Christian Petracca

Maybe he was wanting a firm commitment from the club to implement some changes rather than just lip service before he said he was staying (that would make sense to me)

What doesn’t make sense is for this statement of commitment to be made now when we are still weeks away from the trade period

People seem to think that if Carlton or Collingwood had trade currency Petracca would be gone.

That would be entirely dependent on Melbourne.  If the club wanted to retain him he was going nowhere.  You simply don't let disgruntled champions walk out on a 5 year contract (unless your list is stuffed).

Do you also reckon trac has also been frustrated with our older recruits & they haven't worked. IE, hunter, schache & McAdam ?

Possibly also probably not happy with recruits that have prior issues and haven’t changed.

Unfortunately with the way AFL media is, this will hang over the club’s head for the next 12 months until the next trade period. Having said that, a lot can change in 12 months such as:

1) the Dees have a successful season and win at least one final at the MCG

2) Dees have a poor year and somehow the Pies have the trade capital

3) Dees have an average season however the Pies are no longer in the window/Blues don’t have the cap space

I actually think the Pies will finish bottom 4 next year due to their aging list and injury issues. Even if we do struggle on-field next year, the Pies might not look appealing anymore.

We’re going to be the most under pressure team next year. The last time that happened, we won a flag. Call me an optimist, but hopefully this fork in the road brings about some change needed.

Again no idea the full extent of what has played out here. We'll probably never know the full story and nor should we.

Although there has probably been damage done to the club along the way, IF it's true that part of the frustration has been a lack of professionalism from the playing group, then we should all be thankful 1000 times over that it's been laid bare. We should also wonder how the hell it was ever allowed to happen (again).

It's looked obvious from the stands that the desperation to compete and dominate just hasn't felt like priority number one over the last few years. This club needs to change full stop. Regardless of what's going on off the field, it's what gets done on the field by the players that defines the club. I hope Petracca, and everyone else in the privileged position of wearing the jumper, are determined to be the ones who really drive the change that we are crying out for.

The coach has been critical in all of the teams that have had dominant periods over the last 15 years (Hawks, Cats, Tigers), but it was the players that committed to excellence that really drove the success.

Of this I have no doubt. If Collingwood or Carlton had access to early picks I do not believe Christian would be a Demon next season.

Now the hard work begins to get Trac the support he needs to rehab and get back to playing at his best. The club also needs to get to work and be a better run club top to bottom.

It's more than likely he wanted out, noting he has not publicly said that.

But I'm not convinced that even if they had the capital the pies or the blues would trade in petracca.

At the least, not on the coin he's currently getting.

I don't agree with those who are saying "if Collingwood/Carlton have the capital next year, watch out".

For one, if we address the issues that have come to the fore, we may be able to reduce or eliminate what's been pushing Trac towards the door. Things will also feel and look better if we get back to winning again next year.

But more importantly, this time next year he'll still have a four year contract on a million a season, and he'll be 29 turning 30. One fewer year on the contract doesn't suddenly make it easier for another club to take him, or reduce our bargaining power.

Given the brand stuff is going so well he could play for less money and free up salary cap for better trade ins

Relieved that he signed but just to play devil's advocate; the letter commits to the Dees for 2025. Does not mention the 5 years at all. The club better get it's [censored] in order otherwise the Carlton's and Collingwood will be more prepared and bring more to the table next year.

Could it be a case that they (he and the club) came to an agreement that they’ll do everything they can to clean up whatever mess they’re in and if they haven’t by the end of 2025, the club will agree to a trade if requested?

He won’t leave now, I was told by the club on Friday that he never asked for a trade, I reckon when Trac, Clarry, Salem, Lever, May and Max are fit we will be bloody hard to beat, we’re as good a chance as anybody to win flag next year.

What about their list management - a third of their best 22 are 30 or over.

No chance - the pregame for our round 23 match had a segment in "Collingwood's youth" and were glowing in how bright the future looked. Proceeded to list a bunch of names I'd barely heard of. I was literally arguing with the TV about how pathetic it was trying to blow smoke up Collingwood's [censored] and asking what about Melbourne's youth, you know the kids who have actually shown something at AFL level? My wife and her family who were over all think I'm a lunatic 🤣

Hope everyone gets behind him now. Probably faults on both sides. I still think a fair dinkum review is needed.

Hopefully a few more of us supporters rock up to our games next year….wait for it…..for big Max’s sake. We owe him.

    BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
