Unpopular opinion but if a loss to North means we change the way we play then I want a loss. I watched the last 1/4 or so of Pies v North last week. Pies had Hill one out in the goal square and kicked it low and direct to him. Hill is a difficult match up, so is Fritsch but how we use him differently to how the Pies would. Also if the Pies are deep in the pocket they centre the ball, hardly groundbreaking stuff. We’re getting smashed everywhere currently but it’s alright because we finished top 4 the last 3 years. If a loss means that whatever is going on at the club brings about the changes needed then I want a loss. The last 4 weeks has been unacceptable but apparently we’re allowed to use injuries as an excuse. We’re becoming hard to watch, I’d rather lose trying to play a fast exciting brand of footy that allows us to kick a winning score than continue doing what we currently are.

It will either be a 60+ point win, or an unconvincing 15 point win. But it will be a win.

Ideally, kick 100+ points and keep them to a low score, so we can get a percentage boost.

Clayton and Koz will dominate. JVR will kick 5. Kolt and K Brown will give us a much needed energy boost. May will be May again. Max will be in beast mode.

Our real challenges come later in the year, but not tonight.

Where did you get your high speed NBN from? Oh that's right you said you were in Singapore!

Anyone close to the club spoken to Melksham lately? 4 weeks ago he be thinking we’d be sitting nicely inside the top 4 and he would be our wildcard going into finals.

Make some interesting observations and points. We are not Collingwood, this seemingly is Schadenfreudian , being both a good and bad thing.

I want to see us attempt a good hard running game of football.  Bit over this handball imitation.

You know...once again...but with meaning Melbourne

Apparently he's a little miffed with our form but believes that if we can hold on tonight, snatch a win next week and then roll WC at the G we'll be right back in it at 10 - 6. He'll then return, Trac will be back for the GF and we'll finally win that second flag. He's an upbeat and confident fella. You better check with WCW ito see if any of this is even remotely true.

Not a word of truth to be seen.

Yesterday he said “two weeks, for sure” meaning he’ll be good to go in two weeks. I hadn’t asked him how long, I had just said “I hope to see you out on the park soon.” When he said two weeks for sure I said, “Is that what they’ve told you?” He said, “Yep!” Then he winked and smiled and I really don’t remember anything after that. 😁 Nah seriously, I believe the two weeks part because he trained so hard yesterday.

Glad I put some money on North at the start of the week. I’m happy to lose that money if we win, but if we lose it’ll be at least some consolation.

This is me every single week and has been for the past seven or so years. Hot tip: it doesn’t always work. No amount of $ can make up for a loss. 😢

Oh and don’t forget: a new head coach, new line coaches, a new president, a new CEO, new medicos, new water carriers, a new boot-studder, but NOT a new runner coz we’ve already got one waiting in the wings 😜

I was about to add something to this list - there are many gaps - but such a fulfilment, as you state - may well augment the additional gaps previously considered - appropriate changes (as you suggest) would bring many implementation benefits.

Absolutely will tell us about the teams mindset.

The maths are now simple with lions winning.

Dee's win by 5 poi T's or more we go to 7th. 8th the worst finish.

Then hanging on will be the issue to finals

Based on the recent form of both teams, I'm not gonna be surprised if north run away with it, they scored with ease against the pies and without general rick down back and an underperforming midfield, I could see them being able to score quite efficiently against us.

Really hope that won't happen but an illustrious man once said, "hope for the best, prepare for the worst."

Am I the only one who thinks there is something wrong at Melbourne. Don't think tonites game will shine any light on that but next week ?

Win tonight and should be 6th or 7th. North will find the MCG a bit different to the elements free Marvel.

I don't understand why Petty still get a game let alone others. Are we tanking now? Sestan couldn't get a game because the so called coaches reckon he needs to achieve certain things (criteria) other say he hasn't got the tank. We continue to selected players who have a tank and run around like headless chooks. Fullarton doesn't get a game because he is not up to it, this not my opinion. He didn't play for the first two games as he was an emergency, probably not going to play for the same reason. He has missed out on game time from byes. What do we expect from him.

Petty is hurting us playing in the AFL team, he shows no improvement and shouldn't get a game.  Whoever is persisting with him is part of the reason we have no spark right now he just needs time elsewhere to find himself, but not in the main team where we need players who are ready or at least hungry.  I want him to do well, but he hasn't shown much that warrants him still getting a game.

There is something very wrong at Melbourne, no doubt, no idea what but it definitely is there.

Not alone..   something very squirelly at MFC.  But possibly at many clubs. Just...i'm not fussed about them ;)

if we don't win today then it's very clear there is something wrong. we should win and win comfortably.  A team with 14 premiership players shouldn't be playing as it is.

The only conceivable reason is that Goody believes in his ability and thinks him and Roo just need more time playing together.

North’s weakness is their defence. We’ve played probably two of the best back 6 teams in the league back to back in Freo and the Pies. Collingwood had a lot out 2 weeks ago against us, but their back 6 was their flag back 6 and are bloody good. We really should be kicking 15 goals on North’s defence tonight.

If we within 50 points at half time we should easily have them by the final siren…

North cannot play out a full game.

I wouldn’t be so sure - We are classics at giving up big leads

Our first halves have been deplorable this year whereby we average about 32 points.

If we’ve got 45-50 on the board at half time then we should get the job done, as North struggle to play 4 quarters and make horrendous errors.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
