Long overdue for Sparrow. Has he played a decent game since the 2021 GF?

Been too far between Deelectable. In our preseason game against Carlton he kicked 3 goals and had 20 disposals. Wish that form had continued 😣

I would’ve like to have seen Brown rewarded for last weeks effort

It's exactly what we need more of in our team.

I thought Sparrow was ready to explode this year after his pre season performance against the Blues.

2-3 weeks at Casey might do him some good.

Brown has been shafted a few time already by Goodwin. Not exactly the type of experience a first year player should be having.

I reckon he's front of the cue to come back into the team when the chance arises.

24 tackles in a game is insane levels of brutality, which would lift team mates around him.

Hope Laurie cracks hard on the defensive end and spends some time at centre bounce. He has never really had a chance to play mid in the firsts, usually stuck in the HF graveyard shift. He is a great tackler and can be clean in traffic.

Yeah good luck with that, but if it happens???

A first year player should thank his lucky stars for any senior game time and put his head down like he is doing. He is a skinny kid. His time will come.

but feel free to continue to Goody shafting nonsense

I didn’t realise Taylor was coming back for them. The task would have been significantly easier without him and Cummings.

It actually feels like we’ve been on the rough end of the stick this year with opposition players returning. Carlton had McGovern and Martin return against us. West Coast were at full strength, Brisbane got back Ashcroft just to name a few instances.

I don’t follow these things that closely so I am welcome to be corrected but are we doing to Sparrow what we did to Jordan? To me he has a lot of AFL level attributes. However he doesn’t have a set role, rather he is on the wing, down back, in the centre bounces, tagging mids or small forwards, blah, blah. Have I got that wrong? I think Jordan had no specific, permanent role with us and went off to the Swans to get a specific role and blossom from there.

Not sure it is directly comparable to Jordon as he was a sub many times.  I think that Sparrow is given a run with role rather than a fixed role at half fwd or half back etc. He is also used to rotate through the mdfield when you look at the CBA's

But you might be right in that the lack of a fixed position is hindering his development. I am a fan of his but he has certainly been underperforming. I'd also be pretty sure that it would have been pointed out to him many times over the last 8-10 weeks and they have finally lost patience.

Exactly. It is really good player development to let him have a brief taste of top level football so he knows what it is like and what is required.

Bizarre comment. Windsor is a skinny kid but has done everything asked of him.

I would argue strongly that Brown is the same. After his game saving tackle (in 14 min of football) he was dropped. Not a great message.

And in general our use of the sub has been frankly appalling. Is it any wonder players like Woewodin cant get any continuity in their game? Ditto Jordon and Bedford, Laurie

Yet senior players like Salem are rushed straight back in to the side and underperforming players are given way too much grace.

Lack of selection integrity under Goodwin is absolutely a fair criticism

Apparently both May and Lever have pulled up sore and are in serious doubt/wont play??

Is that a nice way of dropping Lever without actually saying he's been dropped? I'd be more than happy for Tomlinson to come in for him.

May missing, on the other hand, would be a big loss given he matches up well against Hogan.

Windsor is a gun. Quick skilled high draft pick. unfair comparison on young Brown. Windsor has been amazing and deserved every game, fantastic that the club backed him from day 1

Brown has had good and average games at Casey and had a taste of senior footy. He needs consistency.

Calling it appalling is laughable. Every team has players 23-27 in their squad. They come in and if they perform like Billings did as Sub, they stay in

Re the actual game (radical I know) can anyone give a preview of how the Giants will play and what we will do to try and counter that?

What are the likely match ups?

They're not a side I have watched

A player is repeatedly used as a sub and under Goodwin is lucky to get 10min of game time. "If they come in and perform" - what in the 10 min game time they get? C'mon.

Bedford was sub 8 times one year, Jordon was sub on at least 6 occasions off the top of my head. Generally that had half a quarter game time at best.

So they don't play seniors, they don't play at Casey. It is appalling

Tommo is not named as an emergency so that can't happen

Billings got 18 touches on as sub

And Jordon played 65 games in 3 years

just appalling

no wonder he left

Kolt & Salem out injured

Sparrow dropped.  Yes had to happen. Had to happen. He has been very poor.

Lever stays in. Just !!! He was horrible last week.

Gawn in 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Woey jnr in 👏👏👏

Laurie in ??????? Why ??! Had a holiday in WA last week !! Kynan Brown absolutely busted himself last week without much support.  24 tackles.  Has to be patient but hard ti explain why he’s not in !!

I have a soft spot for Sparrow but he had to be demoted.

Hopefully Woey can be given a fair run.

I also have a soft spot for Tommy. Had all the attributes and plays almost too selflessly at times. Actually ive had a soft spot for anyone in #32 since Cam Bruce

Better than Good-average players in exceptional teams are always a risk to move on for more opportunity. In a competition with a Salary Cap is just part of the system. People thinking that Bedford, Harmes, Jordan and co left due to Goodys selection policies is just a baffling. Other teams without the number of absolute guns we have can offer more money, with a kicker of more opportunities.  It's that simple

So, I was under embargo from sharing this but I have a source at the club who informed me that at the monday training session Gawn was asked by his teammates about his injury and replied, "Look to my coming at first light on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the east."

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
