The lack of support from the AFL and media fools regarding the Gus Brayshaw thuggery shook us to the core and this was followed by continual attack right through 2024. That wasn’t helped by Tracc’s injury and a lot of other negative activity around the club. No wonder members fled in their droves, it was hard enough for us rusted on members to continue on despite the constant criticism from inside and out. If we make 55,000 I will be pleasantly surprised.😢🥲

Ok yep so that’s 5 (Day, Scrimshaw, Barrass, Nash, McKenzie).

There’s no way Dear and Lewis play in the same side, with Gunston’s form and Chol doing the ruckwork. Lewis is never on the park and Dear’s a second year unknown quantity. I’ll give you 6 combined.

We still had 4 out and that’s not including AMW or McAdam who had strong pre-seasons but went down on the eve of the season.

IMO hardly a hanging offence.

Our non response to Gus turned me right off funding a membership and turned me off the AFL more generally

That has continued with nonsense like not scheduling games due in 6-7 weeks like the Melb GC game. How is anyone supposed to book flights etc . Nonsense

But the way Maynard got off and our absolute NON response put me right off

Emailed Roffey saying as much. No response. Not owed one obviously but I imagine I’m not alone

You won't get a response from anyone at the club other than the membership hotline crew.

Might be the same at most or all clubs but we are a closed shop and have been for years now.

Roffey and accountability never went hand in hand during her presidency, at least not when it was anything negative.

Goody staying or going is inconsequential as far as I'm concerned, in the sense that he is not going to stop the persecution mindset of the AFL.

I actually think the AFL want to take over the MCG holus bolus and make it their Mecca and their own show piece.

A lot of comments along the lines of “starting to see glimpses of the new game plan / how we want to play”. If it was 2023 or even 2024 I could cop that but it’s not. He’s 12 - 18 months too late and we’ve been well and truly passed by.

Glimpses .... reminds me of "with bay views " translating to .. if you climb on the roof with a ladder you can just make out the water between the trees if you squint.

I seriously think people think this game is harder and more complicated than it really is. We are not asking players to embark upon Mission Impossible like espionage excursions. It's footy.

That contested footy won us the flag in 21. Hardly delusional to think in would work in 22 and 23. And we finished top 4 both those years. The game has moved on now and we have to adapt, which we are attempting to do.

Beat me to it as I was typing a reply. We did seem to also somewhat pivot during 23; however, we lacked the cattle to move towards a less contested game-plan (and still largely do lack, IMO).

Our major deficiency with classy outside runners who actually have pace and can hit a target from multiple angles is what hurts us.

My take is completely different. Defence and contest are ALWAYS the key to winning flags. Or problem was not that we stuck to that plan, it was that we attempted to move from it.

As much as I’m a knocker of some our decisions, in no world do Oliver and Petracca not get signed up on long-term deals; it would’ve happened at any club in the AFL. The Viney extension was the one that wasn’t necessary, but that came later.

I think more central to our issue has been recruitment, although we’ve at least tried to correct that via the draft in 2022 - 2022.
