Matthew Kennedy would be a good get for the club but I suspect the Blues will want us to pay too high a price.

As @Nascent says, they can't tell him to explore his options and then demand a particularly high price.

Where is Owies going? He'd be handy.

They are clearing space for Houston I suspect. Kennedy won’t be too expensive.

Kennedy and Owies would both be worthwhile options if not too expensive but I wouldn’t touch Lewis Young - not a clean ball handler.

We might also be well advised to move on a couple of players who are likely to be list cloggers to make way for them.

Wouldn’t mind Owies. He doesn’t do a whole heap, but he bobs up every now and then and also stays put in the forward line.

Kennedy is slow and a poor kick, but at least has some flexibility to play forward.

Another one for the ‘if no one else is better’ category but not a prime target.

Brew has got some interest at AFL level. There is a level of resilience and dedication similar to Mannagh in why clubs love him.

His work rate is elite and obviously his consistency at VFL level is why I think clubs see similar to Mannagh.

And he takes home the Liston. Great stuff.

Carlton folk suggest Owies is a small forward that plays like a lead up forward - Basically a smaller version of Fritta. Doesn’t apply any pressure defensively or work well at the feet of their talls.

I’d look at Kennedy for midfield depths for sure

Carlton are obviously wanting to clear the decks for a run at Houston. Kennedy wont be on big money but is in contract. He fills our need and style and provides another mature inside bull whilst we see where Clarry and Trac are at. Has also shown quality pinch hitting forward so could play alternate to Trac (or the role subject to how long his return). If they want him out the key is getting him to request us and then we should get him for cheap (pick 45 or 50 could get it done).

Could he fill ANB’s role?

NO

If he's been told to go elsewhere and not part of their best 22 plans then they surely can't expect a 2nd round pick, no matter how late it is.

Bulldogs 3rd at pick 50 should do if we were interested.

Hes been told his not going to be a starting inside mid, but Carl see him only playing the half fwd role that he played every game this year as. He wants to play inside mid.

Feel like you’ve just described our entire incumbent forward line. He’d fit right in!

Kicked 16-10 when drifting forward. Some of those points are snaps, so not a bad kick for goal.

Absolute yes for Kennedy. As far as ANB replacement suggestions go this has been the best one so far.

Not perfect but work rate is right up there.

I must be on an island with Lewis Young. I thought he was a good solid defender and at his age I would be snapping him up if cheap.

I must be looking at him all wrong as I'm shocked he is being traded in the first place.

Keep an eye out for Riley Bice and Dom Brew from Werribee.

Thought you meant Bailey Rice for a sec…but he’s still punting for Charlotte.

Fair point, but still maintain that he won't command high compensation given he's a player in the back half of his career and been given permission to chase better opportunities (inside mid or otherwise) next year.

Had a really good run of games at the start of this or last season (they all blend together to me these days). Outside that brief period, he's looked Oscar McDonald-esque to me. It's not a very nice thing to say but the word "hapless" comes to mind.

Kennedy is treacle slow. As the game gets faster, spread and speed rule. Teams can carry some one paced players but not many, there is no position to hide them. Looking out our midfield mix we need more speed than less.

If the Blues don't see him as a centre bounce mid maybe he is not a centre bounce mid. If his endurance is elite then maybe he could lay a Nibbler type role but its not clear that it is.

If we want to persist with both Turner and Petty inside F50 and Tomlinson goes Young might be worthy of a list spot. I think hapless is a stretch tbh and he can kick off both sides pretty well which is rare for a KPD.

If Jed Adams was showing more I’d agree he may not be worth pursuing but atm if May or Lever gets injured which they seem prone to do he might be a good back up

He might be worth a spot, but I'd rather treat TMac as the back up or the guy who starts 2025 in the best 23 and look to push someone like a Riak Andrew through there by the end of the year.

The Age has named us & Essendon as potentially being interested in Owies

Can cross a line through Angwin, re-signed for two years recently.

Kennedy def fits the bill keys hope we go after him!

Wade Derkson — as reported by afl.com.au & above is someone we have interest in and his hands are allegedly super-strong so watch that space could be a nice little get for not much & giants signed him up so they def saw something on him

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
