PREGAME: Rd 20 vs GWS

Recommended Posts

The Demons return to the MCG in Round 20 to take on the GWS Giants and will be hoping the injured Captain Max Gawn is fit to return to his role in the ruck as their season is slipping away. Who comes in and who comes out?

After 24 tackles, 27 disposals, 11 clearances and a goal for Casey on the weekend do we reward K. BROWN with a game against the giants?

Those sorta numbers force him into the team, don’t they??

This is it lose and our season is over. Win and we are back in with a shot. Let's hope Gawn makes a massive difference because we were putrid today. We are Freo's [censored]. In Gawn and K.Brown out Tholstrup, Billings

Thought Tholstrup being subbed out was harsh, took the game on. Brings energy.

I liked that he was so upset about it too. Wouldn’t want to see him dropped.

Billings was ok. But doesn’t add enough intensity.

Agree with your INs. I’d like to see Howes back too.

OUT. Salem (inj?) Billings and someone else ??

Surely it's about time to give Jeffo a shot for the last run of games home?

No change means more of the same, which clearly isn't our future hope

Who are you dropping out of JVR, Petty and Turner to bring him in, bearing in mind Gawn is coming back too?

Surely our focus has to be on the mids after what we just dished up? Given what I’m reading here and seeing on the stat sheet, Salem, Sparrow, Kolt and AMW would all be up for debate?

The season is too close for Goody to be too adventurous, I imagine.

The team would benefit most from:

Out: Bowey, Billings, Sparrow,

In: Howes, Gawn, K.Brown

With Tholstrup moving to sub after a very poor game. A reprieve for Tholstrup and Bowey to sub if Salem is injured.

I expect we'll go for:

Out: Billings, AMW/Salem*

In: Gawn, K.Brown

Jefferson didn't do enough at Casey on the weekend. He's tracking better than before, but he needs to put up numbers consistently. Miserable rainy day though, in fairness.

We were always going to have bad days with the squad as it is. There's not a single player in the reserves who will come in and 'fix' us. No use throwing the baby out with the bath water. Plenty to criticise Goodwin about, but there's been plenty of change this season.

Yes, I watched the second half of the vfl game. The conditions didn't suit Jefferson at all, the ground was barely playable, but he's had a decent previous month.

I don't believe selecting him will fix us, nor that blooding him is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Of course, we don't know the inner workings of selection committee, but he must be close. In fact someone on here quoted Choco as saying he's close. Picket Fence spoke with Jeffo at the G a couple of weeks ago and his spirits were very high.

There's 5 games to go before finals. Our chances of playing beyond that are borderline at best. Top 4 is now a pipedream.

Jefferson's time is soon, I hope they give him a go.

Maybe drop Fritch.

If Jefferson can bring energy and a goal or even two… why not

Teams are starting to expose Boweys lack of height in the backs, but against GWS this shouldnt be a problen - so he gets a reprieve. What GWS had is speed and in form Hogan.  Salem should play in the midfield or be given a rest. We have to tag Tom Green (note they ate not a high inside 50 team, so restricting Green is a must).

On a brighter side, they wouldn't have a clue who Bedford should go and tag!!!!!

    MORE FIERCE by Meggs

We’re back!  Winning the last three matches has recaptured our Demon spirit and, with superstar players returning from rehab, our Season 2024 dreams are not over yet.   So come along 5.05 pm Saturday afternoon to watch this Round 9 ladder-defining match at the Field of Dreams. Expect the Tigers to be fierce, but surely the Demons will be more fierce. Playing conditions are expected to be a dry 15 degrees with a typically gusty Cranbourne wind. The media opprobrium of the ill-consi

    IN FRONT by Meggs

In this must-win clash between Melbourne 11th on the ladder and St Kilda 8th, it was the Demons who were in front all day to win in a hard-fought Round 8 clash to make it three in a row to keep theit slim finals chances alive. A good crowd of enthusiastic footy families for week 2 of Pride Round had gathered.  The full pews in the well-appointed RSEA Park grandstand provided excellent viewing.   The Saints won the toss and elected to kick to the southern end favoured by a strong 2-3 g

    THE TRADING CHRONICLES 02

Part 2: Watching grass grow by Whispering Jack Critics of test cricket (and I’m not one of them) will often claim the sport is excruciatingly boring: that following a five day match is much like watching grass grow. However, the longest form of that game has nothing on the first week of the AFL trade period when it comes to inducing sleep among those in the football public who follows this process in its somnolent moments. The week gone by has been no exception. Only two player trades

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Meggs

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised
