Not sure if it's been said already but once a club shops a player around, then the club has to expect the player to look for greener pastures

Just put yourself in Oliver's shoes ... what would you do if there was an opportunity elsewhere?

"The media are full of [censored]" could refer to anything. He could be talking about his reported off-field indiscretions, missed appointments, meetings with Geelong officials and players, etc. Why didn't he just come out and say which media reports were incorrect?

We all know the reason why he didn't.

You need to listen to the podcast.  In it he talks about what he's looking forward to in 2025, ie running around with his Melbourne teammates, he talks about what he loves about the Melbourne culture, etc.  You should listen to it.

well done, both of you agree he hasn't been mistreated :)

But the media are intimating that we have treated him poorly

But I can't see any evidence of mistreatment

What we can all see is the player going rogue ... that is indisputable

We had a Ferrari; it’s since been treated like a lawnmower.

The trouble with our Ferrari is that it keeps blowing its gaskets.

We need to get its engine running smoothly again.

I don’t disagree mate, but people holding onto the idea that the current Oliver is worth what he was 12 months ago on the market is farcical.

This is my point about the media BS.

I'll try my very best not to contribute any more then.

Oh, darn it!  I just did!

That really is a ridiculous quote. It looks like it’s made up to me. You could also say that a lot of people believe in aliens - doesn’t necessarily make it true.

You haven't read enough posts here then.

Hit me up if you want me to spread a rumour that Clarry also has OCD, I'll add it to the one about Lloydy coaching us next year 👍

We at Demonland don't have a problem with discussion proceeding on this subject but have to remind posters once again that we have a code of conduct and personal abuse to other posters will not be tolerated.

In that regard, any further instances of personal abuse of posters on this thread will result in a minimum of seven days suspension from the site.

Thank you.

I think it depends how much Oliver blames his behaviour on the club shopping him around last year. If he blames himself, then he could decide to work hard and regain respect

But none of us really know what happened so who knows

Sounds like a metaphor to me, I.e. he's checked out and doesn't want to come back.

Hahahahahah! Pulled me up on what? I've already forgotten what you even said, that's how irrelevant it was to me

What a hero... lunchbox variety!

But you also don’t trade him out for nothing but a hand shake either, his value is rock bottom right now, even if we go through this again next year we could still get the same deal then and most likely much better if he is actually committed to getting his body right

Just don't take the media seriously then.  Ignore them if it's going to bother you

You'll never beat them

But there are some truths and lies and embellishment coming from the media

How do you sort that out?  A nose for BS?  That can help but it's tricky

Take the news that Clarrie might take a pay cut ... my immediate thought was that if he definitely wants out, then that could be true

But who wants to give up hundreds of 1000's per season?

Then there's Joe Daniher who has just turned his back on $1Million

So you never know

Once again, I don’t overly disagree with this. Of course there’s a balance, but it also has to consider what a willing club would pay towards his contract (either in full, or as a percentage), as well as just how desperate are the MFC to get Oliver out.

It’s unfortunately not a clear cut scenario, with a multitude of issues and concerns at play.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
