I think this is great for the lad but geez we're going into the back end of the season with a very young and inexperienced side.

I think this is definitely the way to go.

Returning to "wily" plus-28 second-clubbers who at their best offer middling performance might be "best practice" when you're chugging along nicely, and clearly going to make the top 6, if not 4. We are nowhere near that.

Sorry to be pessimistic, but the system at the moment is so broken, I can't see us winning more than we lose in the final nine games no matter who we put on the park.

Congratulations to hear from so many new and varied posters. Great to have so many DOP's

Its good to see the coaches have finally realised its time to blood the youngsters, if you can't contend blood them.

They might actually surprise you.

Congrats to AMW, well deserved.

👏👏👏

I am a fan of AMW, as he plays in the VFL with AFL level intensity and pace. The big question mark on his game is his disposal and decision making, which is still developing.

It will be interesting to see who he replaces in the side given one of Howes, Bowey or Salem looks most likely to be omitted as a result (or K Brown gets dropped).

Liked the video.

I’m oddly pretty excited about this Friday. AMW has a lot of traits that translate to AFL. Haven’t seen him live for a while though so won’t pretend to know how he is really going.

I remember watching him at training during his 1st season participating in some tackling drills and thinking he was already one of the better tacklers at the club.

He also has speed. 🤟🏼

Just so excited to see the new kids go at it.  Not even that fussed if we get the W, just really keen now to see the new talent coming through and starting to build.

I see a very similar comparison physically and attitudinally to another indigenous player who was well loved by all Dees’ supporters, and who ironically also wore #45, Mathew Whelan .

i hope Andy’s career is as impressive as Matty’s

Matty is still very involved with the club. In particular, the young blokes. He comes to training and has a great rapport with them. He actually chose to go to Fritta’s house when Fritta was drafted to personally welcome him to the MFC. He’s a great guy.

Love this vid! I especially love how he doesn’t hold back his excitement at the very end of the interview. This enthusiasm and positivity is very welcome. ❤️💙

I know and I like it. Let's be honest with ourselves that we would not be challenging the top end due to a lot of factors so why not make something of the backend. Can't keep going to the BBB, Schache, Billings well, otherwise we'll lose another Bedford or Jordan.

Totally agree inanunda I thought the same thing myself, how handy would JJ and Toby be at the moment. The coaches have certainly twigged how to get them keen and then reward them.

We've been relatively young and inexperienced all season. People are only just starting to notice.

All the following have been regulars except Tholstrup, Brown and I suppose Turner
Tholstrup (18)
Windsor (19)
Brown (19)
McVee (20)
Bowey (21)
Howes (21)
JVR (21)
Turner (22)
Rivers (22)
Pickett (23 - as of a couple of weeks ago)

Then we have AMW who is 20, Woewodin (21) & Laurie (22).

Chandler, Petty & Spargo are also only 24.

It's a point I made before the season started ie how young our list is and how many best 22 are 22 and under.

The idea we are suddenly 'playing the kids' because we have conceded the year and are looking toward 2025 is ridiculous.

Yes the kolt ans brown came in. But apart from tracc who came out?

Laurie, who is 22.

Yeah true, showing any opposition to nicknames in Australia will only lead to worse nicknames.

Looks good laid out like that. Encouraging 😊

It would be a little better, though, with a 'Twenty-teens' feel about it, if there was an obvious Petracca and Oliver, some Jackson height and, among the young Casey tall timber, a Gawn slow burner in it.

Too much to wish for? Well, all at once, at least?

The only problem with this revelation is that the older brigade : Gawn, Viney, Langdon ,Lever, Petracca , Oliver and May are arguably our best and most important, and cannot be usurped by any of the younger brigade.

Yeah, I noticed Steven May referred to him as 'Andy Moniz' in his announcement.

I also noted in his 'phone home' vid that his Dad is 'Mick Wakefield', so I presume his Mum provides the (Portuguese) 'Moniz'? I did note, too, that his Mum will be in (formerly 'Portuguese') Timor for his debut (🙁) But that'll be another nation now following the Dees! (🙂)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
