying to put his brand first - playing at a bigger club to help his brand. I also heard a rumour he was unhappy that Nick Daicos won some sponsorship deal ahead of him and the reason he was told was because Daicos played for Collingwood.

Really interesting to see if the club will put out a statement though after tonight’s events.

Or he was told things in confidence and didn't want to get too specific as he didn't want to burn his sources.

Which A grader is going to be asked to or happy to leave their big Victorian club to play for MFC.  Would rip the fabric of the other club.  Nope, this dog don't hunt.   Not this year at least.

Wow that’s a lot of pages, did anything actually happen Monday night or is all this just DL putting itself into a meltdown?

What post count did we get up to for the Hogan and Jackson threads? Feel like we're well on track to beat them.

In 2003,Manchester United traded David Beckham, aged 28,to Real Madrid,to the fury of Man U supporters.

It was a genius trade as Man U  traded Beckham at his peak and extracted maximum value.

We need to trade Trac, also aged 28,for a minimum 2 first rounders and set up our future before Tassie enter the AFL.

When the Hawks traded Buddy, they won 2 more flags without him

When Geelong traded Ablett, they won one more flag without him.

I don't think our list will win another flag because our gameplan is outdated and our forward line non functional.

Time to move on.

Don't forget this all started with Darcy Moore's knee. We owe those jerks SOOOOOO much pain. One year I hope we deliver.

Bloody Moore - his knee, and his icing on the cake is tunneling Kozzie and getting him suspended.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, â€Ļ”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
