Crows fans feel like they dodged a bullet as they need midfielders more than defenders. Glad he is staying with us.

not the ones i speak to; they saw petty as their #1 key defender going forward

they also think they need an a-grade mid more, tho, and that rankine should be it but question whether his body will ever be 'right' to do so

Still no formal announcement from the club?

Give them time, this internet thing is still new to some... :P

There is every chance the club wasn't ready to release it.

Morris is a known low-life, ambulance-chaser and has at various times released mfc info they didn't want in the public domain.  I'm guessing his courting clubs didn't know either.

HIs 'scoop' has robbed the club and Petty of some valuable positivity and PR.

Before people assume there is a leak within mfc, Morris could have his info from any number of sources.  Who knows where his type lurk. 🤮

Gun player and I'm rapt if this is true.

Good news. Now for 2025 onwards, send him back to defence where he excels.

Calling him a journalist is an insult to those that are.

I'm not surprised.  It is exactly what I expect from his type.

That doesn't mean I have to like it.  I don't!  Especially if it hurts my club.

I find everything about him repungant.🤮🤮🤮

Awesome. Allows us to concentrate on recruiting for other parts of the ground.

That's a bit harsh.

He speaks highly of you 😄.

On re-reading it is a bit harsh... just doesn't seem a nice human.

He's not near physically ready for drafting 😉

Yikes. You're telling me he's 198cm and has Petracca thighs?

Clearly some kind of defective mutant who should be avoided until late in the draft by all other clubs.

Leaked to Morris to try and distract from the Freo fiasco is my thinking

Maybe but I seriously doubt the leak came from the club.

If they wanted to distract from the loss they could have released it themselves.

Where I live (on the Surfcoast) it became a running joke a few years back. No malice meant. It's like saying 'hang on, you're having a go at him when he's only had nice things to say about you.'

Interesting that he would sign a new deal when not in great form and has a clear exit option. One might almost think he has faith in the club and coach to support him and develop him to his full potential. Or at the very least he feels the club and coach have faith in him.

Absolutely love this. Have no doubt that his foot issues destroying his preseason and confidence in his leap have caused most of his issues. I know most will want him returned to defence but I think he'll surprise a few and come on strongly as a forward yet. Go Petts!

Might make it as a forward with an injury free preseason!

Would just like to see him injury free for the next 3 years and will have a very good key position player over that time.

Great news he'll kick a ton for us one day.

Very much this. I know the majority want him returned to defence but I'm keeping the faith. I reckon he could be a 35+ goal KPF given a decent run with fitness & injury. Folks remember his big game against Richmond but there was more to his season than that. His improvement week on week when he started playing forward last year was impressive. Running & leading patterns, getting to contests, presenting as a target etc. Unfortunately each time he really got going he was struck down with injury.
I'll go to my grave believing we were a fit Harry Petty and / or Jake Melksham away from winning the whole bloody lot in 2023.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
