Would be more like an offload/salary dump with Oliver

As it stands, I highly doubt that any club would want to pay his monstrous salary anyway (rumoured to hit in excess of $1.5Million around 2028/2029)

Could also be that we're stuck with him

Petracca similar but he maybe has more upside

Does anybody else think that these contracts were necessary

Over the top shows what a week organisation we are and don't start me on Goodwins early extension

Absolute amateur hour

IT IS A FACT THAT GOODWIN COACHED FROM UPSTAIRS IN 2020 AND WAS ON THE BENCH COACHING IN 2021

AND IT IS ALSO A FACT THAT YZE WAS MAKING MOVES FROM UPSTAIRS AT THE SAME TIME

IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU???

And that was a pea-hearted apology. You can do better than that

Hey @Macca I thought you had morphed into @picket fence with the caps lock. The word CARRYST not being included helped me work it out. NFL almost here.

Why does the coach keep playing them then?

Imagine the media storm if Clarry or Trac got dropped to Casey? It would dwarf the current pile on.

I honestly chucked the caps in there to see what it looked like and for a bit of a laugh ... NEVER AGAIN (oops)

If we're thinking of trading Clarrie or Trac then we need them to play well. They won't be dropped

They are not playing that badly it's just nowhere near elite

My inner wish is that they both come good (for us)

And yeah, bring on the NFL! There's a pre-season game on Friday 10am

Trouble is that what's done is done and we can't bring it back

I'm now coming to terms with Goodwin probably being moved on* sooner or later so maybe a new voice can spark the players into action. The whole FD needs a skake-up anyway. As does the list

But again, the payout for Goodwin would be $1Million+ along with the soft cap tax of $750k ... that's for a full year

At a guess, I reckon he at least gets the first 6 or 8 games next year but the club might have different ideas

But lose to the Eagles and all bets are off!

What was the basis for Goodwin early extension performance based,?

I hope we’re stuck with both of them to be honest, it would be shocking to see them go for not much and then they find form somewhere else tha would hurt a lot.

You'd love to be a fly on the wall listening in to the list management meetings and such like

Think it was @old55 that has made mention that list decisions are made as early as the first week in June. Might even be earlier now with the salary cap rising the way it is

What's also noticeable is that clubs aren't concerned about contracting the lesser-lights for 2 or 3 years. I suppose plenty get traded now even if under contract

And there isn't an abundance of AFL standard footballers available anyway

Just now, jackaub said:

I'm reasonably sure that the whole contract is guaranteed

And the Soft Cap tax applies for every dollar over the threshold (up to $750k)

But I've also heard that the soft cap rises by $750k next year so the payout may not be that excessive

And I'm not calling for Goodwin's head but it's just not working out. Sometimes one has to be a pragmatist

Why was he extended in 23 after an extension in 22 which would have finished in 24???

But would be funny!

Because Roffey and Pert were both clueless as ‘leaders’ of our club

I'd get Simpson in a heart beat.

Dean Bailey was sacked after the catastrophic 186 point loss to Geelong.

This is similar for mine. Sunday was catastrophic.

If we played the 4 quarters as bad as we did in the final, Saints would've won by 208 pts. So I agree.

Yep. And look at our list on Sunday vs the list from 186. Sunday is inexcusable and the repercussions are that someone (or multiple people) have to be held accountable.

Not to mention that Geelong were a powerhouse side that ended up winning flag while the Saints are currently a bottom five side.

The whole board would need to approve this, though just didn’t make sense

Comparing this to 186 is chalk & cheese … the list now is far better & we were winning not getting flogged… but I agree it highlights we have issues from coaching to footy dept & there are issues within the playing group, they are not totally unified and or are over Goodwin just like majority of supported & members and why he should remain if only financial is a reflection of our poorly run club once again!

I reckon he would be a good get as a senior assistant to a new rookie coach.

The slip in standards and descent into mediocrity started under his watch at the Eagles

i would prefer Longmire for senior assistant role (if he's interested)

Fringe players? I don't see much talent there and there's about 6-8 in the Seniors who are VFL standard as well

But I agree that Goodwin has been too loyal to the (so-called) senior players ... but that doesn't give the players an out as they've decided to check out

The premiership went to their heads and it didn't help when the club (not Goodwin) decided to offer them long term juicy contracts

Chances are we're going to be stuck with a bunch

Weird. Better calculation would be if we played the last like we played the first THREE we would have won by...whatever.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
