If this is true and there is a massive murmurings of an exodus of players...perhaps they are part of the problem? I get they can be frustrated i.e. Rivers having to play HB but was promised midfield minutes, I mean come on. Look at what Gus did - he sacrificed his midfield for the sake of the team. Trac is playing more forward for the team. Riv will get his shot, but right now McVee, AMW is out - Howes form is terrible and we dont have any other mid sized defenders.

There are too many individuals now that are being selfish and not thinking about the greater good. This is a lack of leadership and cohesion/unity of the club. It is dire, because it will take the whole club to work together in moving forward in the same direction. There is no other way out. Its where you get to learn about the grit and commitment of your playing list.

The review clearly didnt cut deep enough last year, but i can understand you cannot do a full leadership reset in one hit (new pres, ceo, gm of footy, coach and captain) - but we need them all done.

So pres & ceo come in this year. Smith and ???

Next will be a clean up of the footy dept, which will mean Richo and Goody gone - most likely at year end by the look of things.

Hopefully Gawn relinquishes his captaincy and can focus on his footy. I'm not terribly enthused with Lever as his replacement but there really isn't anybody else that i think can do the job.

Not thinking we're a destination club. This will shock some no doubt. In fact quite reverse as if even a qtr of the storied rumours have any substance then a handful are casting their gaze about. And to be honest who can really blame them.

15 or so players are Premiership players. That just screams to me how much we miss those other 6 or 7.

That said... this is 2025. '21 is now a fading memory and NO ONE is going to give you any credit for that in THIS year's contest. Nor should they. You line up and away you go . This year's combatants playing this year's 'game' and may the better side win. If you're lacking in either the players or stewardship you will struggle. If both are ineffective then you will be unceremoniously despatched.

We're 5 and zip. Somehow not sitting on the bottom. Who's responsible ?? Well, from my cheap seat, the players have to be somehow complicit as they're the only ones actually playing.

But playing at what exactly? Many experienced track watchers, many a seasoned supporter are seemingly unable to define a particular strategy.

Is it that those previously mentioned Premiership players have all woken up one morning victims of some alien abductions and now rendered incapable of coherent and conducive football ?? Possibly the least likely of occurrences. Have the newer younger additions somehow hindered the more experienced?? Not particularly likely I'd have thought.

What's left. It can only really be the instructions given to the players. And whose job is that ? I'm not thinking it's the line coaches. They are only responsible for the particular part of the overall gameplan/style that their briefs allow. They too a following instructions.

The Architect come Builder of any teams efforts is the Coach. If not why have one ?

Our Coach is not particularly successful currently. It's been a while between wins , indeed still waiting on one this year and was a while back in the last that we took the chocolates.

Those looking at patterns will note after two less than flattering finals campaigns there is but one essential trend. Simply losing, and losing more than we win and very seldom able to backup one win with a other.

Somehow we are to suddenly click ? The same players with same coaching to same instructions.... suddenly going to click ??

The only way this changes, is WITH change !!

The club is simply in denial otherwise and that , to me , indicates they are simply wrong ... or they too are the wrong ones.

Currently we've 22 odd players without any coherent idea of what to do and as many ( likely ) aiding them off field

If we were a business using this strategy we'd be broke and calling in receivers.

There's a saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

If that is true then so must its converse " if it is broken, fix it"

Fixing often entails removing what doesn't work( broke ) and replacing.

Good stuff. It makes me sick to think I know more than an AFL strategy group. But the day I saw four forwards standing like penguins together in a snow storm was that day. Imagine if we lined up with Kossie out wide on the flank. Fritta one out on the other or in a pocket. May or Oliver on their own in the goalsquare. Someone playing true CHF creating leads. We make defenders look good bc they are never o e out.

There may be something in that or there may not be.

Clarkos record was 122-65 with Yze as an assistant and is 97-116 without him.

The reality is Yze was an assistant at both clubs right when they were in the window, except the last two years at the Hawks in 2019-2020 (when they were 16-23)

If you haven't already done so good Demon folk I implore you to take the opportunity to read Demonland's report on the weekend's game .

Read it , read it twice and if you still think our mediocrity is not to be blamed on Coaching and Selection then so be it.

Wow that’s damming for goody.

Interesting to see that Caroline Wilson on her show just now was mooting Luke Beverage as a possible replacement for Goody. She seemed to be speculating a bit but her sources are also normally not too bad. Bevo is almost the opposite of Goody tactically, and quite wacky at times with the way he throws the magnets around, but he has a proven track record. I'm keen.

There's equally an argument that if Goodwin goes players who are close to him will be more inclined to leave. And it seems that a lot of the players are close to Goodwin.

Jordan Lewis backed this up a fair bit tonight on the couch.

Showed vision of how our centre clearance and dump kicks into f50 has come back in as a really bad habit.

He said he was there when Yze came on board and changed their clearance work to look for the right handball and outside runners to carry it to the arc before kicking or even shooting at goal.

You know, bang, bang, bang kinda stuff.

But it's disappeared

This is on the coaches first and foremost and then the onfield leadership.

I always hear this but I never feel it. Say what you will about Hinkley but when I watch Port I can tell Hinkley is a real players coach. His players love him and show it. Most of the times I see Goodwin interacting with players they just look bored.

maybe there is a fracture within the playing group between those that aren't happy with their current lot under Simon.

Let's call that side 'the Christians' (no inference to Salo intended)....

In addition to that, let's say the past culture at Demonland under some previous coach/es was player driven.

And it was mostly eradicated in the Roos years and Simon flew in on his coat tails and managed to keep things on track to break the drought.

However, for whatever reason, getting too close to too many players or just plain complacency from a few leaders or a coach or two, we've reverted again to the tail wagging the dog??

I friggen hope it isn't the latter or we are about to head into many more years of inobscurity and being irrelevant once more.
